Which execute is better?

Post » Tue Mar 25, 2014 5:07 pm

Hi guys, hoping some of you math fiends can theorycraft me an answer for something I've been wondering about and is important in my class decision.

Which of these two execute abilities will scale better in terms of damage done?

Assassin's Blade for nightblade

  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Range: 5m
  • Cost: 25 Magicka
  • Deals 14 magic damage.
  • Targets with low health take +300% damage.
  • Morphs
    • Impact: Range increased to 15m.
    • Killer's Blade: Heal 15% of maximum health when killing enemy with this ability.

OR

Mage's Fury for sorcerer

  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Range: 28m
  • Cost: 32 Magicka
  • Deals 7 shock damage.
  • Explodes for 27 shock damage if target falls below 20% health within 4 seconds.
  • Morphs
    • Mage's Wrath: Explosion deals more damage.
    • Endless Fury: Killing an enemy restores 25 magicka.

Specifically I'm curious if one will far outpace the other in terms of end game.

I know assassin's blade trounces the 2 handed weapon execute since there were some numbers posted on tam foundry. But honestly no idea in comparison to mage's fury. Sorcerers are pretty powerful atm so nothing would surprise me.

Assassin's blade

Unless you are stacking pure magicka.

Don't forget the AoE element of Mage's Fury. Mage's Fury is undeniably more versatile, but I believe that Assassin's Blade technically deals superior damage.

Multiple enemies nearby = Mage's Fury
Target outside 5m/15m range = Mage's Fury
Single-target, within 5m/15m range = Assassin's Blade

-Travail.

I preferred Sorcerer over Nightblade, but for effectiveness, you'll have to stick to ranged staff attacks.

For the early levels, keep boosting magicka over health, and stick to destruction and restoration staves for weaponry. No need for points in stamina, there will be plenty for dodging during combat. With the magicka investment, you can cast Endless Fury brutally... and repeatedly, if you miscalculate your foe's remaining health.

If you prefer melee combat, Nightblade.

Mage's Fury for sure. The only PvP available at the moment is Cyrodiil, so an AoE execute is more useful than a single-target one.

Do you mean ranged? It's not an aoe iirc

Right.

Let me test that out real quick, I'm pretty sure it does not do the execute damage to enemies. IIRC it deals shock damage, but it's the normal amount. The only one that takes the execute damage is the target.

The AoE damage for Mage's Fury is pretty minimal. Unless you're casting it into a tightly packed zerg rush, the magicka return is more useful.

Yeah. I just tested it. It's pretty pathetic AoE.

The aoe is a non factor on Mages Fury. Keep in mind that once you get your spell costs down through armor passives, class passives and/or magicka reduction jewelry, it will regen more magicka than it costs if it inflicts a killing blow, which it usually does on regular mobs.

Cant speak for the nightblade skill as ive never played one.

Thank you for the feedback guys :) I didn't realize the AoE damage was so poor. I'm very curious to use both as I <3 sorcerer but the nightblade execute has a cool animation :P

I love Assassin's blade since you can morph it to heal up to 18% of max health on a kill. Awsome for finishing off packs of adds to gain some health back.
