Which Daedra Lord/s would you want to worship if you had to

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:23 am

What the title and the poll says!
You are allowed to pick multible Daedras if your not sure about which to chose or if there is some other unknown reason why you want to chose more than one.
So, the normal gamer may perhaps not know who all those guys are so I will give a brief explanation of each Daedra Prince (copy-pasted from http://http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Daedric_Princes, since I am a lazy bastard):

Azura.
Spoiler
Azura is the Daedric Prince whose sphere is dusk and dawn, the magic in-between realms of twilight. She is also known as the Queen of Dawn and Dusk, Mother of the Rose, Queen of the Night Sky, and the Anticipation of Sotha Sil. Azura is often associated with the artifact, Azura's Star, a reusable soul gem. Azura is one of the few Daedra who could be considered "good" by mortal standards, and is presumably the only Daedra that shows any concern for the well-being of her mortal subjects, as is evidenced in books such as Invocation of Azura.

Moonshadow is Azura's plane of Oblivion, where she lives in a rose palace. According to The Doors of Oblivion, it is blindingly beautiful and colorful, with flowers, waterfalls, trees, and a city of silver. The Winged Twilights are her servants.

Azura was the god-ancestor that taught the Chimer the mysteries needed to be different from the Altmer. Some of her more conventional teachings are sometimes attributed to Boethiah. In the stories, Azura is often more a communal cosmic force for the race as a whole than an ancestor or a god.

Own input: In Elsweyr Azura (the Khajiits call her Azurah) is credited for making the Khajiit out of the Bosmer stock in Elsweyr.
Azura is mostly depicted as a female and when she shows herself for a mortal she is in a female form.
Azura cursed the Chimer after they betrayed Nerevar Indoril and made their skin grey and their eyes red.
Some people says that she acts like a spoiled princess and that she is extremly petty.

Boethiah.
Spoiler
Boethiah (Boe-EE-Thee-ya) (also spelled Boethia) is the Daedric prince who rules over deceit, conspiracy, secret plots of murder, assassination, treason, and unlawful overthrow of authority. He is also known as the Anticipation of Almalexia. Boethiah loves competition and battle, and is depicted as a great caped warrior, often in a stoic pose. Though typically depicted as male, Boethiah is occasionally referred to as female, though of course such distinctions are somewhat irrelevant among the Daedric princes.

Heralded by the Prophet Veloth, Boethiah is the original god-ancestor of the Dark Elves. Through his illuminations, the eventual Chimer, or Changed Folk, renounced all ties to the Aldmer and founded a new nation based on Daedric principles. All manner of Dark Elven cultural 'advances' are attributed to Boethiah, from philosophy to magic to 'responsible' architecture. Ancient Velothi allegories are uniformly heroic successes of Boethiah over enemies of every type, foundation stories of Chimeri struggle.

Own input: It is rumoured that Boethiah helped Jagar Tharn during his betrayal.
Goldbrand and the Ebony Mail are his most common artefacts.
(EDIT nr. 2)Boethiah also ate the Aedra Trinimac and popped out Malacath when a group of aldmer loyal to Trinimac tried to stop the chimer exodus.

Clavicus Vile.
Spoiler
Clavicus Vile is the Daedric prince whose sphere is the granting of power and wishes through ritual invocations and pact. Clavicus has a companion named Barbas. While capable of selective shapeshifting, the form it assumes most of the time is that of a dog. Clavicus himself is depicted as a jovial fellow with horns protruding from his forehead.

Own input: It is rumoured that Clavicus helped Jagar Tharn during his betrayal.
Clavicus Vile granted the Vampires the ability to blend into mortal society undetected.
The Bittercup and the Mask of Clavicus Vile are his most common artefacts.
Clavicus likes souls for the sake of having them.

Hermaeus Mora.
Spoiler
Hermaeus Mora is the Daedric prince whose sphere is scrying of the tides of Fate, of the past and future as read in the stars and heavens, and in whose dominion are the treasures of knowledge and memory. His name is also spelled Hoermius Mora, Hormaius Mora, or Herma-Mora. Also called the Demon of Knowledge, he is vaguely related to the cult origins of the Morag Tong if only by association with his sibling, Mephala. Unlike most Princes, Hermaeus Mora does not take on a humanoid form at all, living instead as a grotesque, green mass of tentacles and claws.

Apocrypha is Hermaeus Mora's plane of Oblivion, an endless library where all forbidden knowledge can be found. The books all have black covers with no titles, and the library is haunted by ghosts forever searching for knowledge. Apocrypha is Greek for hidden-things.

