Which LOD files do I need for my mod in Tamriel?

Post » Wed Apr 17, 2013 1:02 am

After testing the exterior of a house I'm building, I've found that a big honking mountain stands in the middle of my courtyard. Now, I've done all the necessary landscaping in the CK, and nothing shows up there. It doesn't seem to have collision either, seeing that I can walk right through it. So what's up with this mountain and how do I get rid of it?

as that's obviously not an object-mountain, but raised ground, probably another mod in your game that raises it there? or lod maybe, since it doesn't have collision (? you walk straight through that, or...?)

Yeah, I walk straight through it. Is it lod then, and if so how do I go about removing it without screwing something up. (Also, why would I be seeing lod right in front of me? Isn't it supposed to be...distant?)

It's the detailed terrain that disappers at a distance, LOD is always present.

If you use the console command tcl and move your character under ground level, you'll see the LOD layer.

If you alter the landscape too much, then you can go through the LOD layer and that's what causes it to show ingame. Go to the tutorial post and look for the link to AJV's LOD creation video.

I just watched the tutorial, and while it's certainly useful information, it only goes over generating distant lod for new world spaces and specifically mentions that editing existing lod is a bad idea. So...how do I go about editing existing lod without causing a plethora of issues?

For editing vanilla LOD, you need to figure out which LOD files that small piece of land uses, then regenerate just those. (OR regen it all, then pick those out and delete the extra stuff)

There are others that can tell you how to easily figure out what LOD files you need.

Well, I can't seem to find what lod files I need. So...others that could tell me where to easily find them, could you, um, tell me please?

It may help if you get a mod to change the thread title to something more like "Which LOD files do I need for my mod in Tamriel?" or something. That may draw their attention. I wish I remember who exactly was good with this stuff...
