Which race lives longest?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 7:46 am

Divyath Fir isn't the only telvani lord whith an extended life - Gothren and Therana aren't exactly youngsters, and neither is Baladas (the village was built around his tower...). Aryon seems to be a young upstart, if not a svckling babe, when compared with the other lords. It seems all telvanis mage-lorsd beyond a certain rank have access to life-extending magics. That's a widely know fact about House Telvani. Divyath isn't currently invovled in the House's business, but he had a loooong time to have been involved in the past - even if he dropped for the House's affairs three millenis ago, he still had one thousand years to do it...

Maybe Divyath has improved upon the recipe by mixing it with some psijic, but my bet is that he's using the same kind of methods as the other mage-lords.

Barenziah extended her life by means of her magical prowess. It's possible that, to an extent, simply being adept in magic will extend your life. Although you do still need to actively put effort into extending your life to reach into the thousands.

I remember reading about dwemer preservation enchantments, and why thousands of year old books haven't rotted and why thier facilities and RoboCops haven't rusted over. Mabye his research led him into something like this.

I personally think it's the Psijic Orders trainging, actually, I don't know. All three variables should be taken into account.

It's stated that his research on Corprus specifically is what enabled him to develop the technique to make his "daughters" "from his own flesh."

If he's able to grow a living Mer with its own mind from his flesh, then constantly regenerating and unaging his flesh should be a simple matter.

WHAT? 1000 years? I seem to remember an Altmer in the Cheydinhal mages guild saying that they have quite long lives but I would never have thought it would be more than 120 years...

elves in some games are immortal to age, but can be killed by spell or sword. in general, elves, or 'mer' in this case, live for a very very long time.

Or by Sorrow. But in this case Mer or Elves (depending on what you wish to call them) they actually die of age as any other race.

That research is relatively recent though, so it doesn't explain his longevity.

Okay so I guess my predecessors here on this topic has at least most of the races covered, but what about Necromancy and it's life-prolonging abilities? How long can a Lich live for instance, or how long can a Zombie ?live? before it rots or something? And vampires for that matter; the vampire guy in the Cheydinhal DB sanctuary in Oblivion said something about not worrying about something (can't rememeber) at least for a few centuries. Are vampires immortal or do they die of age as well? Is the race of the vampire a factor? Eg. does an Imperial vampire live for, say, 500 years while an Altmer one would live for 1000 years? And what about lycantrophes? Sorry if this is a lot but I saw this thread and became curious ;)

Vampires, I'd assume can live as long as they'd want to, not including of course the variable of murder. Zombies I'm betting don't last very long; perhaps as long as their masters allow (not I'm excluding Bonewalkers, who I'd assume use a great deal more magic). Lichs, seeing as they're already pretty decomposed to bones AND magically competent, can live as long as their magical skills will let them. They don't have to worry about rot as zombies would. Concerning Necromancy, go consult the Telvanni.

Take the fact that I'm using speculation as a hint that the objective answer doesn't/more than likely doesn't exist.

I'm going to guess that Khajiit live to be around 120-150 with out magical means and if the avoid getting stabbed. I'm basing this on how long a cat in our world would be when it turns twenty and I heard that their years where around six and a half to five and a half so reverse that for a humanoid and there you have it. But as I said it is an assumption and not based on any lore or what have you.

It's said the beast races usually live the shortest amount of time. The 120-150 years is more a well-heeled Dunmer timespan. And I mean well-heeled. Not a pauper but a noble with access to the best potions and castle mages. Most Khajiit probably don't live to see their 75th birthday and that's a stretch. Of course, powerful sorcerers and mystics appear in every race who can extend their lifespans far beyond the normal limits but these are exceptional individuals.

I think it is the orcs who have the shortest life span, going only to around their 40s. Khajiit are probably around their 60s. Argonians I'd assume longer than humans, but not as long as elves. Or maybe just as long. There really is not too much information on argonians in general though  . But, Altmer>Dunmer>Bosmer in terms of NORMAL life span, excluding magical and vampirical means

Well yep. I think most of us would agree on that.

Question is, do Bretons live longer or shorter lives than Bosmer? Bretons are closer to "pure elves" than Bosmer are IMO, at least when it comes to the amount of latent magical energies in their bodies. Aren't they descended from Aldmer and Nedes? Aldmer may have possibly been an even more "pure" strain of Elves than the Altmer. It's unclear how "watered down" the Human blood made their lifespan, though.

Why wouldn't be Kothringi instead of Nedes? Maybe both?

I hate to say my Mannish history is a bit rusty right now, but I thought I remember Kothringi being around High Rock, too.

Well, if he hadn't been that long-lived, he wouldn't have been able to do that research, right? Problem solved.

I think a healthy Breton can live to 100, which is around an average bosmer. Maybe a little less?

Since we're using real world references, a healthy man can live to 100. Recall that Bretons are half Elvish; I'm sure their average is higher than the "healthy" standard of normal men.

I was assuming your average imperial and nord was to around 70, bretons more like 90ish or high 80s
