Altmer are the best race of all because they are descended from Auri-El/Akatosh. People fail to recognize their superiority and that's what will bring the downfall of the other, non-Mer races.

They're not descended from Auri-El or Akatosh specifically. They're descended from Aldmer, who believe they're descended from Aedra. The nine divines aren't the only Aedra.
Any race is as equipped as the others to become a "hero". Story-friendly, though, elven races don't really fit into Skyrim as "heroes", more anti-heroes, especially the Altmer.
I use an Argonian and feel they are very well rounded characters for all types of combat/skills.
I can't fully agree with the Altmer being the best race because the Redguards fought them to a standstill in Hammerfell , and no one has mentioned the Redguards yet
After the Altmer just finished invading Cyrodiil.
I can just sense a pending civil war debate now... My point was: Altmer have more time to practice things and their natural height and magic to augment their combat skills can produce very effective warriors. Not as physically strong perhaps, but raw strength isn't everything.
Again, it's all up to the individual. Don't let race stereo-types dictate.
Redguards are clearly one of the most badass races there is. These fools fought eachother to see who would lead the charge against the left handed elves. And somewhere in that battle, either during or after, these guys sunk their friggin continent. With a sword. They are on my top three along with nords and dunmer.
I'm going to lead the attack!
Nu uh! I AM!
Hey, go sword-sing yourself!
*war*
The Left-handers: whew... we have a little more time to prepare before... *nuclear explosion*
Redguards are my personal favorite. I do like the Altmer and I wasn't implying that they aren't amongst the upper tier of TES races, I just was bringing up that they , with all their magical abilities, were beaten back by a human race that relied more on military tactics than anything
Yes but that's because the Altmer had just undergone a very costly war in Cyrodiil, not to say that the Redguard weren't weakened as well from the war. At any rate, all the Altmer have to do to win (or at least outlast the other side) the next Great War is to invest most of their military budget into their navy. If they can improve their navy even better than it already is, they will be impenetrable. Just like Great Britain in the early 19th century, Napoleon couldn't even land on the dang island after several tries.
That wouldn't do anything for winning, as navies cant march up on land.
I agree, I mean some of the provinces have key cities that are some ways inland, how does the navy get to those?
I didn't say they should only invest in their navy, I said they should mainly invest in their navy. If you have a superior navy then the enemy will have little or no chance of even landing. I do understand that a balanced army is key in winning a war, but in some cases it doesn't hurt if one branch of the military outnumbers the others, as long as it ensures security in the homeland.
I see what you're saying because the Altmer have a homeland that a strong navy could completely protect. And about the Bretons, they are skilled for magic but 25% magic resistance only helps you if you're fighting the races that use a fair amount of magic. Guess it's a good thing the Bretons had an alliance with Orcs and Redguards then, keep the non magic users friendly haha
Security in the homeland does squat for invasion on a mostly landlocked territory. Investing even more on a navy when they already have a powerful navy is silly when their goal is to take over territory. They'd have a strong navy and a weak army. The only thing that would let them do is play turtle in Alinor.
Personally I see Bretons, Imperials, Dunmer, and Argonians as the well-rounded adventurer type.
Skyrim seems to have added Redguards to the list because of their sudden bonus to Destruction magic.
Either way, I don't really see anything stopping you from using any race as a "Perfect" hero. Racial stats were the only thing that made it difficult and those don't really exist anymore.

Why?
Becuz devoted fan bias.
EDIT: The forum automatically changed my post. I had no idea that was possible.
The one that I've seen a few times now throughout the post has been Argonians. But yes , homeland security only matters if the homeland is in danger, and I doubt that the Summerset Isles are worried about any .. say, Dunmer storming their shores
Err.... none? Race has nothing to do with being heroic.
If you mean racial benefits, choose whatever helps you in combat.
Well I tired of my Redguard for now (the Alduin's Bane glitch helped with that) so I went back to progressing my Dunmer mage, not sure if I should go vampire or not yet though
