So which is the highest mountain?

I was always under the impression that High Hrothgar was the highest mountain in all Tamriel, so high that its peak disappears beyond the sky. But on the Skyrim forum, some people are saying it's Red Mountain.

So which is the highest peak?

It's red mountain. High hrothgar is the second highest. But, when it comes to in-game size, I expect HH to be taller than Red Mountain. It's in the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-first-edition-skyrim.

It's not red mountain, it's ALL OF VVARDENFELL. It's like how Mt. Everest is the highest highest point above sea level, but is already on one of the world's highest plateaus to start. The real tallest mountain is actually Mauna Kea.

Did you hear about what happened when Vivec went to Mount Dagoth Ur?

Voryn said "I never knew you cared, sweetie."

Can the volcano blowing its top make it any shorter?

They usually shrink after they erupt.

Explosions do usually imply destruction. Even if it is shorter though, it could still be the highest point in Tamriel. In addition, if the volcano is still active, it could eventually regain or surpass its height. I think that we will have a definite answer in game though if it is now shorter than High Hrothgar or not... since that is the type of thing you would hear about if you were in Skyrim.

But it has been 200 years-ish since Red Mountain blew its top. I doubt people would talk much about it, unless it's some really old dunmer reminiscing or something.

Someone probably bragged about it in a history book though, if Red Mountain did in fact shrink so it was smaller than High Hrothgar.
