Which had the better soundtrack: F3 or New Vegas?

Fallout 3 with Fallout 1/2 ambients is just pure epic.

I am a huge 30's, 40's and 50's Jazz fan. I like Bob Crosby and Helen Forrest the most. So I'm Kinda split down the middle.

If you read most of my posts you could tell I like Fallout 3 better than New Vegas. That's not saying I hate New Vegas. As a matter of fact I actually think that New Vegas has the better soundtrack because, it has more artists and more of a 50's jazz tune to it. The game's storyline is "What if the 50's stayed the 50's until 2077 and beyond?"

So yes, Fallout New Vegas has the better soundtrack.

I always turn off ambient music in games... it just takes me out of the games. Actually, I take that back. I listen to ambient music in turn-based games, but for real time ones I don't enjoy it. As far as radio goes, I liked both 3 and NV songs, although NV had some that prefer not to listen to. As the DJ's go I don't much care for either, but I really, really despise 3dog. It is a credit to the songs that I put up with that annoying pos, 3dog, just to hear them.

Radio Music = FO3 by a long margin. Unfortunately the DJ is unbearable.

I found that I listened to the ambients in NV for the most part while playing over any radio, I loved the inclusion of the tracks from the originals.

I have a better question.
Shouldn't this be in Series foum since it's about two games and not just one?

And I like New Vegas the best because it has the old tracklist.

Radio New Vegas over GNR anyday.

But for ambient music, this is my favourite -

New Vegas had the better ambient soundtrack.

Didn't care too much about the radio stuff in either, so no real difference in quality there, imo (other than Three Dawg almost popping a vein in my brain for the sheer annoyance of hearing his voice).

^This. Although F1/2 is best for me.

That music actually comes with NV but its never used. I think all the music from 1&2 is included.

New Vegas for me.

New Vegas hands down, for the ambience and the radio included. Wayne Newton added a classy Vegas touch.

The only song on FO3 I liked was the Ink Spots - "I don't want to set the World on Fire," which everyone already knows is the main theme.

Also, three dog was hella annoying as all HELL.

This time around I hope they add moar radio stations and pleassseeeee I hope I get an electronic station with some hard techno.

I loved both the radios in FNV and 3. I think a lot of the popular songs in F3 really went well with the story and setting (I made sure I was listening to Way Back Home when I returned to 101).

My preference though goes to Radio New Vegas/Mojave Music Radio over GNR. The songs in FNV were so much more memorable than F3's (I got spurs, that jingle jingle jangle). Also, Wayne. [censored]. Newton. The original Mr. Las Vegas. His voice makes me melt whenever I hear it. I do love F3's music a lot as well, but the only ones that come to mind are Civilization, Way Back Home, and Tickled Pink.

Now I've never been a big fan of the ambient music/soundtrack. The only time I've really loved a game's soundtrack has been Martin O'Donnell's work for the Halo Franchise. I've never really payed attention to the game's ambient music to know each track by name, but it is fun to have music to be turned down low whilst walking through the Wasteland, gives a very ghastly effect if you ask me.

New Vegas for sure. Had nice Ambient music, and the radio was far more varied.

i'd have to say FNV has the best soundtrack, but neither game has a great soundtrack because they just went too far with 50s theme, radio stations should be playing music from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. how i see it, regular radio stations would play music from the 30s, 40s, 50s and some from the 60s, while "underground" radio stations would play music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

both games had decent background music though.

The 80s and 90s is stretching it. I wouldn't mind early eighty at the most.

Fallout 3 hands down. I really did enjoy NV's radio though, it was a good fit for the location with all the Western music and such. But FO3's music is just.. passionate for lack of a better word. Listening to "I don't want to set the world on fire" while standing at the top of the Washington Monument, looking out at the wasteland.. it's almost beautiful.

I suppose they were going for it, but the music in NV wqas as lang and drawn out as the empty spaces between locations.
I didnt really care at all for about half of the tunes.

F3 just seemed to have a better mix, i guess. Though, the stations would get stuck playing the same 3-4 songs over and again, quite often.

So, I'll choose the write in vote for this ballot, my own "radio station:" controlled through my 360 playlist :D

Fallout NV seemed to have more slow songs, and several more famous artists.

Fallout 3 seemed to have a bit more variety, but with some up beat songs.

I personally like Fallout 3's radio better.

the war began in 20XX, so no, music from the 80s, 90s and even 2000ds woulden't be stretching it at all.

The divergence between our reality and the Fallout universe happened in the 1950's which is why all of the music is from that era. We don't know what the music industry was like during that 120 years of alternate history.

the fact that the world was stuck in the 50s for 120 years is just absurd, i can easily imagine clothing, architecture, mannerisms, ect... remaining unchanged for that long, but music, military technology and media are constantly evolving before our very eyes, so these things just coulden't have remained static for so long, infact they have not, if you look at combat armor for example, you can see it's something that probably would only have been concieved in the 70s or 80s.

i think the fallout devs should so a little more research, not just blindly follow stereotypes.
