Which Enemies Should/Shouldn't Return?

Post » Thu Jul 15, 2010 5:40 am

I think that is way too much variety for a snigle creature. By that logic every creature should have it's counterpart for a different climate/setting.

The more the merrier! Lol, you think I went too far? Oh man, here I thought I had too few different mudcrabs.

but I'm not saying we should only encounter mudcrabs, but when we do, they should be of a different kind. After all, I don't expect mudcrabs to survive in all climates and environments without differing from each other in some way. Like camouflage colour and overall tactics and hostile level. In addition there could be what I first posted, different toughness/damage/effects etc.

Come to think of it, all creatures should at least have male and female versions along with baby creatures, bringing the world alive in a more realistic way.

I think all your shoulds should be in Skyrim and I think all your shouldn'ts should also be in Skyrim. Just because the enemy is hard doesn't mean they shouldn't be in Skyrim. Also, mountain lions hit like trucks in Oblivion, they were definitely something to fear if you weren't careful.

Gosh they was isn't fearsome like Clan Fears, better to make mountain lions like in RDR, I believe now animation blending will better so there is now more this

Indeed, agree more couldn't yoda master me.

Mountain lions did kick my butt in Oblivion if I stopped, but they also didn't miss me when I walked away like in that video. They kicked my butt especially much if I leveled without increasing my armor/weapon skills and endurance attribute. Mountain lions could be in Skyrim, I don't see why not, after all, the whole place is full of mountains. :)

Which is how it should be. Unless killed from afar I don't expect any human being to survive a close ranged violent assault from a lion or a bear. Well except if you are a bigass pissed Orc that just got dumped by his bosmer girl friend.

Uh... we are the saviour of Skyrim, the Dovhakiin, who will kill DRAGONS. Mountain lions shouldn't be almost impossible to survive.

i would love cliffracers soaring around in the east -> as long as their balanced statwise, and dont spot u from miles off and attack u for the next half an hour. If they were there for atmospheric purposes and only attacked when they strayed near the ground or landed to rest that would be welcome. Would also be nice targets for hunters

Here goes.

Wants:
Gnarl or something similar entish being. Maybe looking more like pine trees and residing in the pine forests.
Bears (black bears in the autumn woods, brown bears in the pine forests and polar bears on the tundra and the glaciers)
Boars (but bigger and more deadly than in Oblivion)
Reindeer, moose and elk (all of them, for variation).
Sheeps and other cattle.
Lynx instead of mountain lion, but bigger and badder than in reality.
Woves hunting in packs.
Water Dreugh
Ogres (But make them more Skyrimish)
Spriggans (definetly)
Trolls (More Skyrimish)
Will o Wisps
Goblins / Rieklings (maybe some other goblin like Skyrim creature).
Giants
Ghosts
Zombies
Lich
Skeletons
Grahl
Horkers
Udyrfrykte or something similar (Udyrfrykte is composed by the words "monster" and "fear" in norwegian)
Eagles
Flocks of ravens
Water Dreugh

Anything else that seems to fit a Norse or celtic winter-scenario.

i dont care as long as the wild animals dont just hunt every player character constantly. the worlds of tamriel are filled with animals whose only diet includes rpg players.

just having a mountain line chase after a deer in oblivion would have made that world 20 times more lifelike.

True, but I'd rather fight an interesting enemy with high-health than an uninteresting one. The Spider Daedra, Atronach, and Xivilai enemies in Oblivion had high health and offered prolonged fights, but were interesting enough that I liked having them around.

Wraiths and Goblins were "bullet sponges" that you encountered too often. It made fighting them a chore. Mountain Lions were ok, but I'd like to see their design improved a bit if they make a return.

Agree with interesting enemies, spider daedras was one of my favourites, not so dangerous alone but they summoned spiderlings who paralyzed so in combination with a daedrot or other strong melee enemies they could be very lethal.
Fewer damage sponges, it’s ok that massive monsters like orges, are sponges but not goblins.

Winged Twilights in Morrowind was cool but they could no actually fly, same with imps, it made no sense that a flying imp fall down a hole unless you stagger, knock out or paralyzed it. Yes melee users will love flying imps with ranged attack but it’s not my problem.

