Which Hero or Anti-Hero do you identify yourself with?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:51 am

Even if you wouldn't consider yourself a hero, a certain circumstance that might a occur (a revolution, a revelation, a vendetta or just a small choice you make in life) could bring those qualities out of you. If so, which type of hero or anti-hero do you find yourself rooting for?

On my part, I want to serve God, like David.

Ah, Quixote. He didn't like the Dutch...something I admire in a man.

Odysseus was forced to go through his journey by Athena and Poseidon, not to seek adventure for the lulz.

One who seeks to protect. Its a state of mind that Ive had for a long while now and is part of my core beliefs. So much so that I have started to dedicate a half sleeve tattoo to the mind state of protection and defense.

He did a lot of other things for the lulz though. Like exploring the cyclops island or choosing to hear the siren's song. He stirred up trouble everywhere, while Achillies fought with valor, Odysseus used guile and trickery. In the end he's not the best example of an adventure seeker, but I thought because we associate his name with adventure/journey, I used him as an example.

Where's the one who seeks knowledge?

Gilgamesh. Though he didn't really set out for knowledge, I think his entire life represents the transformation from a selfish warrior to a good king. In the end he didn't find immortality in his journeys, but he returned with insight and wisdom.

One who seeks for his and his cared ideals ONLY.

If I had a true friend, he'd be in the cared. Obviously my family would be in the cared. I find it useless to help strangers as they can just turn around and backstab me. Justice, ha. One of the most corrupt things in the world is justice. Besides, no one man can judge another man.

Not saying I don't obey laws, no matter how stupid. I follow laws...mostly for fear of being [censored] in prison or spending a million dollars on a professional lawyer. But if two people stand before me with the same crime and one was my best friend who was always there for me and never betrayed me, I'd pick the best friend to be freed in a heart beat.

Sounds a lot like Objectivism...

Depends on the mood really. Sometimes I seek vengeance ( i.e The Punisher) and sometimes I seek justice (i.e Rorschach) but my main aim otherwise is to defend and protect people who can't protect themselves (i.e Zorro). And thus was born,

The Defender of the Downtrodden
The Hero of the Hopeless
The Patriarch of the Poor

Holy Assassin.

I choose the one that seeks to protect. Like someone else said on here, its a mind set you get into. Whenever I go out on the town with my friends I carry a knife and I go out prepared to use it and expecting the worse, its probably not the healthiest mindset to get into all the time but if anyone tries to mess with me or my friends they'll be leaving with some stitches. And a year ago I almost had to use it, we were walking on a skyway in some dirty little city when the most stereotypical thug approached us and demanded our wallets I flicked out my knife and me and my friends told him to "F off" and he did.

looking back on that incident I see that I risked getting shot by pulling out my knife but damn I had so much adrenaline I was ready to pounce no matter what weapon he had.

Seeks to protect.

In a different way than the others who've explained themselves, though. - I seek to protect even people that don't really have important roles in my life; all I want is if someone is in trouble or hurting, to optimize their survival via either helping by physically doing something or just "being there" for them. I'm not sure if I can explain it properly. Basically, I put other's needs above my own when they need the protection from others or even themselves.

Which is quite taxing on the mind.

Those aren't really anti-heroes.

All the same I'd probably be one who seeks to learn, or knowledge, but to the effect that it serves his own self interest. I seek adventure in knowledge and observation.

Edit: Kind of like Lina Inverse. She travels around having adventures and saving the world, but she's not a hero that seeks it. All she wants is to gain knowledge, and serves her own interests by taking that knowledge from wherever she can.

I would probably say that I am a hypocritical hero who may say one thing then do another with tenacity and down right barbarity in one hand. However in the other hand I have understanding, kindness, and acceptance in the other. As was once said one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter and yet there are those that fight for no man.

One who seeks righteousness, only problem with that is how relative righteousness is. I would consider myself closer to Arjuna or Quixote, but if it came down to supporting one of those heroes, probably Gilgamesh.
