Which plant species would you like to see in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Nov 13, 2010 3:06 pm

So i did a search to see if anyone talked about this and "0" topics came up so i decided to start this.

I love plants, i have my own garden and all of that, what plants would you like to see return from the previous games?

I liked the Aloe Vera and night shade, and alot of the plants in The Shivering isles.

What plants would you like to see added? Removed?

Lets talk

I would actually like to see some sun flowers because I just generally can picture them in someones front garden overlooking a big stone wall. It would be kind of welcoming.
I'm no expert on plants so I have no idea if they could grow it Skyrim's climate. It's not always cold though is it?

Well, it was my understanding from the interveiws that theres different climate settings in Skyrim not just cold, so i think Skyrim could accomodate a wide variety of plants.

Thanks for your valued point of view that really helps the cause of this topic (it was a bit funny though). Plants are more interesting than spears or windmill sails. Fo' shizzle.

Well I don't think it's mundane, I've actually been wondering about whether we'll see any new harvestable plants. I've always enjoyed alchemy and collecting plant samples to liven up my houses and would love to see a large variety and some new ones.

A world with no plants seems the most mundane thing to me. Even if it is depicted as the opposite of the tropical environment where most interesting plants thrive, skyrim should really notch up visual relevance and not just variety of plants and flowers, battling a dragon in a massive field sown with bluebell's? count me in.

Would be interesting to see a larger variety plants. Not that Oblivion didn't have enough plants, but more definitely wouldn't hurt.

Oh, and trees. I'd like to see a few really tall and really wide trees. Most trees in Oblivion seemed to be of similar width. Annoyed me.

Theres a thread about the new software they will be using for the trees. and i saw some videos on the website and it looked very promising. Like they can build trees in any shape or style they want with just a few clicks, its cool.

The current vegetation is diverse enough for the given regions. While basing a game off reality isn't a wise idea, following logic is.

I liked the amount of different plants in Oblivion. Now I don't necessarily see them all coming back in Skyrim, I would like to see some stuff from OB like aloe vera and wormwood with some new additions to make it about the same count. But I definately wouldn't object to more just as long as they don't become too far and few between

I'm looking forward to a greater variety of tree sizes/shapes. I love a good forest to run around in, especially with snow, and the more believable it can look, the more fun to be had. I already have an idea for a mod involving a tree...

this may be unrelated but I would like to see real farms, all the food in oblivion was farmed on what was probably less than 3 acres, where did all the cheese and apples come from if there were only three heads of livestock and not a single orchard to speak of?

But I digress, I thought the premise they had in oblivion in trying to create organic biomes in which you could find only particular plants was a great step in the right direction, but I felt that it became rather cold equals only these three plants are around, I'd like to see some more variety, but that doesn't mean we need twenty cold plants that are all alchemical ingredients...I don't think anyone needs 300 plants that all can only do 20 different buffs or effects.

On a side note, I can't believe I never thought of sunflowers, they would look really nice with Skyrm's new engine

We need plants that grow in northern cold climates. LIke Labrador tea or wild camomille tea, sweet peas, monkshood, Siberian daisies, lingonberries, blueberries, fireweed, devil's club, columbine, bluebells. Vegetables such as kohlrabi and giant cabages, broccoli. Trees such as white and black spruce, white paper birch, aspen/poplar and willow...maybe some cottenwood.

I guess I could name arctic plants all day long. I will spare you the boredom.

I think anything you could find in Canada would work in Skyrim. My knowledge of Canadian flora is not very high so I cant give any examples.

Well according to demo we still can harvest plants but interesting harvesting work like in vanilla Oblivion or more like in http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2037 mod so we can visually see thats plant was harvested without need of open plant container?

About gardening since there will be more NPC schedules thats will more likely happen in game interesting will be it again something similar to Oblivion work with hoe idle animations or something like this

As well since NPC jobs available for %PCname ther is great possibility to see some features similar to
Complete Gardening

Love the idea of gardening/farming: alchemy was one of the fun bits of MW/OB - not to mention a good money spinner.

Being able to set up a specific herb garden would be cool, preferably next to whatever house we buy. In MW at the end of the individual House quests you got an estate/manor house - maybe we could get the same sort of thing in Skyrim with garden/farm attached?