Own input: Mora nearly seduced the Nords into becoming Aldmer.
It seems that Herma-Mora is depicted as some evil thing who takes villagers lost in the forest in Nedic myth...
The Oghma Infinium is his (but the sage Xarxes wrote it) most common artefact.

Hircine.
Spoiler
Hircine is the Daedric prince whose sphere is the Hunt, the Sport of Daedra, the Great Game, the Chase, known as the Huntsman and the Father of Manbeasts. Hircine created the various therianthropic diseases which transform mortals into beasts, and is therefore the guardian of were-creatures. They reflect his sphere admirably, hunting at night and being hunted by day. Hircine is a sportsman who enjoys giving his prey a chance for victory, however small. He is typically portrayed with a great spear and either the head or skull of a deer.

Own input: His artefacts is Hircines Ring and Savior′s Hide.

Jyggalag
Spoiler
Jyggalag is the Daedric prince of Order, but his sphere and other characteristics were not revealed during the early Elder Scrolls games. Prior to The Shivering Isles, Jyggalag had only been mentioned in books such as "On Oblivion" but had not appeared in any games. Jyggalag commands his own Daedra, the Knights of Order, which are spawned from obelisks summoned by his followers, the Priests of Order.

Shivering Isles reveals that Jyggalag is in fact Sheogorath, a fellow Daedric Prince. Jyggalag had grown in power, and the other Daedric princes had grown fearful and jealous of him. They cursed him to live as Sheogorath, the incarnation of the thing he hated most, madness. This is also why he does not show up in the Elder Scrolls universe apart from TSI, he spends most of the time as Sheogorath. He was, however, allowed to return to his true form at the end of every era in order to retake the Shivering Isles from his mad alter-ego in an event known as the Greymarch. However, once this was done, Jyggalag would be transformed back into Sheogorath, starting the cycle again. At the end of the third era, at the dawn of the Greymarch, a lone Champion of Sheogorath was given the chance to defeat Jyggalag, halting the Greymarch before it could conquer Sheogorath's Realm. This released Jyggalag from his curse, allowing him to remain in his true form. The Champion was then permitted to assume Sheogorath's station in the Shivering Isles. It is unknown yet if Jyggalag will ever return to the Shivering Isles in an attempt to retake them, or what will happen to the Champion of Cyrodiil as a result of their new position as the Lord of Madness.

Own input: He is pretty unknown. Do you like that everything looks like crystals and no-one got any creativity? Propably not. Well that is how Jyggalag wants it to be.

Malacath.
Spoiler
Malacath is the Daedric prince whose sphere is the patronage of the spurned and ostracized, the keeper of the Sworn Oath, and the Bloody Curse. Malacath was created when Boethiah ate the Aedra Trinimac. The Orsimer ("Pariah Folk" in Elvish) or Orcs were also created, as they were Trinimac's devout followers. Malacath is not recognized as a Daedric Prince by his peers, which fits his sphere perfectly. The Dunmer say he is also Malak (or Malauch), the god-king of the Orcs; he always tests the Dunmer for physical weakness. Malacath spurns physical weakness, hence the above-average strength of the creatures associated with him.

Malacath's plane of Oblivion is Ashpit. It is described as consisting only of dust, palaces of smoke, and vaporous creatures: "anguish, betrayal, and broken promises like ash filled the bitter air". Levitation and magical breathing are necessary to survive. The hideous Ogrim are his servants.

Own input: His most common artefact is Volendrung.
He seems to like the Orcs...
Boethiah also ate the Aedra Trinimac and popped out Malacath when a group of aldmer loyal to Trinimac tried to stop the chimer exodus.

Mehrunes Dagon.
Spoiler
Mehrunes Dagon is the Daedric Prince of Destruction, Change, Revolution, Energy, and Ambition. He is associated with natural dangers like fire, earthquakes, and floods. He is an especially important deity in Morrowind, where he represents its near-inhospitable terrain. In some cultures, though, Dagon is merely a god of bloodshed and betrayal. Dagon's plane of Oblivion is known as Deadlands. As the name suggests, they are barren wastelands, consisting of blackened isles in a sea of lava. The Dremora, Clannfear and Scamps are among his servants.

Own input: He definitely helped Jagar Tharn during his betrayal.
He invaded and conquered the Battlespire to assist Jagar Tharn.
He destroyed the city of Mournhold and Ald Sotha (Home of House Sotha and Sotha Sil′s birthplace) at the end of the first era.
His most common artefacts are Mehrunes Razor and the Daedric Crescents (only one is still left in the world of Tamriel).
He tries to invade and conquer Cyrodiil at the last year of the third era.

Mephala.

Own input: Her/His artefacts are the Ring of Khajiit and the Ebony Blade.

