I'm pretty sure a big part of the Morrowind team also worked on Oblivion.

I think TOO many people 'discovered' The Elder Scrolls with Morrowind, so that's sealed the deal as being their favorite game. It was their 'first'. ;)
Post-Morrowind, It's difficult for many to go back engine-wise (lol OMG they used SPRITES!!!) To appreciate Daggerfall or Arena for what they were.
And take off the rose colored glasses people. Yes, Daggerfall was a bug-fest. Yes, I learned the "Daggerfall 'shuffle'"(saving OFTEN & cycling through save slots to ensure a somewhat recent stable save :D) AND the Daggerfall 'shuffle' served me well in Morrowind, the CTD game of the year :) Not to say I didn't love Morrowind... I did! I'm just attempting to show WHY some people have unintentional bias towards one game or the other & it's a hurdle to go BACK such a large step (Tech-wise) and not have that affect your opinion.

*Queue Rabish promoting nethack ;)*

Yep, that is right. Maybe I should have splitted the poll as Absinth82 did, first asking people who have played all games, then those who only could compare MW and Oblivion. Or maybe, to be closer to what you said, ask the opinion of people who discovered the serie in the natural chronological order, and then those who did it in a more exotic one, like playing Arena after MW, before testing Oblivion before they finally download DF...

Technological evolution is a very hard bias to remove to compare the serie evolution. Ignorance of some of the games is even a bigger bias! After all, Arena and DF devs are "retired" since a long time, so should be most of their players (which are already fewer than MW and Ob ones).

At least, Oblivion having a bigger commercial success than MW, it is interesting to note a clear trend toward people considering something has been lost since TES III, even if Oblivion is technically better than MW.

Not something entirely new, but something different. None of the games of the series have been anywhere close to a true sequel of the last one, allowing each to stand alone as its own game. That is not to say that they aren't connected, I just don't want a Morrowind 2 or an Oblivion 2. I want The Elder Scrolls V, something new.

So does each game have an entirely different team working on it? How can that be? That doesn't make sense.

I would definatly would want the Daggerfall team. While I think Morrowind was superior to Daggerfall, Daggerfall is still the direction I think Bethesda should take for TES V.

Renee Gade: No, not entirely different, but of course there were changes every time.

I voted for the Morrowind team. Oddly enough though, I like Oblivion more than Morrowind. I feel that the Morrowind team would be forced to improve combat gameplay in order to please the new fanbase that Oblivion's success has created. I do appreciate Morrowind's storytelling, but Oblivion's combat made it more appealing to me regardless of weaker story.

Morrowind Team...

Played both MW and OB, and MW is by far better in MY opinion.

Morrowind's team. The amount of atmosphere and creativity put into that game are unrivalled. Definitely Morrowind.

The Oblivion team. I didn't play that much yet but it looked great and was great when I played only a little bit of it.

Eh this poll is kinda silly as it was on team that made the series. But if I must vote I say new.

Call me corny, but I'd seek out the guys from Lord of the Rings.

I want that hazey slow motion low endurance glistening sword fight.

Or the mystic elves safe haven

Make choosing different styles (combat, mage, or thief) have different cinematic effects instead of the same screen fights. The ones present make u choose a class just for combat advantage not for the real THRILL of seeing it. Make the wizards all mystic and the Knights all Bold and the Orcs BRUTAL. I wanna see SLOBBER! BLACK SLOBBER! SLOBBER!!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhh!
