Which perks will you focus on?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:55 am

In descending order of importance, list the ten (exactly 10, no more) perk types you'll invest in the most straight from the offset of the game (for your main character).

  • Sword perks
  • Light armor perks
  • Fire spell perks
  • Alteration perks that affect the barrier spells (specifically the one that bolsters your armor)
  • Weapon-blocking perks
  • Dual-wield perks (if there are any)
  • Smithing perks that affect reapairs
  • Enchanting perks that affect recharging
  • Shock spell perks
  • Crafting perks (Smithing and Enchanting)

Depends on what type of character. I'm not going with stealth perks on my warrior just like I won't do Claymore perks on a mage.

Edit: I usually hate when people quote the OP, especially on the same page. To catch myself doing it... for shame.

Conjuration, illusion, enchant, alteration, restoration, destruction. I will complete each star constellation in that order.

Axe perks, or War axe perks. I'm undecided if my Nord is going to have a shield and a axe, or just a massive War axe. I'll pick some blocking or heavy armour perks as well, but my focus will be an my axe.

A pure mage, huh? It's easy to understand why Conjuration and Illusion come first

I tend to play stealthy / archer /assassin types, so you're list is a bit incomplete for me.

Of the ones you mention, I'd take alteration and, I guess, light armour.

I'm obviously keen to explore the perk tree for bows, sneaking and probably unarmed

I listed what perks I'll focus on, not a list to select from (in that case I would've made a poll).

Depends on my character.
Well....i'll make an archer...assassin/ranger type..right from the off...always do. :)
As for perks...well whatever goes with my type.
Would be better if we knew the perks though...or at least a few more :)

Ooooooooooo I like this question.

Obviously it will be multiple playthroughs, but for the first time around and with the more I hear about the game, I've really been beginning to shape my first character in my mind.

A little backstory first. Some of my most enjoyable times playing Oblivion, were when I would set out on foot with an axe and a bow, with no real purpose in mind, and just explore the countryside, in a nomadic woodsman/hunter style, deliberately avoiding major cities for long stretches at a time. I would seek out a campsite in the middle of nowhere, and then use it as a temporary home while I cleared out the nearby ruins and caves. I would live off the land by hunting deer or boar and collect herbs for potions and poisons, as any good woodsman would be knowledgeable about a variety of plant and fungal life. Once that area's dungeons were thoroughly explored, I would stash away the useful and valuable loot I'd acquired in any well-concealed, nearby chests I could find(pointless...I know, but done more for roleplay's sake and of course my character's peace of mind, that that hard-earned loot would still be there when he returned). Once it was hidden away, I would move on, repeating the process again and again as I carved a trail across Cyrodiil, often commanding creatures as companions, along the way . So Skyrim has me excited, because that style of gameplay seems to be one aspect that they're trying to flesh out just a little bit more, what with the new woodcutting(whatever that could entail) and cooking, maybe even the possibility of being able to start a fire or dropping a portable bedroll somewhere to sleep(here's hoping)

Anyway, sorry...got a little side-tracked there. Here's my 10 right now since we still know so little:

Start with the standard woodsman's weaponry

-Archery(specifically rate of fire perks)
-Waraxe perks
-Dagger perks
-light armor perks
-Sneak perks
-alchemy perks
-illusion command creature perks
-weapons blocking perks
-whatever acrobatics/atheletics has become perks
-smithing(repair perks)

Ill likely put most of my first 5-6 perks into destruction and conjuration if they dont screw it up. I plan to have some perks in alchemy and restoration and enchant before level 20 tho.

Considering we don't really know what the perks are going to be except for a few examples for certain skills I can't really answer.

However, the skills I will focus on, and most likely get perks for are:

Sneak, One-Handed -swords-, Light Armor, Alchemy, Smithing, Alteration, Illusion, and maybe some Conjuration and Destruction.

I'm most interested in the Wizard Hat perk. The one that makes my Wizard Hat extra sixy. When enemies see my Wizard Hat, they turn and run.
But on a more serious note, I'll be taking the Wizard Hat perk.

I have my heart set on my Thor character, so I'll be investing heavily in Hammers and Light Armor and Destruction.

But for Character number two I'm thinking of being a Dark Elf Lady Asassin type character;

Bows
Swords/Daggers
Stealth

That will be the focus on her.

Depends on how perks are handled. Hopefully the majority of them do not fallout fallout 3 perks.

If they are all generic passive ability perks I will be very disappointed. Perks should be unique ability modifiers that represent a tangible change to your character. FO3 I found myself taking "cannibal" and "mister sandman" and all other unique perks just to try and have my survivor stand out a bit more rather than level spamming "Toughness" and 'Cyborg". Bleh... boring perks.

It'll be a real challenge to first create a Battlemage with Restoration (a War Medic maybe? combining Combat -Magic and physical- plus Restoration seems to be the most fitting definition), which is my preferred class, so depending of how is the game, I'll maybe drop either Restoration or Destruction, and center in dual wield combat + heavy armor + one of those two magical abilities.

That's kind of what I do as well. Though I use cities and civilized settlements as bases of operation. I keep only the really rare stuff to bring over to my home (it was Rosethorn hall in Skingrad in Oblivion), sell the rest on site.

I'm most interested in the Wizard Hat perk. The one that makes my Wizard Hat extra sixy. When enemies see my Wizard Hat, they turn and run. But on a more serious note, I'll be taking the Wizard Hat perk.

I've been putting a lot of thought into my future avatar, but it is hard to hammer out the details since we know so little about the skills and perks right now. But here's the skills I assume I will be focusing on the most, and any associated perks that will enhance my playstyle.

Dark Elf Assassin
Sneak (Stealth and dagger perks)
One Handed (Blades and Duel Wielding perks)
Marksmen
Light Armor
Block
Illusion (Invisibility perks)
Alchemy (Poison perks)
Smithing
Althetics/Acrobatics (Assuming they are merged)

but of course that is just my first character. My second playthrough will probably be a pure mage or possibly a Spellsword.

considering I only reach the soft-cap, and only 50 perk choices

i'd try to max these or put around 10 in each to be great at them.

Destruction - lightening based
Alteration - shield/absorb based
Restoration - self healing
Heavy Armor - perks that help reduce speed/magic penalties
Enchanting - enchanting armor

I need to see the skills and perks before I decide, but I'm hoping for some kind of Bosmer/Nord Huntress, using a bow as main weapon, based on a lot of survival, nature, stalking, and barter skills. Probably some simple alchemy (healing and poisons) and crafting (arrows) as well. If I use a horse, I'm easier to spot, but have a greater chance of evasion. If I also have a cart, I may carry a lot more loot, but I suffer in speed.
