Which console should I get it for?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:26 am

I think the differences will be rather scarce except for rumors that it runs better on 360 or the likely event that Microsoft wants its DLC first.

If you have the option, go 360.

I have Oblivion and plan to have Skyrim on PS3, and I have Morrowind on my laptop, so life's good.

that really depends dude.. on whether or not PSN gets up and running by the time DLC comes out. That is most definitely important to remember.

it probably will be, didn't anonymous hack it?
I would go for xbox though, just seems better, more people play it so it will be geared more towards that audience

You do know the Ps3 version of Oblivion had better graphics than the 360 version and that usualy the case for most games and i have both so i m not being a really devoted fan or anything just saying

They did not come out at the same time, not a fair comparison. FO3 for example was slightly better on 360 based on reviews I have read. In general when ever I read a review for a multi platform game the 360 version always seems to be slightly better. I assume its because it easier to develop for.

So to the op, I would go with the 360 as more multi platform games are slightly better on the 360 than the reveres.

Trying to get this thread locked I see.

Any multiplatform game is better on the 360. Technically the PS3 is more powerful, but you have to design the game specifically for the PS3.
Of course I'M getting it for PC. :P

Well, that and assuming it doesn't happen again within that time (unlikely but ya never know..). Honestly.. why do the hackers gotta mess with the whole gaming community of the playstation? I don't own one personally, just the 360.. but come on. Hackers normally target the corporations instead of the consumers..

That's usually not the case, actually. All of the games that I have for 360 look the same as their PS3 equivalents except for Oblivion, which I blame on Bethesda not taking advantage of the optimization that they had an extra year to do on the PS3. Hardware teardowns that I've seen are conflicting, where the PS3 is better, the Xbox is better, they are both the same, or they both have certain parts that are better than the other. Who's to know for sure. I am of the opinion that developers usually don't bother making two versions of the same game, just to take advantage of barely better graphics of whatever system. The biggest edge that the PS3 has over the 360 is BluRay, not performance. Considering Skyrim will be using a single disc on the 360 anyways, it doesn't make a difference.

That being said, I will suggest Xbox. In general I find the experience to be better than the PS3, and given Sony's latest catastrophe, my trust in that company is at an all-time low.

Borderlands and Dragon Age Origins have been rated better on PS3. Just sayin.

Because malicious hackers want your credit and personal info to make steal money.

There's a difference between criminals and activists.

True, but more often there rated better for 360. As far as the reviews I have read, which does not say much. I wonder if someone has done some stats on this.

Isn't Sony redoing their online service because of the theft. That'd be why I guess, unless I missed something.

Todd Howard said that it runs more smoothly on the 360. I'm about to switch to the 360 now that Sonys PSN is down. I hate hackers. They have no life and deserve to be locked up for the rest of their lives.

Is there a source for that Todd Howard quote?

Sony pissed off a group of hackers so they busted open their machine. When Sony got back at the hacker responsible for publishing how to hack into the console some other hacker got pissed and took it out on their data base.

My condolences to anyone who got burned by this.

My suggestion is to pick your favorite or wait a couple of weeks and see which console has the better reviews. Of course Mr. Howard said that the plan is to make the game the same for all platforms.

I think you need to recheck your sources.http://www.gamerankings.com/xbox360/942810-borderlands/index.html. http://www.gamerankings.com/ps3/942812-borderlands/index.html. Metacritic is the same as well.
You were right about DA:O though, but we all know EA pays off critics so it doesn't matter.

Edit: Fixed link.

On the different ratings, is it possible that the supposedly better online service on Xbox would sway critics in a subtle way accounting for the variation on metascores? :P

It's down because they want to stop people from breaking in to the PSN. Protocol really. It might make things inconvenient for players, but for their own safety it's good to shut it down and fix the problem.

Sony is at a pretty big amount of fault here though. They were storing everyone's information in plain text, which is something you just don't do if you have a service as important as the PSN. Microsoft knows this, Amazon knows this, and Google knows this. I have a feeling that breaking into Xbox Live would only show results like "9b61edb5b71780ee5734ee0e93ba4f40"