Meridia.
Spoiler
Meridia is an obscure Daedric Prince to mortal eyes, and very little is known about her. She is associated with the energies of living things and bears a special hatred for the undead. The Tract of Merid-nunda paints her as a "wayward solar daughter" who was "cast from the heavens for consorting with illicit spectra." Her realm is known as the Coloured Rooms and is inhabited by the Aurorans, who follow Umaril the Unfeathered and play a major role in the Knights of the Nine quest line. Mankar Camoran attributes her (incorrectly) to Coldharbour, the realm of Molag Bal. She was responsible for the destruction of the Ayleid city of Abagarlas.

The Hero of Daggerfall received The Ring of Khajiiti from her after defeating a sorcerer who betrayed her. Her enemies are Ebonarm and Molag Bal. Her day of summoning is the 13th of Morningstar.

Meridia's strong dislike of undead beings is shown in the quest that the player can do for her in Oblivion. Meridia presents the player with the task of destroying Necromancers who are raiding tombs for corpses to raise an army of the undead. Meridia has a great and everlasting hatred for the undead and will greatly reward any who eliminate them from the world.

Own input: There is very little information abot her.

Molag Bal.
Spoiler
Molag Bal is the Daedric Prince whose sphere is the domination and enslavement of mortals. He is known as the King of [censored]. His main desire is to harvest the souls of mortals and to bring mortals souls within his sway by spreading seeds of strife and discord in the mortal realms. One legend claims that Molag Bal created the first vampire when he [censored] a Nedic virgin, who in turn slaughtered a group of nomads. He is a Daedric power of much importance in Morrowind, where he is always the archenemy of Boethiah, the Prince of Plots. In Aldmeris his name means Fire Stone.

Molag Bal's plane of Oblivion is Coldharbour. The book The Doors of Oblivion says that his plane resembles a copy of Nirn, including the Imperial Palace, but all desecrated and ruined. The ground is sludge, the sky is on fire, and the air is freezing. The Daedroths are typically counted among his servants.

Own input: He is said to be the father (along with VIVEC!! Whom he seduced) of a population of mutant degenerates living in the Molag Amur region in Vvardenfell!
He may have assisted Jagar Tharn during his betrayal.
He was responsible for destroying the Bosmeri town of Gilverglade during the end of the first era.
The Mace of Molag Bal is his most common artefact.
He likes havoc and other such crazy stuff.

Namira.
Spoiler
Namira is the Daedric Prince whose sphere is the ancient darkness. She is known as the Spirit Daedra, ruler of sundry dark and shadowy spirits, and is often associated with spiders, insects, slugs, and other repulsive creatures which inspire mortals with an instinctive revulsion. Namira's followers keep to themselves and prefer living peacefully in dark and squalid conditions, and will react violently at any attempts to "save" them from their abysmal, minimalistic lifestyles. As detailed in the book the Beggar Prince, Namira also appears to be associated with Cyrodiil's beggars, controlling the beggaring gifts of disease, pity and disregard.

Own input: Namira′s Ring is her most common artefact.

Nocturnal.
Spoiler
Nocturnal is the Daedric Prince whose sphere is the night and darkness. She is also known as the Night Mistress. The Cyrodiilic Thieves Guild leader, The Gray Fox, has the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, which was actually stolen from her by the first Thieves Guild guildmaster, Emer Dareloth. The cowl truly represents the sphere's darkness quality; it permanently removes the wearer's specific identity from all history. Regardless, the Cyrodiil Thieves Guild venerates Nocturnal by ending talks with the saying "Shadow hide you."

Nocturnal rewarded The Hero of Daggerfall with the The Skeleton's Key in exchange for slaying a rogue mage who caused her much grief. Her enemies include Ebonarm and Azura. She has no known allies. She may be summoned on Hearthfire 8th.

Nocturnal rewarded The Champion of Cyrodiil with the Skeleton Key in exchange for recovering an artifact known as the Eye of Nocturnal which had been stolen by a pair of Argonians, Bejeen and Weebam-Na.

Own input: The skeleton key is her most common artefact.

Peryite.
Spoiler
Peryite, also known as the Taskmaster, is the Daedric Prince whose sphere is the ordering of the lowest orders of Oblivion. Some accounts also claim his sphere is pestilence. Peryite's statue depicts a dragon, and is ostensibly concerned with ensuring all things are accounted for, neat, tidy and in their right order. This is most obvious at the end of his quest in Oblivion, he ends off by wishing the protagonist order in his/her life with his reward item, after freeing the spirits of his followers from their imprisonment in his realm.

Own input: His most common artefact is the Spell Breaker.

