Which Shalk armor do you prefer?

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 5:10 am

Hey there,

I am debating about which armor to use in a mod and I can decided which one I like best! I dont want to use both, only one. I am leaning more towards Shalk Lite as it seems to be more lore friendly but I cant decide! So I thought I would put it too the poll.

The two armors are as follows:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1645 - http://www.morrowind-mod.com/imagesmr/Dar/ArmorComplete.jpg

Description: This plugin adds a suit of Shalk Armor, a black heavy armor made from the shells of the large Shalk Beetles of Morrowind

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5303 - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=40885

Description: A light armor mod adding a dark chitin-type armor for theives and assasins.

So which one would you rather see?
Jsut to give it some context the armor will be used in an ashlander mod, where an ashlander makes and sells this armor. It will be unique to that ashlander tribe.

i would say the light armor mod since it would seem to me that ashlanders would use light armor rather than heavy armor.

Well, I like the look of the first one, but the lighter armor seems to make more sense.....so I guess I'd have to vote for the sensical option despite prefering the look of the nonsensical! :P

Agreed. And it would make more sense for the shells to be Light (or Medium.)

But the Heavy stuff looks great. I think the Light might need a bit of an update, and a helm would be nice.

The light version is definitely better, and should probably be the one in use among the ashlanders in question. You could include the heavy armour as a special "forge on request" armour though.

I think Melchior was working on a helmet for it for his "Of Ash and Blight" WIP.

I like the look of the first one more, but the second one is more suited for ashlanders... It depends tho... They could also have an art in crafting heavy equipment. ^_^

I could have the heavy armor as a sort of bonus/extra but the use of shalk armor was suposed to be the extra/bonus. Bascially I dont want to use both!

I agree the lite armor does need a helm. I might PM melchoir about that...

Give the player the - in-game - opportunity to chose between the two different sets. That way, both light and heavy armour users could benefit from the feature.

I love the look of the heavy armor, but the light armor makes more sense for "nomadic" Ashlanders. :)

As a whole the black Shalk Armor is way better but it's an heavy armor and remind me more of an imperial forged armor then an hand-crafted with insect light armor. so I've voted Lite Armor.

Personally I think a black retexture of Melchior's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7140 with a matching black Redoran Watchman's Helm could make a wonderful shalk armor.

This.

I like the look of the heavy armor, but it doesn't seem like shalk shell to me. If I were to name it off of looks, I would probably have called it just a different kind of iron.

I WAS kind of leaning towards neither myself but decided to have a second look . Its Lite by a pinch and a whisker . I remember seeing the first one in Fligs Armor Project and being less than impressed , the second is at least closer to what I'd expect Ashlanders to make and even then its a little too " encasing " if you catch my drift . Anyway , maybe the armor is made from a process that uses the Shalk Resin as opposed to the shell .....I'm wandering . I'll shut up .....

Both the shalk armour and the chitin armour are made of chitin, so I can't say I see a problem with the two using the same meshes, especially since the shalk armour is textured in a way which makes it look different from regular chitin in more ways than just colour.

This is what I thought lol.

Well looks light I am going with the lite armor.

The lite Shalk armour looks like it might have been manufactured from Shalk chitin.

I like the Shalk Lite. I like it for lore reasons (LORE above all else!!), but I disapprove of the way both armors look. The first armor looks like it is made out of steel and the second armor looks like chitin spray-painted black.
