So which platform is best

Well I've been playing on X=Box but was wondering if others out there had tried multiple platforms and if so what did you feel was better the consoles or the pc's?

For Oblivion, I think it's pretty much cemented that it goes PC (decent PC, anyway)>PS3>Xbox 360.

With the PC version, hardware varies so it's difficult to pinpoint exact capabilities, but depending on one's hardware, one could crank up all the settings to high, play the game at a 1080p resolution, and do it all at 60 fps... perhaps even with some nice graphical mods. The PS3 version follows it with it's full 720p (HD) resolution, noticeably shorter load times, a farther draw distance, and better texture filtering than the 360 version. The 360 version runs at a sub-HD resolution (600p). So, both performance-wise and graphically, a decent PC running the PC version will beat the PS3 version which will, in turn, beat the 360 version.

PCs will always be better then the consoles graphics wise and performance wise if you have decent hardware. The consoles are running on 6 year old hardware, PCs have come a long ways since then. (Dont get me wrong, I have two 360's in this house, they are just used as media clients mainly though)

On the contrary, the 360 does not output at 1080p. For most games, it outputs at only 720p, but in Oblivion's case, it is at 600p (1024x600). Few games (only those short arcade titles on the marketplace or the occasional sports game) output at 1080p, they simply upscale to 1080p... which doesn't make the image quality look any better. All that does is stretch the resolution to fit the screen it's on. It's really quite a clever ploy to make consumers think their games look better than they really do, but 1080p support (as is labeled on the back of the Oblivion case) only really means the game supports the use of 1080p TVs (hence using up the entire screen), not that the game runs at 1080p or really looks any better.

If we are talking game content, the order is:

1. PC (for mods + DLC)
2. Xbox 360 (for all DLC)
3. PS3 (Only KotN and SI)

PS3 loses there due to the obvious lack of DLC content that Bethesda never bothered to allow them to purchase.

For graphics capability, the order is:

1. PC (for highly customisable graphics options, AA, AF, hi-res, etc.)
2. PS3 (best resolution available on consoles)
3. Xbox 360 (Mostly runs 1080p in a compatibility mode. Natively, the resolution only goes up to 720p for most games)

PC wins on both fronts, but due to the investment requirement (in money and time), it is definitely not for everyone.

PC will always be the best for these games. There are player-made mods out there that can literally transform the game and add so much content, not to mention fixes.