Sanguine.
Spoiler
Sanguine is a Daedric Prince whose sphere is hedonistic revelry, debauchery, and passionate indulgences of darker natures. Fittingly, he often appears on the seals and signs of brothels and [censored]-houses. Sanguine is depicted as a portly man with a demon-like head with horns, always with a bottle in his hand or a [censored] under his thumb.

The term sanguine can mean either "cheerfully optimistic" or "bloody"; the double meaning is appropriate for a prince whose realm encompasses both the light and dark sides of passion.

Own input: "He is a merry good ol′ fellow..."

Sheogorath.
Spoiler
Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness, whose motives are said to be unknowable. His realm is known as the Shivering Isles, the Madhouse, or the Asylums. The Golden Saints, or Aureals, and Dark Seducers, or Mazken, are his servants.

Own input: Sheogorath′s most common artefacts are Wabbajack, the Fork of Horripilation, Gambolpuddy and the Staff of the Everscamp.
In Elsweyr Sheogorath is known as Sheggorath or "The Skooma Cat".
It was he who threw the Ministry of Truth on Vivec City (although it was stopped by Vivec himself... for a while).
Most think that Sheogorath is pretty funny.
He is clad as a harmless banker to lead people down the road to madness easier.
Madness is funny :)

Vaermina.
Spoiler
Vaermina (also spelled Vaernima) is a Daedric Prince whose sphere is the realm of dreams and nightmares, and from whose realm issues forth evil omens. Some have also claimed her sphere ties somehow to torture. Statuary of Vaermina depicts her as female.

Vaermina's plane of Oblivion is Quagmire. It is described in The Doors of Oblivion as a nightmare realm, where every few minutes reality shifts and becomes ever more horrifying: "a dark castle one moment, a den of ravening beasts the next, a moonlit swamp, a coffin where he was buried alive."

The Hero of Daggerfall received The Skull of Corruption from Vaernima. She is an enemy of Ebonarm, Boethiah, Peryite, and Hermaeus Mora, but is allied with Sanguine. Her summoning day is the 10th of Sun's Height.

In Morrowind, Vaermina is referenced at the end of the Cure for Vampirism quest in which Molag Bal obtains the cure from her to present to the Nerevarine.

In Oblivion, the player could receive the Skull of Corruption from Vaermina by venturing into the tower that manifests the nightmares experienced by a man who stole Vaermina's orb.

Own input: She likes to send nightmares to people! Scary stuff...
Her most common artefact is the Skull of Corruption.

I really hope that the information is helpful since I have used lots on time for it!
Now vote!
Lorkhan is not included since we got no confirmed source that (EDIT nr.1) he′s a Daedric Prince.

I would worship both Jyggalag and Sheogorath, as one must have both Order and Madness in balance. I would also worship Nocturnal because the great depths of darkness are where order and madness manifest themselves. One must be free from resolute concepts in order to experience that which does not exist in mortal minds. And one must have the logical mind to understand how these concepts connect and form a great web of brilliance.

The Huntsman guides me as I walk the path into Oblivion.

I have loved Hiricine since Morrowind, but if I must choose another prince I would have to say Hermaeus Mora comes in second for I would love to wander his realm. Recently I have fallen under the sway of Clavicus Vile, thanks to Malx and her story, due to his attitude and demenor. Oh, and who doesn't like collecting souls? Any of my other characters are with the Nine, without faith, or follow the Dread Father.

EDIT: Due to recent events I have joined the Banner of the Demon of Knowledge.

I myself would be an Azura or Hermaeus Mora worshipper. Azura for her caring about her followers. If I would want power I wouldnt try to get it from some evil corrupt thing like Molag Bal unless I had to. Hermaeus Mora is one that I am interested in. Think of the power of knowing everything like he does! He knows the past, future and now! Nothing seems to elude him... Knowledge is Power.

If I had to choose just one it would be Azura, but if I have multiple choices it would be her, Sheogorath, Sanguine, and Meridia.

There's a lot about the princes you have not mentioned.

For example, You failed to mention Azura is EXTREMELY petty, and acts like a spoiled princess. Boethiah ate Trinimac and pooped out Malacath when a group of aldmer loyal to Trinimac tried to stop the chimer exodus.

Also, Shor (Lorkhan for you) does exist. However, he is not a daedra. To classify as a daedra, you need to be a spirit that refused to participate in the creation of Nirn, and live in Oblivion. Even though Shor is classified as being more Padomayic, like the daedra, he did give himself up to creation (his heart).

Sorry for being unclear about Lorkhan. I meant that there was no proof that he was/is a Daedric Prince. I will also immediately add those things you mentioned to the descriptions.

