Which game do you prefer?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:13 am

After getting twenty-two hours into New Vegas, only to be plagued with a ridiculous amount of bugs, I decided to give Fallout 3 a go. Installing all of the available DLC, which was possible thanks to my brother owning the Game Of The Year version of the game (he prefers the third game to New Vegas), I began my adventures in the Capital Wasteland. Although a fantastic game in its own right, I'm finding it difficult to find how it is exactly better than New Vegas. Other than the fact that it is less buggy due to years of being updated/patched, I can't see how it is really better. The perk system, although fun, makes me feel extremely overpowered. I'm level six almost and, already, my S.P.E.C.I.A.L is nearly maxed out (7s and 6s on all of them with one 8). There also seems to be nowhere near as many quests. So, which game do you prefer (not taking into account DLC)? Which game do you prefer (taking into account DLC)? Which game is statistically longer too?

When I first started playing New Vegas I preferred Fallout 3.. But after a second play through of New Vegas while I was taking my time I loved it, did every quest and got every follower. Although I do love F3, New Vegas takes the cake for me. Mostly because of followers and the morale choices I find myself in.

I'll say what I always say to my friends; I prefer Fallout 3's atmosphere, but I prefer New Vegas' features (such as hardcoe More, aiming down sights, etc.)

Atmosphere wise, I like fallout 3 better. Exploring the D.C wasteland is just so much more satisfying to me.
Gameplay wise I like NV better as well as all its extra things like being able to look down the sights and the companion wheel.

The good old "World in Fallout 3, story and gameplay in NV" argument here. Awaiting for the good old "Fallout 3's world made sense whatsoever" counterargument ^_^

Fallout 3 felt like a post-apocalyptic RPG
Fallout NV didn't. Felt more like stuff had just decayed with time, rather than with war.

So I prefer Fallout 3.
NV is almost as good though. Still can't forgive Obsidian for omitting random encounters, a staple of RPGs.

Fallout 3 got to my heart first, so New Vegas was a little late to the party. I bet if I played NV first I would have prefered that instead, maybe. F3 was my first Fallout, and I loved it to death. Still do. Of course, I didn't worry about stupid little things a lot of people seem to do, such as Vault 87 or anything like that. Not to mention F3 had a more post apocalyptic feel, New Vegas really felt like a trashed desert city.

I hated Fallout 3's "20 years after the war even though its been 200 years" atmosphere, it took my out of the game and never let me back in, New Vegas's Atmosphere is superior in every way, it feels like the world has moved on, a feeling I got while playing Fallout 2, Unlike Fallout 3 where everyone was still depressed and lazy even though its been 2 centuries.

that and Downtown DC was very underwhelming.

I liked Fallout 3 for exploration and Fallout: New Vegas for gameplay, story, and other features in the game. I prefer the endings in Fallout: New Vegas compared with the ending in Fallout 3.

New Vegas, because of its dynamic endings.

Fo3 broke canon and lore on all fronts. Broken Steel ruined what was already a bad game, bad writing on all acounts, bad voice acting.

I mean fo3 was good for a shooter.

Fo nv though not perfect, has so much better writing in every area, and a gripping main story line. Fo3 your family? Please. Bad writing...

There was radiation 200 years after a full scale global thermal nuclear war. They just stole fo and fo2s story and rolled them into one. Plus, I could not help the Enclave kill me, I was forced to fight for my life, and I was forced to join the bos, who should not have even been there...... And they had bad writing and bad voice acting as well.

Fo nv 9.5/10
Fo3 3.75/10

*sigh*, I'm glad Fallout 3 was my first Fallout, I didn't have to deal with all this "teh canonz" and "broken steel" stuff.

I hated New Vegas and F3 is one of my favorite games of all time (along with F1 and F2, I didn't really like F:T) so my answers pretty obvious...

Didn't you understand how very sarcastic Rook was in his post?

He's trying (badly) to act like a dinosaur to get your reaction from other people :P

Ugh..... great. One of these.

I love all of my Fallout Games, none more than the other, though while the bugged to hell and back PS3 version of FO3 was gathering dust until FNV came out, I find myself playing them both equally now. Personal preference really.
