Which UI Mod is best?

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 2:53 am

I've been playing Oblivion with quite a few mods installed; however, I have never tried any UI mods.

I believe the two most popular are DarnifiedUI and BTmod, is that correct? Or is there another one I'm missing?

Which do you prefer and why? (In case it's helpful, I am playing at 1920x1080 resolution)

DarN's UI Mod is an absolute, must-have, can't-play-without mod for me. I recolor DarN with Luchaire's http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16897 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16387 textures.

DarkUId DarN is my favourite, as it combines DarkUI and, well, the DarNified UI.

You can combine UIs too, like say, the above with the Immersive UI. Which, itself, is another popular option, I believe.

If you don't want a really big overhaul, and want to keep the HUD unobtrusive, I use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1825 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4109. My hud looks like http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/8694/hudexample.jpg. And that includes http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26220, which required a simple manual edit to make it work with Immersive Interface. Actually if you're not averse to editing xml files, you can tweak things exactly to your liking. I didn't want to install all of DarN but I borrowed some formatting from it, as well as using the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2331 to make a smaller font to go with edits to fit in more lines on the inventory screens (BTmod does this, but I wanted more! hehe). Aside from BTmod's size edits and more lines my inventory screens and various menus look just like the vanilla ones, with the additions of stuff like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31855 and a different map image.

Of course you can probably just go with DarN and be completely satisfied without having to play with xml files. :teehee:

I used to play without Darnified because I thought it was too small. I WAS A FOOL, DARNIFIED IS AMAZING. You may just need time to adjust, though it is so much better than default.

An alternative is wzMod which is what I used beforehand for item management. There's a mod to fix a longstanding bug where your dividers will overlap with items, but you'll have to find it yourself.

That is indeed the one, i always install DarkUI Darn combined with http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34792. It will allow you to make changes ingame and those changes will stay in effect for as long as you want them to, so that you do not have to make the same changes every time you load a savegame. :)

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. They all look much better than the vanilla UI.

Interesting - it seems on the World Map it is possible to toggle quest markers?
