It's a toss-up between flails and throwing weapons for me. Throwing weapons are more versatile, however. So I'm going with that.

My votes for throwing weapons, plus they could include throwing spears (or javelins) so people can't complain about those not being in the game anymore.

My vote goes to crossbows, because that's going to happen before my beloved http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR_CLNr9TWg. ... Best not watched by the faint of heart...

Crossbows are cool, but pulling a real bow is just so much more fun IMO. There's a little more skill involved. And I just like feeling like a hunter/archer lol

Halbreds or polearms. I love that reach. Crossbows would be cool, but not a necessity.

Flails and whips seem quite interesting, if they can deliver the perfect physics for them. ;)

We all know Spears will win in votes but....

  • What has been in previous Elder Scrolls games?
  • What brings a different form of combat to the game?
  • What hasn't been done yet, atleast not to the extent of modern games?
  • What looks the coolest?

1. This is fulfilled by a lot of the weapons. Certainly Spears, Flails, Crossbows, and even Throwing Weapons have been in previous Elder scrolls games.

2. I think a Crossbow is basically the same as Bow and Arrow so I wouldn't say that's too different. Staffs are probably same as swords in terms of combat but they could bring a little bit different form of combat in terms of gameplay if they did it right. Flails are pretty much Maces but looks 10X's more badass. So I'de have to say Throwing Weapons or maybe the Whip bring the most different form of combat experience to the game.

3. We have seen spears, throwing weapons, and crossbows in plenty of modern day RPG's but we have not seen a Flail done well. It would be a challenge to get the physics of the ball at the end of the chain to work right when swinging it or when it's just hanging there but I think Bethesda are trailblazers and if anyone can do it first and more importantly do it right they can.

4. This is a tossup of opinion but for me it's a Flail. Nothing looks more brutal and intimidating then a flail for me. The massive force of this blunt or spikey ball smashing into shield or bone and flesh would sure cause a damaging impact. Even if they just included one of these weapons, as a sorta special find it would be awesome. Halberds are probably second on my list because they are just a multipurpose and deadly polearm variant that looks badass.

All in all I would have to say, and I voted for, Flails.

As others have said in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1170767-new-weapon-flails/ thread... http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/gallery_files/dagger_shot04.jpg And people modded them into http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOQ6PdxLCro and Oblivion. If Bethesda did them right they could be a very unique and menacing weapon, possibly special finds like how they treated some weapons in Morrowind.

Plus they just look so badass!

Flails. The other choices are great, and I'd love to see Crossbows or Polearms as well, but I miss being able to thwack a beast in the face with a Morningstar.

Unsurprisingly, polearms (spears) are in the lead with most votes. (spears not happening)

If I could pick only one and it was implemented well, Fails without a shadow of a doubt. A properly implemented and animated flail would be awesome.

yes, spears get the most publicity in these forums, probably because the were in morrowind.

I think flails would be much more interesting/fun weapons though, people have already just made up their minds that they want need spears.

EDIT: that is, "spears, not in the classical sense"

Voted flail, just because they are cool. Close second: polearms. Why are nunchucks even an option? Weird... :toughninja:
