Which Is The Best Elder Scrolls Theme

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:00 pm

Okay, I'd like to just find out which Elder Scrolls theme people think is the best. My three favourite are:

1. Daggerfall
2. Morrowind
3. Oblivion -- Nerevar Rising (Note: This was the original theme for Oblivion: an altered version of the Morrowind theme, but was later replaced by 'Reign of The Septims': the one we all know and love)

Also, I would like to know where I can get these songs. I know where I can get Morrowind and Oblivion, but none of the others. Any help?

A video with most of these songs can be found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ_bkygS2FI.

Color me confused. Isn't Nerevar Rising the Morrowind Main theme? And if you are saying that it was the Oblivion theme (which... it wasn't) and that it was replaced by Reign of The Septims, which is the main Oblivion them, then, logically, one would vote for the theme that is... the Oblivion theme. Which is Reign if the Septims or whatever it is properly called.

Nerevar Rising is the Morrowind theme, and they just used a version of it for Oblivion. And some people might think that Oblivion's Nerevar Rising is better than Reign of The Septims or Morrowind's. And I'm just saying that Nerevar Rising was a possible theme for Oblivion. On the E3 demo, the loading screen plays Nerevar Rising. Then they decided to change it to Reign of The Septims.

The E3 demo is a... demo. A lot of times demo clips use music that will never be in the end product, so saying that was the theme of Oblivion is not correct. :) More likely the music for OB was not done at the time of E3, or gamesas preferred to wait before unveiling the main theme for the new game. OB, as released, does not included Nerevar Rising. It's opening theme is Reign of the Septims. I can tweak your poll, if you would like, so it's less confusing.

Whatever what theme may be what, my favourite is the theme you hear when you start up Morrowind. In other words, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWuNf4gxwuM.

Now, when we're talking Oblivion's version of Nerevar Rising, do we mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPEEp5R_pOo I do love that arrangement, it's beautiful, but... I think I'll have to say the Morrowind theme is my favorite, by sheer value of nostalgia.

Nerevar Rising isn't the main theme of Morrowind either. It's called Call of Magic.

Anyway, I prefer Morrowind's main theme over Oblivion's any day. Oblivion's is just too loud and crass for my likes. Tamriel Rebuilt's main theme (I've forgotten its name) is also very nice. When I first played Telvannis (map 1) I was blown away at how good the music was. It meshes near perfectly with Soule's original score.

Well, since i only found tamriel rebuilt, TES III + IV, and nerevar rising until now, i'll choose between them, i'm stuck between morrowind and oblivion, morrowind really feels just down-right awesome with it's smooth and gentle notes, oblivion reminds me of a war call or an inspirational speech, it's close but i'll choose oblivion's main theme.

I prefer the hard sounding trumpets and deep trombone and barry sound sprinkled with flutes and all of the 'higher' instruments to the morrowind music, too soft. I just like the 'harder' overall sound of oblivion's theme.

Morrowind would be very fun to 'play' with a full band but it's a little slow, I tend to prefer faster paced music.

I like both of them I guess.. just oblivion more.

(Also, no idea if I chose the right one.)

Truth.

The Demo track they used in the E3 showcase was a placeholder track for the intended Reign of the Septims. The actual song displayed at E3 is Nerevar Rising - Reprise. It's the very last track on the Morrowind Soundtrack which can be purchased from DirectSong.

Though, out of all the available Morrowind and Oblivion tracks, I must admit that the Reprise is my favorite.

When it comes to the styles of the two games in terms of music, I greatly prefer the cautious, slow-paced, almost tribal feel that Morrowind brought to the table.

I just checked my soundtrack listing for Morrowind and it notes Nerevar Rising as "the Morrowind Title Song" - which is what most of us are interpreting as the main theme. I know I do. :) I don't see a listing for Call of Magic.

I actually prefer Nerevar Rising Reprise over the standard Morrowind theme. There are literally no Oblivion tracks I enjoy however, with perhaps one ambience exception. The usage of dungeon music again was a good idea too - it did add a bit to the atmosphere versus Morrowind where you could be traversing a pitch-black cave as the majestic theme blares out of your speakers.

Daggerfall didn't really have a theme, though some of the individual tracks were so breathtaking and memorable that they could be unofficially classified as themes for the game. :)

Thanks, everyone, for your explanations of the Nerevar Rising song, but I think I'll leave it as it is. Besides, what we're talking about is the song itself, not what it represents. I just want to know if people like the song. Though I will refer to it correctly in future. Thanks!

Hmm, I have the official OST from the Collectors Edition and it calls the Morrowind theme (the title song) Call of Magic. I'm inclined to believe it's right.

That's weird. I have the OST purcahseable through DirectSong, and it has the title track labeled as "Nerevar Rising."

I've always thought the Morrowind theme was called "Call of Magic" too, although in the game files it's just listed as the Morrowind title theme.

It's a great track whatever it's called.

If you consider the Dvorak piece they used in the trailer as the Daggerfall theme then it wins hands-down.

Morrowind's original theme Nerevar Rising is just sheerly overpowering in nostalgia.

Although overall, I actually liked Oblivion's music more than Morrowind's, I have to say that of the two, I prefer Morrowind's main theme.

I'm not too familiar with the themes of other games, but from the video linked to in the first post, I stand by what I have said.

I really like the soundtrack of Oblivion, not only the main theme.
I haven't played Morrowind so listening to it's theme doesn't bring any nostalgia or high emotions.

No matter how many debats there are, Morrowind will always be the best chosen. Yes, even the theme song of Morrowind beats the other TES games songs.
