Which race for a Dutch character?

Post » Tue Aug 27, 2013 2:32 am

Not literally Dutch, but inspired on the Dutch. Now I'm not sure if I will end up making him, but I'm thinking about it.

I'm digging the idea of making a character that looks like me. And for one, I'm Dutch. So yeah.

My real name's Ferry, however I think I'd make the name ''Ferdinand'' so that it sounds more medieval.

But what race? I think that the Nords would do, as the Dutch are statistically the tallest people in the world and have a Germanic ancestry. But I'm not sure.

Maybe, yeah.

I also considered Imperial for a little moment, because of the 17th century where Dutch were one of the, if not the most wealthiest and powerful people. But Imperials seem to have more of a roman theme, so probably not.

If you want to consider culture then Nord is your best choice, i'm pretty sure the Scadinavians/Vikings are in relation to dutch. I could be wrong though xD

They live close, so they probably visited the Netherlands quite often. Vikings did settle down in the areas they sailed to.

Nord's probably the best. Germanics have similar gods.

''Odin'' being called ''Wodan'', for example.

I think you have to go for Nord.

Bretons are short and I always see them as Gallic.

The Imperials are swarthy and Mediterranean.

"Everything is for sale my friend, everything! If I had a sister, I'd sell her in a second!"

Belethor is the most Dutch of all the NPCs.

So I say Breton, just because of Belethor.

Now that I found out, the name Ferdinand is actually composed of the elements frith ''protection'' and nanth ''courage''.

So it's sort of a name that fits a Nord. :D

Definitely a nord. I'd go for Breton if I was looking for an Irish or Scottish themed character.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention, being an Imperial could work for British or Italian themed characters, since of course the Romans invaded and occupied Britain for many years

Aye. Nord it is after all.

I might become a vampire aswell, to get along with that elegant 17th century idea.
