Which wasteland do you prefer?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:40 pm

So I've seen people complaining about both games' maps for a variety of reasons.

In light of Fallout 4 following Fallout 3's map design of a clustered city area surrounded by a rural outside dotted with settlements, I wanted to see if you like this style or the style new vegas went with more.

I don't really remember 3's map but I do remember new Vegass map and it was much more land, mainly because that's what new Vegas is today. Fallout 4 did somewhat of the same thing but with the major city being focused in the middle with open land surrounding it. As for my vote, I like all of them, they all had their pros and cons.

Capital Wasteland because of how brutal, depressing, and dark the overall tone was compared to the Commonwealth.

But I honestly would prefer Fallout 1-2's Cali wasteland - I would add that as an option too.

Capital wasteland felt so wastelandey. New Vegas felt like a desert, a crappy desert with a crappy city. Loved the options you had in it though, just not the map

It just looks like F4 map is so much smaller compared to F3 or NV. Maybe they will enlarge with DLC.

Capital by far, that's how I expect desolation to look...

Fallout 4 is good as well, the outlying areas mostly. Ground Zero area is amazing IMO...

Hate Fallout 3's grey/green wasteland. Hate the subways. Hate the orc supermutants. Hate the recycled enemies from the first two games.

Capital Wasteland without question, the large open world areas that looked devastated mixed in with those brilliant underground stations leading sometimes to just small pockets of city buildings or large areas including the museums, New Vegas can not even be compared to that. Plus to make it even worse the NV Mojave had all those Invisible Barriers forcing the direction in which the player could travel, could you go straight to Vegas at the beginning? NO Invisible Walls stopped you from climbing over the cliffs or travelling in any direction that would take you in a straight line to Vegas no matter what you tried. Luckily they could be removed by a Mod, without the Mod NV was the worst "Open World" game Beth has been involved in that was claimed to be an open world styled game.

the fallout 4 map is 2.5 tims bigger than fallout 3 and NV map is smaller area than fallout 3, you can run across those maps fast at fallout 4 sprinting speed also, the fallout 4 map is pretty big actually, i think because there is less open space you might get that feeling but no way in hell they're bigger maps, fallout 3 is 389 grid squares and fallout 4 is 729. if you overlay the maps you'll see the dfifference.

Fallout New Vegas at least had SOME variety, and lucidity within the world.Fallout 3 layered a monotone of death, and a filter of sickly green over possibly the most asinine world to ever be seriously presented.A world with more plastic surgeons than farmers, a world were a settlement of children managed to repopulate itself before its occupants reached 16; surviving off of wall fungus, next to a vault of supermutants.

A world were the only vegatation to be found in the C.W rests on a table in Dr Li's science lab; and a bin in Arlington Library...

The capital wasteland was fun to explore, but it came at the price of your cognitive faculties.

Dead grass, dead bushes and where's this abundance of mutfruit?

Keep failing to create your own memes.

*awaits images of dead shrubbery to somehow qualify as vegetation*

*its dead because I say it is disregarding that we see brahmin survive on it in both Fo3 and NV*

Now you are going to be saying the purfier flows into the river or some other meme.

Not much point in arguing with Possum. It's all cyclical.

I preferred the Mojave over the Capital wasteland....although the Commonwealth is quickly growing on me. Makes me long for another Call of Cthulhu game

I liked the Capital Wasteland but loved the Mojave more. It had a Mad Max feel to it, and it was apart of one of my favorite games ever.

Yar, boston is probably the most fun to explore due to its diversity. I like the mojave just because of the western nature of the desert. The capital wasteland looks too green for my tastes.

I can't stand the Mohave Wasteland. I voted for the Capital Wasteland.

I haven't gotten Fallout 4 yet. But after looking at screenshots I think the Commonwealth may end up being my favorite out of the three.

The Commonwealth is better than either one IMO.

It combines the best of both worlds in my opinion. More logical settlement design, more realistic post-nuclear conditions (read: vegetation) whilst still keeping the post-apocalyptic feel, and to top it off its colorful.

Out of Fo3 and NV, I prefer both wastelands equally for various reasons.

I don't have a preference. I liked them both for different reasons. Not sure how I feel about the Commonwealth.

There's no reason to suggest that dead shrubbery sustains brahmin in either game, brahmin being placed their does not validate the premise. Though new Vegas at least provides other forms of vegetation for livestock to plausibly eat from; while the emaciated people of the c.w are expected to eat 200 year old food products and brahmin that may as well be self-sustaining.

This might be the single most fatuous argument in defense of Fallout 3, though at this point one expects such discourse...
