Skyrim will outshine all.
The only other game I am looking forward to is Deus Ex:HR. But as soon as Skyrim comes out, I will be shelving Deus Ex for awhile.

"Which games compete with Skyrim?"

As an RPG, probably absolutely nothing, which is a shame, because so far Skyrim is looking to be a lot more FPS than RPG. As a primarily FPS game, there's a handful that might come somewhere close.

You're crazy. The only thing TES has in common with FPS is that it's mostly played in 1st person. TES is one of the few games that remains a true RPG IMO (even though I disagree when people say games like ME2 aren't RPGs :shakehead: )

Haven't seen too much info, but Dragon's Dogma looks somewhat interesting. Has some Oblivion talent working on it.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find any decent RPGs beyond bethesda games, which leaves me up [censored] creek seeing as I mostly only play RPGs. With Bioware going to [censored] Bethesda is the only company that springs to mind, really. I've often seen people commend the witcher but I didn't like having to play as Geralt (?) and couldn't manage to get very far due to the, in my opinion, terrible voice acting. If you're including MMO's I have no idea, though the secret world sounds epic enough that I might be willing to try one for the first time, but then I have a soft spot for urban fantasy and things in that vein which I've only seen done before as an RPG with Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

Asking members of the SKYRIM forum if they think that any games will compete with SKYRIM, awesome!

I think there are no games that will compete with Skyrim this year. I'm getting Brink to hold me over until Skyrim, along with Rift or whatever MMO my firends play on. I was thinking for Portal 2, but I'll wait til a bit after wards to get it.

I am willing to bet that there are people that would believe X game is better than Skyrim. It might seem like blasphemy, but to some people the Halo series, for example, is way better than the TES series.

To me, Skyrim has no competition. But I'm sure as a whole titles such as ME3 and Battlefield 3 will provide competiton on fanbase alone.

I'm always somewhat amused at the random rabid partisanship on game forums. :)

Skyrim will be a good game. There will also be other good games.

Having multiple good games to get and play is a great place for the industry to be at.

It's nice to have choices, instead of just having one game to look forward to or enjoy.

Yeah i agree. my wishlist is...

Skyrim
Battlefield 3
... oh wait that's it for me.

oh well. I think i'm just bored of current-gen games... I haven't bought a new game since New Vegas, and i didn't even nearly beat that. Last game i really got a kick out of was BF: BC2. I wasn't looking forward to any videogames until December 11th rolled around and they announced Skyrim.

I think Skyrim will be the biggest game this year, although, I feel Battlefield 3 is going to be close behind.

Lets hope so. Battlefield should finally put Call of Duty in it's place this year.

Because they state their opinion as fact. Even though they haven't played the game the figure that it is 10x better then any other game out there. For all we know the game could be terrible. YOU CAN NOT JUDGE A GAME WITHOUT PLAYING IT FIRST.

I am very excited for Skyrim. My sig is a joke.

We can judge based on Beth's record for making near flawless games who have won several GOTY awards, coupled with the info and screens we've got right now, all of which are very good IMO.

The original Witcher, from a small publisher did quite well in 2007. I believe they received Game of the Year status, or something similar.

The Witcher 2 promises to be even better. But for a single player game, it will be very difficult to beat Skyrim's open world. I like TES and have played when released, Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, (also the Redguard and Battlespire spin-offs)

I will get:

The WItcher 2
Guild Wars 2
Skyrim

And perhaps some lighter fair, just to mess around with.

You can eat crap or you can eat cake. Yes, you can choose, but in reality you don't really have a choice.

Or thats how it's at least for me when comparing TES to other games. Last game I bought was FO3 and the next one will be Skyrim. I don't play so much as I used to and the time I spend for playing I want to play really good games. And that includes only Skyrim for this year and couple of years to come. I would probably play more if there were more games like TES, and on the other hand, I probably wouldn't play nearly at all if there wasn't TES.

Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of other amazing games coming out, but, as of now I think Skyrim will be the God among Gods.

Yes the game is looking great but any game can fail. Look at DA2 the original is a great game, but look at all the hate DA2 is getting. Past success is not a guarantee for future success.

Skyrim isn't released, nor are most of the games it will be competing with, so I honestly can't say which games compete with Skyrim.

TES will be the best game coming out. However, you need to keep in mind of people who prefer instant gratification and a "kill everything" attitude. They'll hate it, because TES is a slower series that's very open world. The though of working towards a goal can put off the twitchy players who want to kill everything at first sight with little to no consequence.

The only other game on my radar, in terms of awesomeness, is The Witcher 2. There is ME3, but I'm not LOOKING forward to it, like W2 and TES:V.

Theres a lot of great titles coming out this fall which I am (almost) equally excited for.

Mass Effect 3

Battlefield 3

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Also competing for GOTY will be Portal 2, Duke Nukem, and L.A. Noire. This is a great year for games--bad year for my money.

This is a good year for pc games and I'm also looking forward to play The Witcher 2, Risen 2 and Deus Ex 3. I don't need Skyrim to "win" a contest, I love all these series for what they are, and they are different enough to keep me interested.

As others have said, there is no other game similar to Skyrim, or TES in general, so Skyrim will be the best in it's class.

I do look forward to Mass Effect 3, Dragon's Dogma, Deus Ex, hmm..... oh, and the Witcher 2, but I believe Skyrim will outshine them all. :tes:
