Which Character build will you have

S 4
P 5
E 4
C 4
I 5
A 3
L 3

I like to base my characters off of myself. I am not an agile person. I am not a particularly lucky person. I'm about average strength, endurance and charisma. High perception and intelligence.
Probably use an energy weapon and medium weight armor. Probably rely on a follower that is strong where I am not. Like Watson to my Sherlock.

HighI intellegence, energy weapons. Reasonable luck, agility, and perception. A Science Hero if you would.

Still I want to see the full tree before I set a built in stone.

With my second playthrough, I think I'm just going to wait and see what weapons and items are available and then make a build around that. I don't really care for an unarmed or melee build, but if I see something that's really cool I might try out that kind of build.

I was thinking about maxing out Charisma, but C9 and C10 look like they were made for pacifist playthroughs and I don't want to bypass that much combat. C8 looks like it's for people who want to rely heavily on companions and with the Robotics perk I don't know if I'm going to have a robot with me all the time or not. C7 looks like lonewanderer and I will always have some sort of companion with me. I think C6 is party boy and I don't care for drinking in the game. C5 is the one that really interests me because it gives you a bunch of stuff for your settlement.

I'm not sure what benefit you get for having a high attribute then not taking most of the perks for that SPECIAL. I know you can be a high level Local Leader or a high level Robotics guy.

Valid points being made. I think you've changed my mind on potentially wasting points on the high-cha. I was just hoping a Charisma of 10 would lead to some peculiar and over-powered conversation options. I absolutely don't want companions, I have never used them and will never use them, I just don't enjoy something following me all day long so I guess some of the perks don't interest me. So C5 at least, and a high Int. I think I'll up E/A. I'm considering a balanced build too. All 4, to get a general character.

1st Playthrough Jack Of Trades, possible MOAT depending on how much time I put into it.

Future playthroughs probably a thief type character, stealth assassin Shooter, Energy Weapon Specialist and melee.

High Intelligence, high Perception. A mechanic and a sniper. That's my bag.

I wouldn't necessarily say it would be a waste. It's just that high intelligence and high charisma don't necessarily compliment each other. Science!, Gun Nut!, Nerd Rage!, Robotics, and I9 are all combat related. If you take C10 and C9 you will skip past most combat scenarios.

No need for Robotics, C8, attack dog, or animal friend if you don't like companions. I personally would like a high intelligence build for the roleplaying experience, but I know that a more combat oriented character would probably be a lot stronger. Especially for a lonewolf.

Which is why I said "potentially".

I don't necessarily want both C and I for any reason except roleplay ones anyway, so I suppose I'll think more about these shooting scenarios before the game releases. Theres now so many options that look tempting, including the Lone Wanderer perk for the bonus in fighting. I think first playthrough, all-gun battles will be fought, but second, high-cha to try and talk instead of shoot.

1 STR

4 PER - to get Intel (unlock safes)

5 END - for Submariner. Hoping to find some underwater content.

6 CHA - but might drop it to 5

4 INT - for Hacking

1 AGI

7 LUK - for better criticals

Primary focus Shotguns and Medium/Heavy armor.

ya maybe wanna bump Agi to 2, so you can put points into commando, since it will most likely be your go to perk for rifle accuracy, both in and out of VATS

My build is going to be all damage. I am naturally a tank/damage player in all the games i play so i am going to build on my weapons stats along with stamina and intelligence

Standard build usually ends up having high INT and LCK, with better-than-average AGL. Everything else is average except CHA, which is dumped. I generally prefer Light or Medium armor and Guns. Standard build is 5651878 in New Vegas, but it seems we're going to have fewer points to distribute at the start of the game (though that could just be something they did for the E3 demo to save time; I've heard nothing one way or the other on that), so I'm unsure how to translate that to the lower starting SPECIAL we'll apparently be working with.

My favorite weapons for New Vegas (my favorite Fallout), is the Sequoia, the Gauss rifle and a sword/cleaver/machete, with some explosives as well. Obviously, this is late game, and in NV, that means a lot of skill points.

For 4, I'm thinking that I want to adopt that playstyle: Prepare for a fight with some traps put out, engage at distance if possible. There will ofc be a lot of close quarters combat as well, and I'd love a hard hitting revolver for that job. In the trailer, the energy snipers was the weapons that got me the most hyped, so I guess energy weapons will need science to be fully utilized, meaning intelligence will be important. That should probably also give access to some fun explosives, so I'm already 2/4. Perhaps strength for melee, but I think I'd prefer survivability over hittingpower in melee range, so endurance is perhaps my 2nd focus. Then, for agility and luck for more VATS and higher overall ranged hitting power, however I do like charisma.

