I'm getting a new laptop which I want to be able to play modern games (e.g. Skyrim, possibly Fallout 4) on. Due to various circumstances I have narrowed it down to the following two:

15.6 " HD 1.8Kg
4GB DDR3 500GB HDD
B/T W/CAM 2 USB
Intel HD 5500
4 Cell Battery
Windows 8 64bit

And:

Fujitsu AH564 Touchscreen
Laptop i7 4702MQ 2.2GHz
15.6 HD Non Reflective 2.3Kg
8GB DDR3 1TB HDD DVDRW
B/T W/CAM 2 USB
Nvidea Ge Force 1GB
Windows 8 64bit
6 Cell Battery

Anybody got any thoughts, particularly on graphic cards?

Which Nvidia card? Nvidia Geforce 1GB isn't specific enough.

From Googling the model number it looks to have a Nvidia GeForce GT 720M.

That card looks to get about 30FPS on medium settings in Skyrim at 1366x768.

The Intel 5500 will only get about 14FPS at 1366x768 in Skyrim.

We can't really check to see how well it run in Fallout 4, since we haven't seen anything about that game for recommended specs or how well optimized it is.

Must this be a laptop? You can probably get a much better deal on a desktop.

I wouldn't suggest any of those two. !!! GPU is too weak...

The Wtcher 3: 1366x768 Medium Graphics & Postprocessing --> >40 fps

GTA V: 1366x768 Normal/medium 4xAF --> in the 70 fps area

Battlefield Hardline: 1366x768 Medium Graphics Quality (DX11) --> in the 80 fps area

Dragon Age: Inquisition: 1366x768 Medium Graphics Quality --> in the 40 fps area

Far cry 4: 1366x768 Medium Graphics Quality --> in the 50-60 fps area

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare: 1920x1080 High / On (Cache Shadow Maps Off) FXAA --> in the 40 fps area

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor: 1366x768 Medium Preset --> in the 50 fps area

Skyrim: 1920x1080 Ultra Preset 16xAF 8xAA --> >40 fps

Just to clarify, this is being partially funded by a government scheme, so I sadly can't just pick any laptop (and it has to be a laptop). There was a longer list, but these were the best two of the ones that weren't Macs.

I don't think I've ever actually see something run in 14FPS, so I guess the Fujitsu?

yeah, i wouldn't go with either personally.. you would likely have issues running Skyrim on higher settings, especially if you plan to use a lot of mods , and in all honesty i doubt you would be able to run Fallout4 at all considering required system specs for most newer games these days..

which is something I think you should honestly give consideration to, a Desktop will almost always be significantly more powerful than a laptop of the same price.. and if you plan to do alot of gaming on it, you will save A LOT of money in the long run because with a desktop you can upgrade parts piece by piece as games requirements go up, that is something you can not do with a laptop because most laptops don't have interchangeable components (except from the RAM or HDD)

with a laptop, you would have to literally buy a whole new laptop once games begin to require more powerful machines.. but with a Desktop, you can just swap most of its parts with a more powerful upgrade later on saving you a lot of money in the long run.. that is a reason you should at least consider a desktop rather than a laptop..

(fyi, when it comes to computers in general, there are a few brands i would personally avoid.. Lenovo and Acer being the two prime examples.. when i used to work in repairing and refurbishing PCs at my previous job, i experienced a lot of issues and hardware failure from those brands)

Or maybe you can get a good deal on X1 or PS4, maybe FO4 will be bundled with one.

Since I do not think any of those laptops will play FO4.

Skyrim can be played on the second one but I would not go to overboard with mods especially with texture mods.

YEP, from those two, the best is the Fujitsu. (as CPU and GPU concerns)

As for Skyrim at 1280x720 (low settings) you will get: ~50 fps

at 1366x768 (medium settings) 4xAA you will get: ~33 fps (so if you disable AA, you get some fps more)

---Those numbers are with an I7- 4702MQ Processor, and with the Nvidia ForceWare 331.65 drivers---
