In the title you wrote mages/wizards then in the poll you wrote magic wielding rogues, so for the first it could be any but if it's the second i doubt anything but robes would be associated with rogues.

wands are for kids playing wizard, hats are just dumb, toe-tickling beards are for dwemer

robes and staves for a good mage/wizard

of ocurse the poll asks about a rogue who happens to use magic, in which case none, but maybe a fighting staff, maybe

Robes, whenever I play as a mage character, I always look for a nearby shop to buy robes.

I picked staff, thinking Mage, then I saw the Rogue bit and I was all 'wtf'...then I figured if I was a rogue, and I had to pick, I'd go with a staff. Why? A staff is more useful then just straight up magic, and all the other [censored] would get in the way of being a Rogue. Except the Wand, but who the hell wants to use a danty little wand? Thats... I dunno, don't like wands. Anyways yeah a staff could be useful for all manner of things, vaulting over something, using it to climb an extra high wall (why Ninja-to's had square hilts for use as steps). It's more of a 'tool' then all the other crap as well as magicy. And that's what rogues do, use tools to get jobs done.

I always play mages and they always wear armor. I've never had a character wear robes. I answered staves simply because of the related mages guild quests in Oblivion. In Skyrim, staves will rock with the duel wielding sword and staff thing going on.

The word "rogue" was there for fun, there was no meaning behind it. :sadvaultboy:

Staves, I guess. But I prefer robes, and hoods.

None of that really.
But if I have to choose out of that lot, then robes - got to feel comfortable after all! ;)

I couldn't pick just one. The first thing that came to my mind was Robe. If I had to pick one, probably be that, followed closely by a Staff.

Logic tells us the ONLY correct answer is robes.

Imagine you need to tell if a wizard is coming at you before he can zap you...what would you look for in teh distance?

- A wand? Nope too small you would never see it until it was too late!
- A staff? Nope that could be a walking stick or a poleaxes, it would be incolslusive as an indetnifcation.
- A floppy hat? Nope, that could be someone hiding a bad haircut!
- A beard? No, a bearded person is just as likley to be a trapper or a Nord female…so nope it is no good.
- A robe? Yes, wizards wear robes and only they wear robs because nobody else wants to look like a 'silly little [censored]' in a dress.

A wizard in armor? Sorry that is not a wizard at all because AS WE ALL KNOW the magic ethers that magic needs are sapped & depleted by refined metals. A wizard in armor or with metal weapons is and always would be impotent in magic creation! Any wizard in anything but a robe is as harmless as a baby. A robe is the only choice!

The hat.

I equally associate robes with priests and monks, so that's off the table.

Wands are lore specific, many stories involving magic don't involve wands.

Anyone can find and use a magical stave.

Beard can belong to a bard, viking, monk, old man, scientist, many many more archetypes often depicted with a large beard.

The long and crooked hat is wizard specific and wizard exclusive. At least, that's how I see it.
