What about HD compatability, and being able to play on your TV on a couch, with a wireless Xbox Controller? (i know these things are possible on PC (not sure about wireless controllers, but i wouldn't be surprised), but they aren't as practical, and add to the cost of playing on a already very expensive PC)

My computer is 3 years old, and it cost 700 dollars at the time. despite it's cheapness, it can do everything I need, other than current-gen gaming... I got a 300 dollar xbox for that. totaling 1000 dollars, for a computer, and a gaming system, instead of a computer that is also a gaming system.

HD compatibility? PCs do that of course. You probably have a DVI output in which case try this http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-HDMI-Adapter-Cable-Meters/dp/B001TH7T2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303326150&sr=8-1
TV on your couch? Don't have a wireless keyboard/mouse? Try this. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303326051&sr=8-1
Wireless xbox controller for pc? no problem http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303326051&sr=8-1

Hardware platform that causes the maker to lose money that they recoup by charging companies like BGS a huge cut for every game sold on their platform? Sorry no can do. But you should be able to get a PC that can play Skyrim better than an xbox for about $500 when October rolls around. And you can use it for a lot more than just playing games!

PC - The TES modding community is great and the ability to tweak or add content to your liking is unmatched by anything the consoles have to offer.

PS3. hardcoe Elder Scrolls fan but casual gamer. Mods don't matter to me as Bethesda make brilliant vanilla games (the only doubt I ever had was OB's level scaling). I just found the PS3 to be the cheapest all round machine.

see? see?! most gamers (forum members anyhow) are playing it on pc, screw 90% playing it on platforms!!!

Of course, this is a bit unfair since the majority of people who use forums use pc aswell, otherwise u know... its kinda hard to get to the forums.

I've probably answered about 10 of these since Skyrims announcement (out of pure boredom). If people actually cared about the results they would've used the search function.

And this, my friend, is just the mentality that will ultimately kill the PC market. :nope:

People here are saying its cheaper to buy consoles and games on them than pc, I just have to do the math now. so lets see the numbers. the currency is in ISK, if you don't get it you can convert it on http://www.xe.com/ucc/

At Cheapest Hardware Stores around

A New PS3/X360 Game : 11k
A New PC Game : 8k
A Decent Gaming Rig with 1TB hard drive : Around 100k
A PS3 with 360 GB hard drive : Around 65k
A X360 with 250 GB hard drive : Around 40k

Adding 15 games
PC: 220k
PS3 : 230k
X360 : 205k

At this point the X360 is undoubtedly cheapest. but i ain't done yet

PC Monitor 24" Full HD : 33k
PC Monitor 23" Full HD with stereo 3D support and nvidia 3d pack : 80k
TV Full HD 22" (closest to 23" i could find) : 65k
TV w. Stereo 3D support, cheapest i could find was 40" : 250k

PC:253k
PC 3D:300k
X360:270k
X360 3D:455k
PS3:295k
PS3 3D:480k

At this point clearly the PC is cheapest but i aint done yet.

Keyboard and Mouse (Decent ones) and most expensive i could find 5.1 Speakers from Creative : 34k
Keyboard and Mouse (Decent ones) 2.1 Speakers from Logitech : 21k
PS3 Controller : Included (around 9k)
X360 Controller : Included (around 8k)

Results With 15 Games:

PC:
Non-3D with 2.1 Speakers : 274k
Non-3D with 5.1 Speakers: 287k
3D with 2.1 Speakers:321k
3D with 5.1 Speakers:334k

Xbox 360:
With 1 Controller:270k
With 2 Controllers:278k
3D With 1 Controller:455k
3D With 2 Controllers:463k

PS3:
With 1 Controllers:295k
With 2 Controller:304k
3D With 1 Controller:480k
3D With 2 Controllers:489k

We all know you will buy an extra controller unless you have absolutely no friends.

So lets look at it the way most people would buy it as a Final Result:

PC with 2.1 speakers and a 22" Monitor : 266k (Yes i reduced the screen size because 22" is what most would buy)
Xbox 360 with 2 controllers and a 22" TV : 278k
PS3 with 2 Controllers and a 22" TV : 304k

In the end this leaves us with the PC just barely a little bit cheaper than the Xbox 360, and the PS3 by far the most expensive.
Now this is just the cheapest ways of getting a decent gaming platform be it a PC or a Xbox-360 or PS3 with 15 games. but we all know that almost no one would buy a 22" TV, most people would buy 32" or larger. No one can call himself a gamer without trying at least 15 games, we can all agree on that right? so there we have it.

PC Wins once again, and now all the things you can do on a PC that you can not do on consoles... you can even create games on here!!! so, if i was looking to save myself money i would get the PC. Unless if i'd watch a lot (not a little bit, but a lot) of TV. then i'd go for the 463k X-Box 360 with 2 controllers pack or i'd just go with PC and buy myself that 40" TV with it.

Undecided. I've got a computer which will probably play Skyrim adequately (a 2011 Macbook Pro), but I'd need an HDMI dongle, and a wireless mouse + keyboard. But those are probably good things to have more generally anyway. So I might just try out Skyrim on my Mac, and see how that goes. If I don't like it, and if vanilla Skyrim doesn't have any game-breaking features which require mods, I might cave and purchase an XBox to play Skyrim on it.