This is based on my most resent visit to New Vegas, which is some time ago. I suspect there will be a bigger overhaul of the SPECIALs and what they do, so selecting these points first time round is going to take some time. Knowing myself, I will probably make another character 20-30hrs in anyway, and by that time I will know more of what I wanted from the start.

Summed up: An intelligent and charismatic wastelander that can endure the harsh nature that is post-apocalyptic US. Perhaps switch endurance for agility, because why take the hits when you can get away? Plus, that results in the conspiratorical "CIA" build! :P

I've recently changed my mind and think that I'll go for 4 in all SPECIAL stats. The reasoning behind this is that my character comes out of the vault as an ordinary guy who does not have any significant training in any of the skills but has a solid foundation in all of them. As I progress, however, the character will evolve and specialise (probably in perception for sniping + int for hacking). This will also let me experiment with many different play styles initially (before I waste too many perk points) to see which I enjoy the most.

To start I think I'm going to run with a sneaky/pistol build built on lucky shots.....but I have been known to just go off spec and run with a chaos theory build (i.e. just mash some buttons and deal with the fallout....lol.....*eh hem*..sorry).

you all realize stealth /sneaking is no longer a skill. its a perk you add points into now under the agility tab. so for all you im gonna be a thief/ assassin's out there keep that in mind.

Exactly deltadeath. like in previous games lockpick was a skil, you didnt have to invest in it because it was personal skil of the player. And i hate it not be able to not get in to that "chest" or not be able to lockpick a locked door. And stealth is realy important for me personal, sneaking up to someone has the surprise element and does crit damage etc. But thats a personal choice ;)

Planning to go with a charismatic, agile, smooth-talking gunslinger (primarily a handgun user) build, who, loves caps, women, and alcohol. Some of my perk selections (mostly in the POSSIBLE perk list), are thought about from an RP standpoint; I tried to balance RP and with meta-gaming a fun and effective character.

Charismatic Gunslinger Build:

S – 1 + 1 (bobble head) = 2

P – 3 + 1 (bobble head) = 4

E – 1 + 1 (bobble head) = 2

C – 6 + 1 (bobble head) = 7

I – 3 + 1 (bobble head) = 4

A – 8 + 1 (bobble head) = 9

L – 6 + 1 (bobble head) = 7

Desired Perks:

Awareness – 1

Toughness – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Cap Collector – 1, 2, 3

Lady Killer – 1, 2, 3

Local Leader – 1, 2

Medic – 1, 2, 3, 4

Gun Nut – 1, 2, 3, 4

Gunslinger – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Sneak – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Action Boy – 1, 2

Ninja – 1, 2, 3

Fortune Finder – 1, 2, 3, 4

Better Criticals – 1, 2, 3

Critical Banker – 1, 2, 3

Possible Perks:

Locksmith – 1, 2, 3, 4

Lead Belly – 1, 2, 3

Attack Dog – 1, 2, 3

Party Boy – 1, 2, 3

Mister Sandman – 1, 2, 3

Moving Target – 1, 2, 3

Scrounger – 1, 2, 3, 4

Bloody Mess – 1, 2, 3, 4

I studied the perk chart quite a bit, so this will be my first character. During game play, I might want to raise my luck and strength over time. I want the better crits under luck and maybe start crafting armor.

But for now, I want to focus on building settlements and getting merchants to sell good gear. :)

S: 1

P: 4 (Lockpick)

E: 4 (Chem resistance, Lifegiver)

C: 9 (Local Leader, Animal Friend, Wasteland Whisperer)

I: 5 (Hacker)

A: 3 (Sneak)

L: 2

Embracing the hinted military background, agile and tough guy, first perk point goes into bumping perception to 4, after that its all about getting new and improving existing perks.

Unarmed weapons - maxed unarmed skill and perks so Spiked Knuckles do devastating damage at one hit every second. it also makes their head explode if you get a good kill hit. (late in game you can use sonic fist etc which does 1 kill per hit basically)

Energy weapons secondary - for fighting groups of tough enemies or deathclaws

Explosives - who doesn't keep a few mines/ grenades to use in a tough fight during VATS

High Agility, Endurance, Strength so I can run in and around the enemy like a bumble bee dodging their attacks while destroying them with unarmed.

Increase unarmed, energy weapons, lockpick, science, maybe survival skill/medicine for hardcoe mode.

Character Name: "Rocky"
