The thing that will probably stop Skyrim from being ahead of others by a large margin is the writing. Unless there's a big improvement in that department i think it will be in a battle for the starlight with the other biggies this year.

Still though a lot of people love a good open world game, the formula the series has is brilliant. It's just....

"i'm looking for a middle aged guy" etc.

Skyrim+mods is a strong contender for Skyrim.

I don't know because there is so many games coming out around the same time. Some of them are pretty popular RPGs, and those are the direct competition. But Skyrim will also have indirect competition with other good games from different genres. TES usually outshines and grabs game of the year, but they actually have some good competition this time around. Second half of the year is going to be a great time for gamers :mohawk:

There are a lot of really good games coming out this year. Skyrim would have to shine real good to lure more people to play it who otherwise aren't that familiar with the TES-series.

- L.A Noire
- Dark souls
- Mass Effect 3
- RAGE

Deus Ex, LA Noire, Mass Effect, all great games, all are expected to win some trophies.
I'm buying Deus Ex and BF3 and maybe others if they have good reviews on Metacritic&co.

Other games will be really good, but lets face it, SR will outshine them. :celebration:

I think Battlefield 3 will either beat out Skyrim or come close. Battlefield 2 was one of the greatest FPS games of all time, and DICE has already stated they're going back to that style of gameplay. Then again, you could say the same about Skyrim and how they're trying to give it that handcrafted feel which made Morrowind so popular.

Elder Scrolls (and Fallout) are just about the only RPG's I play anymore (besides MMO's). The only game that'll come close to Skyrim is Battlefield 3 coming out around the same time. I can't wait!

On topic: This isn't the same genre but I think BF3 will be very enjoyable. But I don't think it will be as good as Skyrim.

Skyrim can only compete with other TES games. TES games are unique that nothing else really compares.

The witcher 2; It's releasing with a full SDK. It's a chapter based RPG with open world aspects ect, and almost every quest has multiple paths with consequences.

It's also more character dependent than oblivion but still not a total crpg.

Story wise i think the Witcher will do better...unless..unless bethesda is able to pull off another morrowind then it'll be close in the story department.

English voice acting in The Witcher 2 is poor though.

It's easy to say,"Skyrim is going to be the best game ever." I generally don't say this, because I have no idea until I truly play the game... unless it's an Elder Scrolls game. I had huge expectations for Oblivion after having played Morrowind, and they nailed it. I expect no less from Skyrim. This is the thing about Bethesda's games, they never seem to let up, or let down. Good job guys! :thumbsup:

TES is really in a league of it's own in the gaming industry right now, imo. Nothing else offers the same experience. Others have tried, and usually failed miserably. So I think it will easily outshine anything else coming out.

That being said....what else do you expect to hear on the Skyrim official forums

Your asking this question on the Skyrim Forums, so there's always going to be some bias towards this game. You'll find that wherever you go. Skyrim is shaping up to be a fantastic game (definately my most anticipated of 2011) but many other games are looking or have been quite possibly equally amazing by a metacritic score.

Portal 2 - Got like a what, 9.5 meta score?
L.A. Noire - Haven't payed much attention to this but RDR did win quite a few rewards so it has that going for it.
Battlefield 3 - Can't honestly remember when a straight up fps won GOTY but the graphics and what little we've seen of the gameplay and destructible environments look quite amazing.
ME3 - Personally i thought ME 2was a fantastic game and so did many of the critics. Looking forward to seeing more info on this.
The Witcher 2 - Never played the first and not really paying attention to the 2nd but i've heard some big talk about this.
Gears 3 - Looking good but then again, doesn't necessarily scream GOTY for me

Skyrim's my most anticipated but it's going up against some tough titles. Interesting to see how it all turns out. Here's to TES winning again though

Really because the game just went gold....and the fact they even said in the video demo's many of the voices are placeholder.

Also BF3; the second coming of christ for many PC gamers, the first true dx11 game.

The only other 2 games I am looking foward to that I can think of are arkham city and LA noir. That said though I may end up eventually getting some other game and find out I like it alot. :shrug: Happened with fallout 3 before lol.
