Which older fallout game should I get?

I'm thinking about getting one of the older fallout games (not Fallout 3 or NV)

Which one was your favorite and which one do you think I should start off with? Why?

Edit: Also can I run the disk on windows 7?

Fallout 1 and 2 are pretty comparable to each other. Fallout 1 has better writing and better mood, and Fallout 2 is bigger (on all counts) and has a bit of a quirky way with humor. Both very good RPG's nonetheless. Fallout 2 is my choice if needing to pick the better one, but it might not be had I been able to have played the games in order back in the day.

They are both budget games (around five bucks a piece), but you have to seek out for retail copies for now because the digital ones have been pulled (for an undisclosed amount of time) due to the publishing rights having moved to Bethesda.

You should get all 3 of them for $19.99 from Steam. If you are from another country it will be less, because the our U.S. dollar loses value daily.

I just got mine from Steam like last month for $19.99. They are the latest updated versions. I know the free ones on GOG are gone, but I don't see why they are not still on Steam. They run fine on this old laptop I have that has windows Vista. I haven't looked to see if they are still for sale on Steam, but I would think they are.

I have disks of the originals and I've had some bugs but really the only problem will a colour glitch which there is a patch for.

You should play Fallout 1 first it's the first game in the series and it might be a little spoiler-ish playing 2 then 1 and 1 has by far the better main story/quest.

Fallout 2 is better but it's inconsistent in-terms of quality at times while Fallout 1 is a well refined shorter experience (still a big game with easily over 30 hours on a first playthrough).

From what I recall, to play on Windows 7+ you need to patch it to play as the game is a bit outdated and wasn't built with today's tech in mind. So in short, yes you can play it on Windows 7, but you'll need some kind of colour display patch IIRC.

Ok well I found Fallout 1, 2, and tactics on amazon for 15 dollars so I'm going to end up just getting them all I believe.

When I play the games will the patch be available as soon as I open the game and I simply download it or is there some other way to get patches on PC? Sorry if this is a noob question but I've never played on pc before thus these will be my first games.

If I get the patch somewhere else can someone link it so I can come back here for easy reference when I get the games.

Thanks :)
