Which wasteland did u prefer F03 or FNV

Post » Sun Apr 05, 2009 12:34 am

Fallout 3s landscape was more realistic. There's several places in F:NV where various "humps" and "ridges" just look [censored].

In all honesty I don't care for either, the game worlds are too compressed and cluttered (especially Fallout 3's) to feel like proper wastelands. New Vegas' world felt more like a wasteland, but it still felt really compressed.

Er.. Check NV's map one more time for me bud..

NV full stop,

Fallout 3 stated itself as "the place that refused to change"

it actually felt like this part of the world was destroyed, and there wasn't a huge portion of land taken up by mountains.

Thats the problem, its destroyed, and how many years passed?, 200, at this point, people must be reconstructing their lives, not living in the past forever

Why? I know it well enough already, and looking at it for the hundredth time isn't going to change my opinion on the matter.

and there's nothing interesting in it besides the main areas.

Overall I enjoyed exploring Fallout 3 better, it was slightly depressing, there were actually interesting little tidbits here and there, there was something on each corner of the map, it actually felt like this part of the world was destroyed, and there wasn't a huge portion of land taken up by mountains. :obliviongate:

And it is full of main areas. I actually found Fallout 3's map boring, when every location was filled with generic enemies, serving no other purpose than to be shot. Like Mama Dolce's for example, all there was just ghouls named "chinese remnants", or something like that. I had no option to interact, let alone work with them.

Yeah because I'm sure your vault education taught you to be fluent in chinese and you also learned that all people are essentially good, and that everything happens for a reason other than killing a guy to take his coat.

Imo, fallout 3 was the most hey-this-feels-like-fallout 1. Right out of the box. New vegas I was uneasy about at first, but now it's my favorite. With vegas and factions it's hard not to think of it as the shiny new fallout 2 for me.

Killing a guy for his coat has no reason? Nuclear winter man!

I think his point was that, but for a few exceptions the entire wasteland was filled with hostile people who felt more like cannon-fodder than say actual people struggling to survive.

Yup, exactly. I think i should mod the game so that i can fast travel to any map marker from the start. After all there's nothing between them. And often nothing in them either. Well, expect the road passing Quarry Junction and the one leading to Black Mountain.

Maybe the hostile people won out over those struggling to survive. I kind of enjoyed the female Raider shooting at me and asking if I wanted to be her new boyfriend. Brought some humanity to the fight. But she never waited for me to answer???

Mojave is dead, no random encounters makes wandering it pretty boring.

It's a [censored] RPG if 99% people you encounter are just there for you to kill. Doing nothing but fighting enemies and occasionally finding a new shiny gun is boring.

No clue, but you can hardly play the game without fighting. Actually, that might make an interesting challenge. Some quests would be impossible or atleast very hard, and XP gain would have to come from completing quests and challenges. Swift Learner and Here and Now perks would finally be useful. I may even try that.

And no, i am no shooter junkie. Every RPG i've ver played has just been focused around combat  And i am not opposed to turn based combat, as i get older and slower that becomes ever more better option for me :P But that's why there is VATS, and the mod added, AP consuming "Bullet Time". Turbo does the same in base game, but is too rare and has too short duration to be used regularly.

Great topic OP.

I am torn between the realistic layout / zone based threats of FNV and the fun, randomness of the FO3.

I would prefer a combo of the two. FNV would probably be a better wasteland if it just had more threats. After you know where everything spawns FNV wasteland loses its danger. :(.

I dont not have a definative answer on this one, but am enjoying reading the discussion

I agree. A few more random encounters would spice up NV nicely. Just not to the cartoonish level of FO3 which made me feel like I was playing Saints Row 2 sometimes.

A happy medium would be great.

Like I said before, I don't mind harder combat, I really don't want to see more. I should be able to avoid fighting if I wanted to have that choice. Part of being a good RPG is giving players choices, and if I wanted to create a character that prefers talking over fighting I want to have that choice.

Definitely FO3. There was more out there. More danger, more of a chance you may get your head blown off and not even see it coming...

I just hope that the new engine they are using for Skyrim allows for larger, more diverse maps with weather.