I just don't want the enemies to be all the same. I mean, I don't want all the bandits, bears, mages or dragons to react the same way like in Oblivion. Maybe if all enemy was a little more unique and tend to react differently between races, species or only because of they're level or stats (maybe all not bandits are good with a weapon), motivations (a bandit giving a hell of a fight for no reasons, because maybe if he try to flew after one or two hit, I let him go) or if they are in numbers or in a more hostile place. All creatures like bears, trolls, wolfs, mudcrabs, ect. react all the same way. I mean, just don't make the creatures all react the same, fighting a bear should not always end has the last time (if you get at a place he can't reach you, some bear will try to get you, some are going to get away, some should not even approach you) and try to make enemies react like a human, not a killing machine or the next target. I know it's a hard step for video games, but I'm pretty sure Bethesda is coming with something really big.

Edit : Sorry for my bad english...

It did not work well in Oblivion as summoned creatures did not summon other and the spiderlings was her best weapon.

Fun story, one of the Morrowind designers gave scamps the summon scamp spell, it was a bad idea as the scamp summoned another who also summoned a scamp, they continued until the game crashed. .

If i recal they had pretty nasty lightning spell in Oblivion too. Of course them being daedra, a little spell reflection made that more of threat to themselves

And the primary reason i use summons is a meat shield, distracts the enemy while i finish them off.

What enemies from previous TES games do you you want to see in Skyrim? Which ones do you hope never see the light of day again?

Want-

Mudcrabs- Filthy creatures, but they're a staple. How could the world of TES memes last without them?

Zombies- Because this is a video game, after all.

Hernes- Scamps are cool, but their horned cousins were slightly more disturbing. Bonus points for the hooves.

Winged Twilights- Azura's harpy messengers. They were creepy in Morrowind, and they look like they'd fit well in Skyrim's environment, especially with the new flying animations Bethesda is working on.

Liches- The Mage's ultimate enemy, these guys have been consistently tough throughout the series.

Grahls- The tusked frost-monsters from Bloodmoon. These guys looked tougher than they were, but their design was interesting.

Horkers- They're practically a necessity, being creepy tube-mouthed seals that would fit perfectly in Skyrim's icy waters.

Clannfears- I almost want to put them on the Don't Want list because of their stupid damage reflection ability, but these screechy, beaked super-lizards always interested me for some reason. The more disturbing they look, the better.

Vermais- These bizarre, amphibian-like deadra were terrifying in Battlespire and Redguard, but haven't been seen since. I'd love to see them make a return as high-level deadric enemies in Skyrim.

Hungers- Sure repairing your armor after fighting them is annoying, but I've always liked their designs. Their Skyrim incarnation could be the most monstrous yet.

Don't Want-

Rieklings- Ugly little smurfs. The mounted versions had high health and weren't very fun to fight.

Goblins- Like Rieklings, but greener. I never found their dungeons fun in Oblivion or Tribunal.

Agree? Disagree? Post your own list!

As above the add list is pretty much my wish list, but add these to want for me.

Cliffracers- They were relatively strong for nuisance enemies, and sometimes tough to spot... Morrowind they ould be annoying, but I really liked how they tried to add ariel combat.
With dragons in Skyrim I'm hoping for some flying prey for them, that would provide low - medium challenge to the pc.

Mountain Lions- Getting jumped out of nowhere by enemies is awesome, but these big cats never inspired the type of fear Red Dead's cougars did. They were mostly annoying.
True but that was leveling more than anything, if they made them a mid level blitz attacker with lower health in game it could be fun.

Wraiths- They had too much health, annoying attribute-damaging spells and fairly uninteresting designs. Skyrim's Ice Wraiths look much better.
I agree with the design, but if you add OOO all the attribute damaging spells makes it a nightmare to face, but again lower health should be implemented.

Also some Silt striders could be fun imo.

I would not miss Cliffracers. Or if they find there way to Skyrim, I hope they'll be rared than in Morrowind.

I would like to seem Goblins in Skyrim. Maybe some different variants that have adapted to the cold and/or live deep underground.

I also think some of the tough enemies the OP mentions (like Wraiths) should be in Skyrim for the challenge.

Giants and Ogres seem to fit the Skyrim environment. I'd like to see them.

I personally think goblins should return. I thought they were a lot of fun to fight in Tribunal. The ones in Oblvion were alright but not as fun as the Tribunal ones.

Bleh... I hated the goblins too. I'd never heard of Hernes or Vermais before I came to this thread (then checked the wiki) and I like both of them. The deer/elk horns that the Hernes have really make them look like they fit into a wintery climate better than scamps.

And who doesn't love mudcrabs? I can't believe this forum has a turtle emote but not a mudcrab one.

I forgot about them, but yeah. I just want more daedra/monsters in general.

Yeah, the Hernes are awesome. FCOM added them to Oblivion and they were suitably creepy.

And I know, it's tragic that we can add a little mudcrab love to every post. :sadvaultboy:
