Which TES do you play the most?

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 8:35 am

I'm kinda curious which game people are playing while they wait for TES V to come out.

I play oblivion the most. Though not for awhile i would play it about 3 hours a day. I almost never play morrowind because its so incredibly long and boring.

So what game do you play the most?

I play Oblivion the most, but I strongly disagree with your statement about Morrowind. I play them all a bit, but I can't say just how much. Now that my summer vacation has begun, I'm getting more free time to play them, but I voted rarely, as I'm not counting summer vacation time.

Morrowind. I love it. When I have the time I can play it for multiple hours on end. The lore is rich, the art style great, the political intrigue, the story, the gameplay. IMO, Morrowind is the closest thing to a perfect game at the moment. Oblivion was very very very good, but it just doesn't feel like a living/breathing world to me, but it would qualify for second best game ever in my book.

I can magically predict the results.

#1: Morrowind
#2: Oblivion
#3: Daggerfall
#4: Arena

Switch Morrowind and Oblivion and you have my greatest to least playtime list.

Morrowind is definately FTW. More often than not I can usually get in around 4 hours a day. But if I have nothing else to do, and I know people will leave me alone, I wont stop til I pass out

I play Morrowind, at least when I'm not involved in taking over the world or the universe in either some historical military or sci-fi game. When I do play MW, it's generally 2-4 hours at a shot in the evenings that I play, which happen about as often as not with my schedule. I'm not actively playing, currently, but did so about 2-3 weeks ago, and will probably start a fresh character in another few weeks when I get done with whatever I'm involved in at the moment and the "MW bug" inevitably bites me again.

Oblivion got a heavier play schedule at first, because it looked good, but after the initial "glamour" wore off, I began to get frustrated with the lack of anything "meaningful" in the game (your character stats were less important than your dexterity as a player, the factions were pointless and shallow, you couldn't "permanently' do anything because everything respawned, and it actually hurt you to "improve" because everything advanced as you did). I had to really struggle to maintain interest in it for long enough to finish the MQ, and haven't been able to muster enough enthusiasm for the game to even try the Shivering Isles expansion (which I hear is much better than the base game, but have yet to see).

I downloaded DF when Bethesda released it as a freebie, but haven't been motivated enough to go through all of the DOS-Box hassles, or to put a "classic" computer together from some of the mounds of stuff lying around the PC graveyard in my attic. I had seen it briefly, years back, but didn't really hear much about it one way or the other, so it wasn't on my list of "priorities" to try. I tried a mod for MW that added the DF starting dungeon, more or less, and found it "interesting, but kind of crude", and way too obviously random for my tastes. Somehow, I don't think I'd enjoy a complete game with such complete and uncontrolled randomization, which the game seems to rely on.

MW, typically 3-4 hours a day
My feelings about Oblivion are similar to those of Kovacius, initially very impressive but lacked the depth of MW
DF I found disappointing, best MQ of the 3 TES games I've played but theres little to differentiate the various NPCs and towns, the plethora of factions doesn't make up for so many of them being similar (join 1 knightly order you've seen them all), the random quests are unsatisfying and the huge randomly generated dungeons are reminisent of early D&D at its worst
Never played Arena

I'm playing Fallout 3 for now, but I'll probably be playing Fallout: New Vegas once it's released, up until TES V is released.

Oblivion atm, only because I'm waiting to get a laptop to play Morrowind and Oblivion on, but once I get it, it will be Morrowind all the time.

Both Morrowind and Oblivion I spend alot of time, which is around the same amount of hours for each game. Rather in the sense of playing the game, its more of me messing around with the CS, photoshop, and etc to create reality.

Morrowind is where it's at. Oblivion was great too! However, Morrowind is, like I said, where it's at.

I haven't really played either games this year I think because I've been so busy, but give me some time and I'll get back into them. Still have one achievement left for Oblivion.

You know, I hope the people voting in this poll actually own more than one Elder Scrolls game, otherwise that kind of defeats the point of answering the question (at least the first one). Not to point fingers, but these demographics polls in the general discussion forum tend to get some really unrealistic results due to people who shouldn't be voting, well, voting.

Anyway, it's pretty interesting in my case. I find that Oblivion is easier to pick up in play, since it's so arcadey in nature - at least to me, that is. If I get bored and want to play a "game", it may be Oblivion from time to time. When it is, however, the play sessions are usually pretty short once I remember how empty and meaningless most of the world is. By comparison, it's really hard for me to start playing Morrowind, just due to the mind numbing amount of things to do. I like to have a plan in advance for what I want to do on my character, or develop some sort of roleplaying/backstory ideas in my head before creating new characters. As such, unless I have a lot of free time and peace of mind, I don't get into Morrowind as easily. When I do, however, it can go on easily for upwards of 5+ hours if time is permitting. :)

Most people here have both Morrowind and Oblivion. Daggerfall is a lesser played one, though. Basically, everything becomes a Morrowind vs. Oblivion thread. At this point in time, Daggerfall is a "I've heard of it, but never played it" game and Arena is a "what's that" game.

Oblivion is tied with Morrowind in a poll, in the general section of the Elder Scrolls forums? :shocking:

Which says something interesting, right?

Because if Morrowind is always twice as big than Oblivion in the preference polls and tied here, then it seems like half those people who prefer Morrowind are mostly playing Oblivion.

Notice how those who prefer Daggerfall are mostly gone from the forums, now, but used to rule it and pick on Morrowind. The shift must be happening again.
