Added the entire Morrowind Music Folder. ;)

And later on, I added 2 CD's: Mystic Quest and Celtic Quest.

Finally, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vjuxvi-0UFs&feature=related and Michikawa's music from TESNexus!

It would be good to tell us what particular music files you added to which folder (Dungeon/Battle/Explore/Public), so that we also can replicate the same structure without a\having to listed to each and every music file and making an on-the-spot decision.

I prefer medeival instrumental music, or something similar to what was composed by Jeremy Soule - I've added the Morrowind music, music compilation files found on tesNexus and PES (don't remember all of them, but Michikawa's music is there, and so is Kiril Povxxxoski (sp?)), also added music from Nehrim at this moment.

No need. Everyone should make their own structure. ;)

How did you improve your oblivion sound?

By turning off music, installing OSSO and a few smaller sound replacers, and using head phones.

Most of Jeremy Soule's other soundtracks fit with the originals like a glove, like Guild Wars, Dungeon Siege 2, etc. I also added a heap of mp3s from Everquest 2 which you can simply get from the game's folders.

I added some music from Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, Lord of the Rings and from some of the well known music packs that can be found via tesnexus and planetelderscrolls. The orchestrated overworld themes from Final Fantasy VII and VIII fit in well with Oblivion, as does some of the battle music (the Final Fantasy VIII battle music sounds great when fighting in the arena). Also, Zelda overworld music from the various games like Ocarina fit in well as well as town music (the market theme from Ocarina, Kakariko village). Just some of my personal tastes.

Music from jRPGs, mostly by Sakuraba and Mitsuda. For sepcific locations or times with the excellent Better Music System mod (when it works properly :brokencomputer:).

"Omen" from Xenogears with Giruvegan Enigma" and "To The Place of Gods" from FFXII go perfectly for Ayleid Ruins.
"Interval of Freezed Time" from Star Ocean 3 goes perfectly for Oblivion planes.
"Another World Theme" from Chrono Cross is an excellent nigh-time exploration music.
"Fallen Leaves" from Star Ocean 3 goes great for night-time in towns.
"Purge Thyself" fom Star Ocean 4 and "Ormus" from Xenosaga ep.1 go great for chapels.
"Life which Desires Death and Death which Desires Life" from Valkyrie Profile 2 is perfect for the arena.

Still haven't found antyhing suitable for caves and forts

For exploration music I've used a bunch of music from the band ...And You Will Know us By The Trail Of Dead (yes, the ellipsis is part of their name) Their music has a very grand, epic sound that matches Oblivion's vistas really well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsNhFT0hQyg and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5itgMTaJSo8 are good examples.

Just about anything by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiV9f1_PFHE&feature=related is fantastic as well.

Oblivion just isn't right anymore without Better Music System. :D

I second (or is that third) the Guild Wars soundtracks. The original and Factions seem to work the best for me. I have some from Morrowind too. The other thing that works are the songs from the defunct Daggerfall Music Project as well as the Daggerfall remixes linked from the DaggerXL forums. The winter ones, some of the exploration and tavern ones, as well as the dungeon ones are nice. My ayleid ruins sound awesome now.

I also used some of the packs from TESnexus. I forget which ones I grabbed. I tend to be picky and look for stuff that fits the atmosphere of the game well for me.

I did have one classic day where my brother popped into my Oblivion folder remotely through a network share and changed all my music. He noticed I was in a cave, so he left the dungeon music alone. He changed everything else, except for the title music. When I ran into a rat it started playing "Hold the Line" by Toto. I was shortly subjected to songs from Grease, several movies, Elvis, the Bee Gees, C&C Generals, and Lynard Skynard.

I'm gonna need to look for some better music. I might copy some Morrowind ones across, but I also have loads of Daggerfall music sitting somewhere.

I'm one of those who normally disables music for all but casual gaming, finding it an immersion-breaking distraction. Much to my surprise, I really enjoy the stock Oblivion soundtrack and never contemplated removing it. It complements the game well, and has the added benefit of not drawing attention to itself to the point of becoming obtrusive.

To this, I've added only a very few extras. One is the fairly well-known Oblivion Symphonic Variations, which I have somewhat missed feelings about but like well enough to keep for now. My favorite add-on is a collection of "Medieval" pieces (one of two sets from the same uploader, the other of which doesn't appeal to me) which, like the official music, I find both evocative and non-distracting. After using them for some time I now find it hard to differentiate between stock and "medieval".

An earlier contributer mentioned Everquest2 music. Since I played that game for a number of years (and maintain an account though am no longer active) I decided to give the individual selections a listen. I liked many of them very much, but in the end decided they are all too obtrusive. Still, a few are tempting.

Oh, this might be the place to ask something I've been curious above for some time, and hope it's not too off-topic. I like to keep my Oblivion music at a fairly low volume level. That's easily enough done for the most part, via option slider(s). However, there is one occasion where I find the music too loud, almost unbearably so. It's the very first music we hear, before the game-proper begins, the screen where the Bethesda Softworks logo slowly appears from a solid black background. I escape that screen as fast as I can, but after all this time it still iks me. Is there any sort of freeware music editing software that would let me reduce the volume of that file to better match the rest of the game? Or another means of doing so?

I think the menu music volume can be adjusted from the ini file; fMainMenuMusicVolume=0.6 line, try a lower number for that.

I use use Kage's EPIC OST overhaul (it's around 100 MB of music), tunes by Celestial Aeon, Adam Frechette, Michikawa and Matti Paalinen (search for "Ultimate Music Pack"), and Arabian Music Elsweyr, along with the stock tunes and some random dungeon music. You can find all of that on the Nexus.

...Vanguard...

Brash absolutely adores Vanguard's music. She falls asleep to it with her headphones on and listens to it when she surfs the web. It's her all-time favorite game music. ;)

I actually added a few german folk bands. For fights for example I just love to get in touch with this one:

Even though it's kinda hard to wait until it begins to fire up.
