Which had the better soundtrack: F3 or New Vegas?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 4:38 pm

This could be in reference either to the instrumental music played while exploring, or the songs on the radio. It'd be impossible for me to choose really. But I think the F3 soundtrack has more nostalgia for me, and it will always make me think of the game. I think the exploring tracks for F3 were just perfect.

But like I said. I loved both.

well while exploring and combat were the same with New Vegas adding in FO1 and 2 music in and around places

Radio wise I would give FO3 the better soundtrack but then the music there wouldent really fit the tone and style of new vegas, same with new vegas radio station not fitting FO3

In this town there lived an outlaw by the name of Texas Red
Many men had tried to take him and that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer, though a youth of twenty four
And the notches on his pistol numbered one and nineteen more
One and nineteen more

Probably my favorite song in New Vegas Radio.

Fallout newv egas musics without radios on are better (cuz it seems like theres only one for open air wasteland exploring in fallout 3)
Fallout 3s radio is something more enjoyable in the long term but new vegas' radio is more enjoyable on the short term(i get bored of the vegas' radio quicker)

I prefer the music from F3 but I do like the liveliness of the NV tracks its just that the different locations have a different mood and style to them and the radio soundtrack is in some place a little inappropriate such as the quarry or nellis air force base

I preferred Inon Zur's in Fallout 3 ultimately, even if New Vegas had some pretty nice ones. The Legions and one of the NCRs in particular is good along with a certain string piece. Nice "western" vibe though since I'd been playing RDR the months before NV's release I had a bias towards it.

I know the mostly Fo 1/some 2 tracks put in from Mark Morgan's work is counted but I want to grade New Vegas solely through it's new music and less on the ones from 1-3 also put in(Although all those tracks ultimately worked except 3s. Mostly because instead of nostalgia it made you think, Well this instantly sounds and feels like 3.)

So between those two if not counting the added remaster tracks I choose Fallout 3's.

Best one of the entire series? Original Fallout's probably. Great atmospheric tracks.

I am partial to 3's. Fit pretty well. As for radio, 3's also from 3 Dog to the tracks.

But New Vegas's tracks are more fully "fitting" in a way because the stereotype of western music is in many peoples minds.

East coast so much doesn't have a set "sound" to immediately identify it. Que to GTA IV's radio and Vice City's. There's nothing wrong with 4's. But Miami has an immediate feel and sound to it than New York.

They all svck if u ask me, beside a few songs that actually are worthy of fallout.

Fallout 3= i really love i dont want to set the world on fire.
New Vegas= that lone star or whatever the name is. The one about the Texas ranger. And the one the lonesome drifter sings at the Tops.

For me its New Vegas because I can actually remember the songs. The only one that I find memorable in Fallout 3 is "I don't want to set the world on fire" by the Ink Spots. Fallout 3's radio soundtrack was just one of the many things that Bethesda used to shove a constant stream of a retro 50's atmosphere down our collective throats. It annoys the hell out of me now.

Fallout 3's soundtrack is better for me, but that's probably because I spent hours upon hours listening to the same tunes.

Again it's a subjective topic , but what obsidian done with new vegas and the Western theme is very similar. The fallout series has never had this western theme before.

Unless you're moaning about 50's altogether then i'm lost or you just have little taste.

There's nothing wrong with 50's culture, but the shear amount of it that was stuffed into Fallout 3 was ridiculous and the music on the radio only added to the mess.

The difference with New Vegas is that the western theme stays in the soundtrack. It doesn't permeate everything you see, it's only there if you choose to enhance it through your actions.

For ambience, I don't think either soundtrack is particularly good, but if I had to pick one I'd go with New Vegas' as it fits Fallout much better than 3's ambient music and generally sounds a bit better. For the radio, I find them both to be fairly equal.

Fallout 3's soundtrack is better although New Vegas has a couple of incredible pieces including the one piece that plays when your in House's penthouse.

Fallout 3 had some excellent songs like I Don't Want to Set The World no Fire and scores bonus points for The Adventures of Herbert “Daring” Dashwood. After listening to the music in New Vegas though I've ended up getting into Frank Sinatra.

End of the day a double CD with all the songs from both games would be brilliant.

Fallout 3's OST was okay, it had a couple of really great pieces but mostly it was meh and it did not fit the game and setting at all, some of the tracks would feel right at home in Oblivion actually. New Vegas' OST on the other hand fits the setting and is much more Fallouty then F3's soundtrack, which mostly consisted of generic epic orchestrations, not very Fallouty is you ask me.

Really it all comes down to preference, I prefer NV's smaller more ambient approche, even Mark Morgan's original songs fit in with the new music, which they don't with Fallout 3.

And as far as radio songs go, I like them both about equally.
