Which race needs a redesign now?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:30 pm

Pretty simple question. Which race needs a redesign? I think elven races look worse than ever before. They look like aliens with huge, jet black eyes and skinny face with a 10 feet chin. Bethesda really dropped the ball on them. Good thing is all other races look much better. I was a bit disappointed by the female Argonian looks though, they looked better in presets and previews.

Redesign in look? I'd choose high elf. But it's possible to make high elves look great too.

The elves look good, I like that they're not typical LoTR ripoffs.

I think they're fantastic and have no complaints about any of them, especially the elves. Bosmer look properly fey and feral, exactly as (I think) they should; Altmer appear gaunt, haughty and alien; Dunmer look dusty and exotic, much closer to their Morrowind counterparts; and Orsimer look like proper orcs, rather than green humans with pointy teeth as they did in Oblivion.

The human races look rugged and convincingly represent their real-world inspirations (Breton = English, Nord = Scandinavian, Imperial = Mediterranean, Redguard = African), while Argonians and Khajiits are possibly the best beastmen I've seen in any game.

I guess this is a matter of taste. While in Oblivion everyone really looked like slightly overweight sixual offenders in face, I found Skyrim Elves the best elf design I have ever seen in my life, literally. Dark Elf finally looks like someone you don't want to [censored] around with.

Argonians finally look like people who live in marshes.

But maybe that's just me. I don't think any race needs a redesign, they all look great, and fit in Skyrim the best way they could.

Out of the things I feel were done wrong in Skyrim this is not one of them. The races are brilliant and I'm really fond of the changes.

Edit: The poster below does have a point though but generally speaking it's not too bad, it was easier to see just what race an NPC was at a first glance in the last two games though.

Bretons, Imperials, and Nords need to have a bit more distinct features to set them apart.

Breton, I know they're human and all but I can't tell the difference between them and Imperials.

They are all white humans. Why should it be easier to tell them apart than it is to tell a Scandinavian from an Italian?
I'm happy with the look of the various races especially Orcs and the Beast Races.

It would be great if the dunmer and bosmer didn't ALL look so sickly, but overall Skyrim's take on the races is my favorite so far.

I think the elves look fantastic, especially the Altmer and Dunmer. I love the look of all the races in Skyrim, Id say the best so far.

The only race that could do with an overhaul is the Breton

The elves look far less inhuman than they did in Oblivion. Their skull structure in Oblivion made it look like their mother ate a spoonful of lead paint every day while they were in the womb and washed it down with a fifth of Jack and a pack of cigarettes. Of course, everybody looked like that in Oblivion.

Dude, did you see the elves in Morrowind?

As for Oblivion, back then people complained that they looked too human.

They're all damn good so I didn't vote. The one thing I will say though, is that I think the Human races should be easier to tell apart. With the exception of Redguards (for obvious reasons) they look pretty much alike.

The elven presets look awful, but the CC allows you to create decent looking elves with normal chins. Only problem is their eyes, which have no white. I'm sure there's a mod for that already.

Elves aren't supposed to look human. That is why they're a non-human race. For god's sake! :shakehead:

I know. It drives me nuts when people claim they are ugly and don't look human enough.

I've been quiet pleased with the general appearance, though I'm sure mods are already making massive strides and will do alot more once the CK is out.
However it would be nice if/when there is a big improvement to racial recognition between the races.
Sometimes it's just too generic and way off base when talking to other races.
It might just be an optimistic memory but I almost feel like morrowind and oblivion did it better with how some races favoured the players race better than others and it effect storyline and quest more.
I'm really not seeing that very much in skyrim.

Even though there is a lot of "pvssyr" about the bitter talk of the different races and the relatively recent wars.
That talk, rarely trickles down into action or quest differences. Racial based behaviour to me was something I'd expect with alot of the different characters I played, but It's just not occuring very often if at all.
Sometimes it's not occuring when it should be the most obvious to put in.
For example; A player being high elf is still consider just as much as scum as any other race in front of a thalmor, even though he or she is a high elf too.

It's those little things that build immersion, where sometimes, you have to go to another NPC for a quest, because that particular Khajiit NPC, only helps other Khajiit unless you do alot more to prove yourself, than a Khajiit would need to.

Bretons are the human descendants of the Aldmeri-Nedic Manmer of the Merethic Era and are now the inhabitants of the province of High Rock... ... Bretons appear, by and large, much like other pale-skinned humans.

In earlier games I would have said orc and redguard. In oblivion the orc looked like shrek and the redguard looked like a guy who does bodypopping. Not now though. Especially the orc. Totally wicked.

I think all of the races are in a good place now, especially the Mer, who ought to look like a different species than Men. They also nailed Khajiits and Orcs this time. I'd say along with Altmer, these are the three that most improved from Oblivion.

Redesign no, but add a lot more choice is needed : more eyes, hair, color, height/weight, to be able to modify the entire body (size of arms/legs, tatoo, scars, body hair.......).
