Which had the better soundtrack: F3 or New Vegas?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 11:30 am

The western style of music opened up a new genre for me to enjoy, I prefer Fallout New Vegas since it's more memorable. I'm not really into 50's american music.

For me its New Vegas because I can actually remember the songs. The only one that I find memorable in Fallout 3 is "I don't want to set the world on fire" by the Ink Spots. Fallout 3's radio soundtrack was just one of the many things that Bethesda used to shove a constant stream of a retro 50's atmosphere down our collective throats. It annoys the hell out of me now.

I feel the same way, really. I haven't played 3 in, well, forever, so I don't remember much of the radio tunes. I do catch myself whistling some NV tracks every now and again though.

I listen to Radio New Vegas for the news, primarily. The one song I listen out for is Big Iron. In Fallout 3, I don't want to set the world on fire.

Big Iron makes me feel something, whereas the other doesn't, so I'll have to say I like the New Vegas soundtrack better.

I enjoyed it. It made sense for D.C., it's the heart of America, of course the musice would be as idealised as possible musically and culturally.

I enjoyed them both in different ways. I liked RNV because a lot of the music had a beat you could swing to. I liked GNR because it was perfect for setting the idea of how D.C. tried to hold true to that classic Songbook America lifestyle during those troubled times Pre-War.

Ultimately you can't argue either is TRUELY better than the other because they both reflect the personalities of the region to a 'T'.

Fallout 3, by a longshot. Although Big Iron is a good song on New Vegas.

^ this a million times over.

Both great soundtracks but I believe FO:NV edges out FO3 by just a smidge. The Ink Spots are simply amazing in FO:3 however Big Iron is more then just a song for me while playing. I can't explain it but Marty Robbins voice really added something special to what I already consider a true gaming masterpiece.

I enjoyed them both greatly, but honestly I believe that I preferred the Fallout:New Vegas more, if only for the music from the original Fallout.

From both, my favorite tracks:

Hard to choose any one of them over another, but I suppose overall I like more New Vegas songs than FO3 songs.

Also I dun care what anyone says, I like Johnny Guitar. :D

Radio New Vegas over GNR anyday.

But for ambient music, this is my favourite -

I'm listening to the Galaxy News soundtrack while I work

Yea, I got it bookmarked! :) I agree I love the 'Swinging 40's" sound, I guess because I've always been a Billy Holiday fan anyway. I bought me actually a 2nd Billy CD, so I can listen to "Crazy he calls me..." over and over!

Although, I feel the music certainly fits the setting in both games. I'm just not big into Western/ Country music LOL :D

New Vegas had the better ambient soundtrack.

Didn't care too much about the radio stuff in either, so no real difference in quality there, imo (other than Three Dawg almost popping a vein in my brain for the sheer annoyance of hearing his voice).

I prefer New Vegas' soundtrack, as I'm a big Marty Robbins fan. And because "Why Don't You Do Right?" and "Blue Moon" are two great songs. So is "Ain't that a Kick in the Head." I guess what I'm getting at is that New Vegas' soundtrack had a myriad of songs that I like, whereas Fallout 3's only had a couple (I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire is the only one that comes to mind). Both fit their respective settings very well though, so I would say they're equal in that department.

As for ambient music? New Vegas and its DLCs had great ambient music, while some of Fallout 3's seemed out of place.

I hear many people talk about the 50s songs from Fallout 3, but weren't most of them from the 30s and 40s? Besides that point, I do prefer it to New Vegas' (though I also like Ain't that a kick in the head), I found Fallout 3's more catchy and more pleasant to listen to during course of play.

Their both good but I prefer NV, even though I like the 50's music in F3, NV's songs were more memorable.

FO3 hands down. It knocked the 50's theme right out of the park! In contrast, I was mildly disappointed with music selection in FONV. A whole faction based off of Elvis, but no music by Elvis? Not enough Sinatra or Rat Pack music, and there could have been better western music. I understand that there was no room in the budget though :(

According to JE Sawyer's Formspring, it was far too expensive to include Elvis songs, even the songs that weren't popular. I'd imagine Sinatra's songs are very expensive too, so they had to limit the number of those as well.

Soundtrack as in the radio music? I don't really care about that, I rarely have the radio on. I leave it off because I like walking into a building and hearing the radio on.

The music I like the most in Fallout 3 is Agatha's Radio Station. The music I like the most in New Vegas are the songs of The Lonesome Drifter.

Fo3... there was somthin about the innocence of the tracks in contrast to the uber violence that really hit home... and they were just better...

One of my buddies still busts out with " I'm tickled pink... " once in a while outta the blue

A-bongo-bongo-bongo I don wanna leave the congo oh-no-no-no-no...

I think the ambiance music is very good in both. NV probably edges it for me by virtue of using a few tracks from 1 & 2 that set a particularly strong (possibly nostalgia-driven) tone for me. Radio-wise... Probably Fallout 3. Downing baddies in that bodies-and-limbs-flying-everywhere manner to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcmrkdmP81I, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYsPKCZHOJA, or any of the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0JYTgRxkd4 strikes that comedic violence tone with a 50's/60's twist that's just so very Fallout.
