What about HD compatability, and being able to play on your TV on a couch, with a wireless Xbox Controller? (i know these things are possible on PC (not sure about wireless controllers, but i wouldn't be surprised), but they aren't as practical, and add to the cost of playing on a already very expensive PC)
My computer is 3 years old, and it cost 700 dollars at the time. despite it's cheapness, it can do everything I need, other than current-gen gaming... I got a 300 dollar xbox for that. totaling 1000 dollars, for a computer, and a gaming system, instead of a computer that is also a gaming system.
HD compatibility? PCs do that of course. You probably have a DVI output in which case try this http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-HDMI-Adapter-Cable-Meters/dp/B001TH7T2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303326150&sr=8-1
TV on your couch? Don't have a wireless keyboard/mouse? Try this. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303326051&sr=8-1

Hardware platform that causes the maker to lose money that they recoup by charging companies like BGS a huge cut for every game sold on their platform? Sorry no can do. But you should be able to get a PC that can play Skyrim better than an xbox for about $500 when October rolls around. And you can use it for a lot more than just playing games!
