Which Texture Pack?

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:24 pm

Im looking to download the NMC's texture packs for my game. But I'm unsure what one to use. I dont think my laptop is good enough to run the FULL texture pack. But I'm deliberating between the PERFORMENCE and LITE packs.

Here are my laptop specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9000 @2.00Ghz
4.00GB RAM (3.00GB Usable)
Windows 7 32. Bit Operating System
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670

Which should I use?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

(Apologies in advance if a thread like this already exists)

You might want to try Lite first and see how it performs. If you find you're still getting good FPS with some to spare then try moving to Performance and see how that goes. Just my thought.

Cheers for the reply buddy. Like you said, ive tried the Lite and everything seems to be running exactly the same as before. Im runningFallout on High settings. So would anyone reccommend trying the Performence package on High settings? Or trying the Performence package on Medium settings. Just to see the change in FPS?

I would say to give it a go, honestly. The way I do things is I add in content mods first (so I get any added content I am looking for) - once that is done I start upping visuals until I start to see a negative impact and cut just before it starts to stutter up a bit. In the end, I have had to start looking for even bigger textures in a number of places to try and fill this gap. I am running NMC on all highest settings, max bumpmaps, and High FO Game settings (actually, they are tweaked above the Very High settings) and I am now going to add in 4Aces Textures as well to cover anything missed by NMC. Couple that with a few random replacers I liked more than NMC and you get a pretty visually stunning game (looks great in 1080 through HDMI onto my LCD TV).

Of course, different systems will get different mileage, but I see no reason to push the envelope as far as you can. Of course, backup your Data folder before installing new textures, that way if you start to see issues you can quickly and easily revert to what was working.

Another great reply, cheers :) Yeah, im planning on trying the Performance texture packs tomorrow to see id theres much impact on fps. If I deem it unplayable after that, ill revert to my backup game and consider myself satisfied. It runs realy smoothly on the LITE pack. Fingers crossed on the Performance! Gonna leave it for tonight though and go play some Fallout. Managed to hook my PS3 controller up through my laptop so I can play it just like a console version!
