Which smithing perk affects leather upgrading?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 5:10 pm

I picked Elven smithing since I am wearing light armor on my thief. Only recently I joined the thieves guild and got a set of armor that is just as good as the elven armor once upgraded (I had both leather and elven upgraded to superior). After learning Elven smithing I can upgrade Elven armor to (Flawless). But I still can't upgrade the Leather higher than (Superior) ... what gives?

Do I need dwarven smithing in order to upgrade leather further? Kinda stinks dumping points into heavy armor perks when I won't be using it...

I have a perk point to spend now, but would really like a confirmation before I put it into Advanced armors (since I don't even know if that will allow me to further upgrade the leather).

I really like my thieves guild armor and the bonus I get from those pieces...

Halp! :ahhh:

Improving leather is only affected by skill level, not by a specific perk.

Then why can I upgrade Elven to (Flawless) and Leather only to (Superior) ?

Because Elven has a perk and leather doesn't. You can upgrade leather to exquisite at best, I believe.

Because you can upgrade Elven twice as much (per the "Elven Smithing" perk). There is no corresponding "Leather Smithing" perk.

Shame. Still running around in my fur armor at level 28. Would love to improve it.

I'll direct you to a helpfull wiki page, all about smithing!

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Smithing#Item_Quality

Basicly, everything you need to know should be on that page.

Yet another reason why the smithing perk tree was designed poorly.

You can upgrade your leather to Legendary. You just need smithing enchantments and potions.

Well that svcks, there not being anything for upgrading leather I mean.

I honestly prefer the fur/leather/hide armor over the Elven and such. The elven looks more like fullplate than light anyways.

And yeah, looks do matter for me. I'm not a numbers-only person.
