Which one should come first? Old world Blues or Sierra Madre

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 10:06 am

Should they have made Old world blues before Sierra Madre? because there are loads of links between them both, such as the holotapes about christine talking to Ulysses, they should have given the characters from previous dlc an appearence in the new ones.

does it really matter what came first considering they are both out and characters appearance depends there use on the story, would dog/god made OWB or Lonesome Road any better? Christine is better as a reference in a few items and holotapes in OWB and allows a good introduction for Ulysses

Nah, I like the idea that I do Dead Money, then come across it later and solve the mystery of it all!

I do OWB before LR because OWB does a good job of introducing the "other courier." In HH he is only mentioned.

Also, does anyone else think that HH was meant to be the first DLC? It doesn't really introduce much about the other DLCs. Except for a little mention. It has more to do with the main storyline concerning Caesar. Also it is much easier than the others.

Honest Hearts is the odd one out because it was developed by Josh Sawyer and not Chris Avellone who developed the other 3 main DLCs

that could explain it.

I did OWB before DM this time. But I think you could do it either way. In OWB you get a number of references to Elijah and Christine, not to mention Ulysses. It's also significantly easier. But I think Dead Money introduces Elijah and Christine better, and the OWB stuff about them works better if you know exactly who they are. And since there's quite a bit more about Ulysses in OWB, doing DM then OWB gives a nice natural escalation towards your meeting Ulysses. And then there's that line in the ending slides about only having one more road to walk alone, which suggests that OWB is supposed to be the penultimate DLC.

Actually Ulysses has a lot to do with the story of Honest Hearts.
Spoiler
He was the Legion Frumentarii who trained the White Legs and made them destroy New Canaan. Finding one of his tapes in the Divide explains this.

No, all of the references to Dead Money in Old World Blues are there to show the player how things they were told in the previous DLC played out, someone who hadn't played Dead Money beforehand wouldn't care about them when they initially stumble across them.

Honest Hearts->Old World Blues->Dead Money-> Lonesome Road.

That's how I almost always order them when I play them.

The chronological order is

Dead Money -> Old World Blues -> Lonesome Road.

Honest Hearts can be placed anywhere before Lonesome Road.

At the end of OWB it says the courier only has one more road to travel. And he has to do it on his own. It seems that OWB must come before LR and LR has to be the last.

As the DLCs went on they introduced more and more information and it made my curiosity grow more and more to the point where, when I was listening to the holotapes of Ulysses and Christine in Old World Blues, I had a burning desire for more information. I don't think it would have played out that way had they done them in any order but Honest Hearts>Dead Money>Old World Blues>Lonesome Road. The build up was great.

Eh, all depends on how you want to view the information. I mean Dead Money -> Honest Hearts -> Old World Blues -> Lonesome Road makes sense, in terms of information about Ulysses.

However; I find that playing it in the order of: HH -> OWB -> DM -> LR; makes things fall into place a lot better.

This^ pretty much sums up my opinion, I'd just add that on your first playthrough of the DLCs, the order of release is probably best. On other playthroughs, the second order that Ruin mentioned is best (imo).

I play it the same way. I always want to get HH out of the way first because it's my least favorite and ties into the DLC story the least.

Ah, thought I was forgetting something. Thanks for touching on that Tycho. :)

Agreed, I still enjoy it, however. I just find the evidence that Ulysses was present is less in-your-face, than the other DLC so it's a great starting point.

I do Sierra Madre first for one reason...Holorifle+++.

That bad boy loaded with MC-MFCs is critical for me not getting hammered in both OWB and LR.
