Which game has the best storyline

Post » Fri Nov 12, 2010 12:10 am

So i was just watching a whole heap of Crysis2 soundtrack videos and such,
and i couldn't help but to remember the halo series, with it's excellent storyline and soundtrack. It makes you actually feel like you are fighting for something, unlike CoD..
I'm a PC gamer so dont think im a console fan boy haha
And i just really hope that crysis2 is going to be the same,
But what game do you guys think had the best storyline?
Just add a game in the comments if it is not in the poll. (=

Man. Thats a hard one.
Crysis - No offense but hell no.

But I would say probably, Half Life 2.

There is a good story in Crysis but the Half Life campaign was also great. I would go off on a tangent and say Syberia for me.

Half life is a game that no gamer wants to miss out on , its one of the best games ever . Its more worth to buy that any other game i can think of and its very cheap now.
Even though the best story from these games here i think is halo

Halo is fail, the story is like: bad alienz r wanna keel humans lalalalal; then; amg ZOMBIEE! r wanna eat us :(.
It also has very little realisticality, as the what-so-called missions look like they're thought of a lil' 7 yr old kid that watched too much TV and played too many zombie games.

Since I only played Crysis and Halo out of that list... Crysis.

Crysis story was rather flat and had very few moments full of suspense. Sheme: Super, Ultra, Giga team goes for an archeologist team --> aliens appear. That is only the sheme. In fact the story has it's moments but I think there are much better storylines. Crysis 2 will maybe set the storyline to the right course. For Halo, the story is better and has it's own "flare" but still there are way more games that have good storylines. Bioshock 2 got me really emotional, the endings especially. Dead Space has a good story with twists and several "Oh ****!"-moments. Mass Effect is one of the Epicest games in the world, except for dialogue bugs and glitches in the german version. That it can be influenced is a great idea.

My vote goes to the Gears of War series. There is just so much grit and darkness it the storyline of the series, it fits the game perfectly.

I honestly thought Crysis' story was great. During a time where every second FPS was about either WW2 or modern war, Crysis put a spec-ops sci-fi spin on it and delivered something completely fresh. Aliens buried in the ground for millions of years, found on an archaeological dig, how man struggles to work together when most needed, governments power playing each other to get ahead, search & rescue missions, the lure of unanswered questions...

TBH though, there's a lot of viable alternatives missing from that list. I mean... GTA? lol.

Half life 2 has the best story in a game. Out of those in the list, halo and fallout 3 have the best backstories, but in game story is around meh and ok respectively.

Crysis had an interesting story that just didn't seem to jump out at most people. It was, ironically, due to it's sandbox nature that most people here adored. Some of the best bits of the game story/action wise was actually the two most linear! The point after you exit the frozen sphere (one of the best levels in a game) and the carrier! The alien core was cool, and set you up to see that those aliens weren't there for the lols.

I think with a bit better writing and a bit more scripting in the world, crysis 1 would have ranked up there as one of the best sci-fi games for not just graphics. However, regardless it is one of my favorite campaigns for it's variety, few games have i replayed more than crysis 1 on single player.

I agree with that to a certain extent. I think the foundation of what the story was based upon was great, but as for the player actually going through the game...well, it leaves a lot to be desired. Lots of questions need to be answered that I doubt will actually make it into the second game...

Honestly I know why I'm thinking different to you. I've bought the game in late 2009 so i had a lot more games before I got in touch with Crysis, and so, against other Story gigants like Bioshock or Mass Effect, the Crysis story get's a bit low on. But I agree: it gave a feeling of experiencing something different, but the alien plot was released too late, so many players wanted more koreans and less aliens. Although I think the idea behind that aliens is "cool" (loololololol)

From the poll, I've voted Killzone. It really has an interesting storyline if you've followed the games and the rest of the storyline here: http://www.killzone.com/kz/storyline.psml . For me it really is inspired from the events of Neo Nazi Germany and World War 1 & 2. Very interesting indeed.

Other games that stand out for me: Metal Gear Solid (best series ever!) and Heavy Rain (most immersive game I've ever played)

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Planescape Torment, The Witcher, Max Payne Series, Alan Wake, Mass Effect, Half Life 2, etc. Some of the Final Fantasy games also have great stories, even if the writing/translation is cringe-worthy at times. Left 4 Dead's procedural narrative is cool as well.

Crysis' story was just ok. I'm hoping Richard Morgan will give us a really good story with Crysis 2.

As of this writing Mass Effect has the best story line. Also BioWare continues to release DLC the continues the story line of ME2. No if only CryTek would the same.

Metal Gear Solid. It was enaging, political, and still fun, even though it was confusing at times(MGS2)
