I'll be honest, I was surprised at the positive reception and popularity of my last story, Queen of The Pitt - linked in my sig. So, I've been thinking of new stories set in the Fallout universe, where myriad tales are left to be told. Forum rules prohibit more than one ongoing thread in FF forums at a time, so I'll lay out the ideas I've got, then based on votes and feedback flesh one out. Right now I have some ideas, but probably won't be simply doing one story after another, primarily for time and also because of material and themes I'd want to consolodate into one story. So, here they are - the titles are early placeholders that sum up the main gist.

Born in the N.C.R.
This one is probably closest to the idea of Queen of The Pitt. It follows on from the events of New Vegas - following a 'personal canon' that ended with an N.C.R. victory at Hoover Dam. It is some twenty to thirty years later, the Mojave (and more) has been fully absorbed into the New California Republic. It concerns Private Kyle Edwards - the ghoul trooper The Courier encounters in Camp Searchlight, his experiences in the Republic afterwards, and a new force in the Republic inspired by the Courier and Boone. I'm also thinking of including Melody (the little girl in The Fort) as a major character. Here I'm aiming for a kind of 'Born on the Fourth of July' kinda feel.

Nothing to do with religion, merely metaphorical - although if it isn't kosher I'll change the title. This one is set in an old English castle - the people who inhabit it shortly after the bombs fall, their attempts to defend their new home and the society that develops once the bombs 'wipe the slate clean'. Here I think a kind of Threads crossed with the British section in World War Z theme would lend itself well to England in the Fallout universe. I don't know if an English setting is passé, but living in Britain this would be the best researched story, if you will. However, I could change the setting to Germany - another interesting setting.

The Yangtze Boys
Ever wonder what happened to the power armoured scouts sent into mainland China? This explores their dilemmas after the bombs decimate their command structure and turns the world into a radioactive wasteland. Do they attempt to find a way home, or eke out an existence in the most hostile land imaginable? Here I'm thinking of a kind of Black Hawk Down feel, using elements from the cancelled Fallout: Extreme.

The Stones of Venice
One that's not very fleshed compared to the others, I'll be honest. It's most similar to A Mighty Fortress is our God, but set obviously in Italy, and the society that arises as survivors try and reclaim their proud and cultured heritage. Not a lot to say at the moment besides the setting, but a Machiavellian angle would lend itself well. I know plenty about the city and region, so like AMFIOG research and feel won't be a problem.

I really, really, really, do not want to see another fanfic set in the Mojave right now. Maybe after a few more months, but right now I'm so bored of the Mojave that I rather shoot myself in the head, than read, hear, or see another description on the Mojave. I'm all for the Sahara or Death Valley, but not the Mojave. Of course, even if you did do the Mojave one, I'd still read it, but I much prefer the ones mentioned above, I could go for something like that.

Thanks, this is why I started the poll - I haven't read the FF forum in a while, so I don't know what's been done to death and what people are bored of. Knowing your audience is a crucial part of creating an engaging bit of fiction, so I don't want to write something that's been seen many times before or something where the audience thinks the setting/plot wouldn't be engaging. So this is kind of market research, if you will. They're in order of 'fleshed out-ness'.

True, but if somebody had an idea in their head, and they were willing to flesh it out and edit it intensively, I would say go ahead and post it. Regardless if had been done to death or not. And this is just my humble opinion, I'm not sure what others would say, I kinda of want to hear myself.

Now that I think about, Stones of Venice more, I've seen England done before, but never Italy. Either way Good Luck, though you seem to be a pretty decent writer, so I doubt you'll need it.

Indeed, although it's mainly a time thing - I've got ideas for all of them, some of which can be swapped around and adapted for other settings, but I can't do them all, so I want a conservation of entertainment if you like.

I seriously doubted between A fortress is our God and the Yanghtze boys.

I chose the first because I am interested in seeing a fallout story with elements of threads involved. I don't care mucht for World War Z (I know what it is, but that's about all. I haven't read it or anything) so I didn't take that in consideration. The thing that pushed me over the edge was said story taking place closer to home (I live in the Netherlands) and Europe being pretty much Terra Incognita, fallout-wise.

The Yanghtze Boys sounds interesting as well, so I'm actually hoping you would do Fortress first and Yanghtze later.

I'd be interested in seeing "A fortress is our God" and a post-apocalyptic England personally. The idea of an old castle being used as a settlement is appealing, especially as I live within driving distance of Dover castle, which would make a pretty cool setting. Dover would actually be a pretty good environment for a story thread, come to think of it. The port complex could be nice and wrecked, with half-sunk / derelict Fallout-style ferries being used as settlements by raiders, a la Rivet-City.

I'd be interested in seeing whatever you come up with anyway.

I like your style with the Queen of the Pitt and would like your experience to go over into Born in the NCR.

But I doubt my single thought will sway others.

The rest are a bit meh. I like stories that have references.


Also I'm not sure how English it would get with the English setting. How would there sertting be different? Lot of unknowns here, kind of takes away from the 50s america (unless America basheded its beliefs in the furture into Europe somehow).

Also Lorca1 : Freeside Story: A Fanfic on the Kings and a new gang of NCR squatters(The Bears). Just for the lolz.

Also another Fanfic idea: Lords of Dog Town: Maybe the Jackal gang survivors of NCR brutality reached as far as Dog City and took up shop training packs of wild dogs and gaining power in the area, later the CLegion approached and now their is a war between the retunring Jackal gang and the 86 tribes.

Maybe I should start on doing fanfics...

The Yangtze Boys sounds great, it'd be really cool if it were all about survivng (possibly against slightly mutated chinese people?)

I find the Yangtze Bros most interesting. I don't know if it's the fact it reminds me of Brothers, or that it delves into the military, but I really like the premise. Plus China is a beautiful territory.

Rationing, austerity, loss of Empire, all that good stuff.

Looks like The Yangtze Boys is winning so far, so unless there's any big swings in the trends I'll get started on the preliminaries there.
