Which Companion do You Like Most?

Post » Mon Nov 18, 2013 12:56 am

I haven't been playing Skyrim long, just a few weeks, so of course my current companion is Lydia. I don't care for her, and my sister told me that apparently nobody much likes her as a companion. I know my sister had Marcurio as a companion for a long time and she loves him, but just recently picked up Mjoll, whom she loves even more.

I have the choice to get Marcurio right now, but for some reason, I can't get Mjoll to become my companion, and she hasn't asked me to do any quests for her so I'm unsure of what to do.

Should I drop Lydia and get Marcurio for now? Are there any better companions?

To get Mjoll as a follower you need to do a quest for her. I think you need to be level 20 to start it. I hate her.

Marcurio is a decent mage but annoying and Lydia is just a slave.

My favourite follower is Frea.

You'll encounter her during the MQ of the Dragonborn DLC.

You need to be level 14 before Mjoll's quest activates.

As for Marcurio, someone called Aurora Winter will be along shortly to give all the info you need on him.

And welcome to the forums :goodjob:!

Welcome to the forums, OP!

I don't tend to use followers, as they aren't very conducive to stealthing it up. That said, I am quite fond of Serana from Dawnguard, though I doubt I would have made use of her had she not been someone I was required to have with me from time to time.

Serana's my favorite. I just think that of the followers I've used (which isn't anywhere near all of them, to be fair), she's the one who is most useful and most interesting. But besides her, I'm currently working with a Khajiit named Kharjo and I think he's decent. Just wish he would put his bow down and fight with his axe a little more often.

I always use Serana if I have a follower, as soon as she becomes available.

J'zargo from the College of Winterhold is, excluding DLC, the strongest companion in the game - or, at least, I believe so.

That's right, I think he's the only follower without a level cap.

I'm here! :wavey:

Marc is sarcastic, snarky, hilarious, kicks ASS, and looks gorgeous doing it. :D

Just make sure to give him gear with fortify health/magicka, and hand him a magicka potion and some Elsweyr Fondue every now and then. He uses magic only and is good at sneaking.

If you want a melée/tank follower, I recommend Erik (in Rorikstead, you need to do a short quest for him first), Vorstag (mercenary at the Silver-Blood Inn in Markarth) or Jenassa (mercenary at the Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun). Both Jenassa and Vorstag likes to use bows too, and Jenassa is quite good at sneaking.

Or take the boat to Raven Rock and hire Teldryn Sero. He's awesome!

But stay away from J'zargo. He might level all the way with the player, but he relies on the extremely weak spell Sparks in battle...

I believe his name is olag, or similar, an orc from the stronghold near riften. He's just basically a normal orc dude. I rp a simpleton tribal savage orc and his follower at the very least should be an orc because my orc wouldn't trust anyone else, he also lacks the gro- suffix so I can rp he's from the same area.

If mods (or rather, console commands) count, then Faralda.

If we go only by vanilla, then Serana.

He will level up with you, however he is probably one of the worst followers in the game. Except for flying dragons and stuff way out of range he's likely to miss anyway he will still primary use sparks and unarmed attacks, yep SPARKS, a Novice level Spell. He can be in Daedric Armour with an enchanted Daedric sword and he will still prefer to use sparks/unarmed. "Have you mastered the Expert Level Destruction spells yet?", what a surprise, another lying Khajiit...

Aranea and Brelyna are much better mages because they use summons and have great DPS when duel wielding destruction staves. Same with Marcurio.

J'zargo serves one purpose, an offering for Lord Boethiah.

Problem is Orc followers only level up to 30 I believe so they become weak towards the end of the game.

You can level a follower closer to your level by Wabbajacking them. For instance, you Wabbajack them into a chicken. You just wait for them to turn back into a person and when that happens it levels them closer to you.

Faralda is an amazing follower, shame they took someone so skilled in destruction and relegated her to trainer/merchant. She's also a good mage wife accessible by CC, you would think with the 900 lowlife peasant Nords Bethesda put up for marriage they could have actually had that damn quest where you could marry Faralda or Nirya in the vanilla game.

Actually, the best 'followers' in the game are either twin Dremora Lords or Malkoran/Orchendor dead thralls.

Pretty sure that doesn't allow them to go past their level caps though.

Didn't know this, but believe you because he seems to die very easily.

Practicality and usefulness would always play a very small role in me deciding which I like most.