Trying to decide between Azura, Hermaeus Mora, and Sanguine.

Azura may be a bit of a spoiled princess, but she treats her devoted followers well. I figure as long as I'm properly respectful towards her she won't get me into trouble.

Hearaeus Mora is the one that intrigues me the most. Forbidden knowledge sounds pretty tmpting, but I'm not sure how much exactly he shares. Certainly a Daedric Prince to respect, but perhaps not the best choice to worship.

Finally we have Sanguine, the most fun of the lot. Would probably be great for the first month or so, but then the whole drunken revelry and debauchery would get a bit old.

So i think I'd just go with Azura, the safest choice.

I just...can't agree to that. If she likes you too much, she'll break all promises and deals just because she can and she wants you keep you as her personal pet. Do anything to displease her, and she reacts with a nuclear reaction, and you'll be thankful it's just you who gets the flak instead of everyone you know and love/like.

Out of all the princes, she has to be the most deceitful and untrustworthy. She only gets people to like her, because her PR department is the greatest in Nirn, and she's a pretty and topless woman.

Any who, Peryite for me. He's the only daedric prince of disease, and all of you can guess why I'd choose to follow a daedric prince of disease.

Can you provide an example of a nucklear reaction? I only know about her and the Tribunal and while it's true that she punished all the Chimer for something only the trio did, I could think of worse fates than being cursed with ashen blue skin and an awesome raspy voice.

I was really aiming at being just a regular follower. I'd pay her my respects and say nice things about her and would be sufficently unimportant not to attract much attention.

I think Namira controls disease just like Peryite?

Anyways I'm tempted to worship Namira, because she's like the protector of all things not-beautiful. I myself tend to dislike beautiful people because I think most of them are phony and are only liked because of what's on the outside. Plus she's associated with "the dark side of nature" with things like spiders, slugs, insects, snakes, and rats. Creatures that humans are instinctivly afraid of, which I kind of sympathize with. Plus her ring is my favorite artifact, because it makes people who hurt you suffer the same pain.

I'm not trying to put down anyone's opinion, but I just want to point out that Azura isn't the only Daedra who cares about her followers. Malacath seems to care about Orcs and Ogers and gets very angry when people treat them badly, and Peryite cared enough about his followers to send the Champion of Cyrodill to Oblivion in order to rescue them.

If given the choice I would chose in order

1. Hermaeus Mora for great knowledge and arcane secrets (And probably become a tool)
2. Hircine as I can respect the hunt for good sport and liked being a werewolf.
3. Nocturnal for the night and shadow, and in general sneakiness.

I HATE the undead.

I've never been a Vampire, and I detest Zombies, Wraiths, Ghosts, Liches, and the like!
Especially Wraiths!

I wonder which Daedric Prince I chose.

And Azura's just cool.

Reasons for not choosing the others:

You can't have order without something to control, and you can't be crazy without a norm to follow... so Jyggalag and Sheogorath are a living contradiction.
Spoiler
Being the same entity and all. Which would make Sheogorath following a system, and Jyggalag a little crazy for not realizing this... making my head hurt.

Namira's the kind of person who would sneeze on you, just to get you sick.

Vaermina would torture me in my sleep.

Boethiah.... well... I don't want to die.

Mehrunes Dagon (See Boethiah)

Clavicus Vile... well, I wouldn't want my life to be based on chance.

Hermaeus Mora is a Daedric Prince about knowing things. It's impossible to know everything, so you really would have to know that you can't learn everything from him.

Hircine's just sort-of creepy.

Malacath is cool, but he's all about steroids.

Molag Bal... self explanatory.

Nocturnal is too mysterious to not be hiding some deep-dark secret.

Worshiping Peryite would be like having a super-severe case of OCD.

Sanguine's too impulsive for me.

I'm not a super-fan of Morrowind, but Azura actually cares about people that she likes. She's less of an "all-knowing, emotionless entity" and more of an emotional being, which makes her more easy to relate to and she's less likely to kill you on a whim if you've served her loyally.

Also she was involved in the Main Quest of Morrowind, which is why many Morrowind fans may choose her.

I find her to be the opposite. I find her vindictive, incredibly vain, petty, and only "cares" because they're more pawns for her to play with. She only acts nice, because it's a great PR strategy, along with being topless and aesthetically pleasing. Her response, along everyone elses but Peryite, for refusing to do her quest in DF is met with scorn and anger. Seriously, the only Prince to not threaten you and your decendents was Peryite, who pretty much said "Well, if you don't feel ready, that's cool. Shows you're not an idiot and that you are maturing."

Also, as one person said "Yes, torture has its merits." Sul would agree with me.
