Which Faction Will You Join First?

If there's no more fighters' guild I'm going to join the guild where you fight things.

Dark Brotherhood but if the Morag Tong somehow survived and moved to Skyrim, I may give it a second thought

Any Knightly order or religious institution to the Aedra. Did it in Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, hope to do it in Skyrim

Knights of the Nine was one of my favorite knightly orders:

Sir Carodus: KNIGHTS....OF THE NINE!!!!!!!!

it would be cool if there were guilds that dont like each others, if u join A guild u could not join the B guild. Quests to destroy the enemy faction :D.
Like Hunters guild Vs PETA. lol

Fighters and mages guild are imperial institutions, after Oblivion they were disbanded, Mages became Synod and Whispers, any other guild Beyond DB we don't know whats in or not.

There will probably be some form of "combatant" guild or organization. Mercs, fighter guild replacement, whatever.

That said....

....I won't know until I play the game. It depends on what the beginning path of the game places before me. (Won't be joining any thief / assassin / necromancer guilds, my character's going to be a white hat. :))

In Todd's recent German interview, he mentions some quests where it seems like you must choose between helping a racist Nord faction or an anti-Nord elf faction.

I will probably side with the elves, hopefully that will be one of the first faction choices I encounter.

In terms of the civil war, I will probably join the Rebel/Seccessionist faction and help them defeat the Loyalists.

If there is a joinable Necromancer faction, I will try it. I could be persuaded to help them burn down the temple of Synod or College of Whispers - for a price ;-).

Also looking forward to some Dark Brotherhood quests, since they were responsible for perhaps the greatest quest of all time in any RPG I have ever played "Whodunit?"

If there is one, I hope they improve the fighters guild in Skyrim. It just didnt quite seem as fun as the DB and thieves guild was in Oblivion.

those don't exist.

Once again you've made an erroneous assumption. Just because the Mages Guild was disbanded doesn't automatically mean the Fighters Guild was disbanded as well. It hasn't even been hinted at let alone confirmed.

So far, I haven't read anything indicating this either, but I certainly hope the Fighter's Guild was disbanded.

It was the most boring joinable faction in Oblivion by far. Basically, a generic employment office.

If I hear any Skyrim NPCs talking about "I hear they're hiring at the Fighter's Guild" I will be really sad

I certainly hope that both the Synod and the College of Whispers will both be joinable mutually exclusive factions in Skyrim, and that their quests will also overlap with some from the other factions. It would be great if you have to choose between fulfilling a Fighter's Guild contract and assassinating your target (rather than aiding them) for the Morag Tong, for instance.

Why do you dislike it? Is it because of the name? What if they had another guild that was muscle for hire and called it the Warrior's Guild? How would that be any different or better?

Or is it what they do that bothers you? Or is it the implementation of those quests?

A different name could be cool, certainly, but essentially what I found lacking with the Fighter's Guild in Oblivion was that it was sort of generic in the sense that the overall quest line and backstory were not as engaging as the corresponding elements of the Dark Brotherhood or the Mage's Guild. The Thieves' Guild questline I have not yet completed to the end, so I cannot comment on this one.

The Fighter's Guild was a sort of generic employment office, and in its place I would like to see perhaps 2 different rival factions favoring the warrior class, ideally in a deadly blood feud with one another, where quests and intrigue serve to deepen the story of this conflict, rather than simply being a series of odd jobs. We could be talking about mercenary groups like the Blackwood Company, or a group of dastardly Skyrim bandits raiding travelers or merchant caravans from Bruma, etc.

I just really do not want to hear any NPC tell me "The Fighter's Guild is hiring again"

Instead, could you imagine some brilliantly written quests on the level of a "Whodunit?" involving rival warrior factions?

must keep up with tradition that lasted for 3 TES games
1. Fighters guild (ok, in Daggerfall it was Knights guild, but since Knights guild is merged now with Fighters guild...)
2. Mages guild
3. Depends (some sort of arena if possible)

All of them.

For those who are angry at me for wanting to be the head of every guild at the same time: Bite me. :toughninja: This is a single-player game, and I will be the master of everything if I wanted to.

sounds childish, but I'll be joining whichever magic-based guild is more evil
not really for the sake of being evil so much as the fact that I usually align myself with "evil" views. I was pissed I couldn't be a proper necromancer in oblivion (but I did sport the robes sometimes)

so the more evil guild (let's hope the college of whispers. I like the name better than synod) and a few quests with the Dark Brotherhood every once in a while

I would be interested in searching out the Thieves Guild, and joining them. I think my first character will be sort of a gentleman thief, modeled in the vein of the French literary thief, Arsene Lupin (or his grandson Lupin III), or the British TV character Simon Templar "The Saint." If not a thief, then just an adventurer/explorer in general. Probably inspired by Indiana Jones, or James Bond.
