The Hippopotamus is the 3rd largest animal after elephants and rhinos. There are 2 species of hippo. The large or common hippo (Hippopotamus amphibius), is found in East Africa, south of the Sahara. The pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis) comes from West Africa, and is rare. The common hippo can be 13 feet long and 5 feet tall, weighing up to 3 ? tons (7000 pounds). The pygmy only weighs 440 to 600 pounds and is 4.9 to 5.7 feet long. Not as much is known about the pygmy hippo.

With no sweat glands, hippos keep cool in the water or in mud. But they do secrete a red fluid that helps them avoid sunburn. While most of its body is underwater, a hippo can hear, see, and breathe, since its eyes, ears, and nostrils are on the top of its head and nose. When completely underwater, its nose and ears close automatically.

Hippos live in herds of 10 to 30. The dominant male can mate will all the females in the herd. If challenged, a male hippopotamus will fight using its long canine tusks. These teeth can grow a foot long.

A hippopotamus is born underwater. The mother helps her baby to the surface to breathe. Hippos bear single young. Calves weigh 55 to 120 pounds and nurse underwater. Mother hippos protect them from lions, leopards, crocodiles and male hippos. Sometimes calves will rest on their mother’s back.

Hippos mature at an average age of 7 (males) to 9 (females) years and have a life expectancy of about 45 years. On top they are brownish gray and underneath pinkish. Hippos have good sight, sense of smell, and hearing.

The name hippopotamus comes from 2 Greek words that mean river horse. These animals are aggressive and not afraid of people.

A dog is definitely the most effective and space efficient.

It has been dogmeat from day one.

I never cared for Dogmeat much but Fable 2 made me love having a in-game dog companion.

I want Bessie. Come on, you're out in the wilderness, struggling with half a ton of stolen weapons and power armor.. you pass some guy "hey there, how much for your Brahmin?", load it up, bingo.

Getting the Pack Brahmin mod in FO3 was the best (and most logical, storywise) thing I ever did.

Now lets think about this.

A Hippo would just be far too slow. Sure it could carry alot of stuff, but its still too slow. They also don't have sweat glands so need water and mud to keep cool. It's hot in Vegas, there is not much water and not alot of mud.

A Lion would be very difficult to tame, would be very lazy and eat you when it gets fed up of Mirelurk cakes.

YOUR Mum. Now this was a difficult one. After LOTS of thought the answer is clearly no. She would be more high maintenance than any of the rest, and lets face it, EVERYONE in the Wasteland would want a go on her. :hubbahubba:

A Bear would also be very difficult to tame, and I would not like to keep one in chains.

Chuck Norris. Seriously? As a pet? He would kick your ass, everyone elses ass, and then destroy the Wasteland even more. Using the fist hidden in his beard.

Polar Bear. Any Ice that I do find would be for my Whiskey and Nuka Cola, not the Polar Bear.

So the answer is obviously a dog. For two meals a day and alot of walking, you have a friend for life. A dog will protect you, keep you company, help you find buried stuff, track prey and has incredible hearing and good sense of smell.

Hippo every time. And as for the cons Blacknred noted, it's a mutated hippo, so ner If I had one I could sing the hippo song from Hugo the Hippo (a little known Hungarian cartoon which was dubbed in English by the Osmonds - it ROCKS :rock: ).
