Yeah, I didn't see any text pop up, but when I went to the inventory under "Shouts", I saw that I now had 9 shouts which was an awesome surprise considering I had zero before that and was lamenting the amount of battles with dragons I would have to go thru in order to use the Skill Perk Reset in Apocrypha.

The dialogue does only indicate one soul, but as I got multiple souls from the fight, I wonder if it's based on how many souls he steals from you before you complete the quest? He nabbed at least three of me on Solstheim.

Those are scripted. I think those dragons you slay are the ones that appear in Appocrypha.
Following that, I have yet to fin another Dragon in Solstheim.

I mean the dragons you encounter out in the wild, as opposed to the ones in the final fight. For a while he pulls the jerk move and steals the souls of the Dragons you defeat.

Well, I definitely did not fight 9 dragons in between arriving in Solstheim and facing Miraak. On top of that, he only stole 1 Dragon Soul from me in the few fights I had on the island. I think it's just from past Dragons he defeated personally. It also could be level dependent how many you receive.

Ahhh...I kinda focused on bringing him down. No sense getting trolled like that.

You got his soul the second time he died. Mora did the first time.

Miraak only stole 1 dragon soul from me, and I got at least 5 when I killed him.

I had to take a break from the MQ to get the house in Raven Rock. I didn't want to have to shuttle between Solstheim and Skyrim just to unload the loot that was piling up fast.

I think the Dragonborns do only have one super powerful soul made of the many absorbed dragon souls fused together. But gameplay wise, the only way to represent this was to give you 9 normal ones. (Realistically it would probably have been more but many more would've been a little OP.)

In all technicalities, when he dies you should get 4. He steals one from you, when you kill the named Serpentine dragon to get the first word of Bend Will, and then during the fight with him he takes the souls of 3 dragons to heal himself.

One more doesn't seem to crazy, as there is a dragon burial site on a small island off the mainland, it might hold a named dragon prior-to the end of the main-quest, I'd need someone to confirm that for me though, as I didn't find it until after.

5 seems logical though. I honestly don't remember how many I got from him, if I got any at all. I don't even know how to check how many I have, I mean, if there's a shot you need to unlock, you can check then, right? But how do you check if you already have all the shouts?

I got around five. He stole one from me after I killed it at the College of Winterhold (I wanted to get my character as strong as possible before I fought him, to build up suspense for myself). I got some other souls after that, but he didn't steal them. Which was weird. I was just like "That... jerk."

You can't forget to count his original soul that he was born with. And he is said to have absorbed many more before the events of the game.

Steals one? He has stolen like 10 dragon souls from me. While the dragonborn MQ is active (after you meet him the first time) theres a % that he will steal the soul of any dragon you kill (even in skyrim).

I quess not any of Daedric Princes. I think Aedra Akatosh may claim hes soul.
