Which weapons do you refuse to use?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:04 pm

Have you ever been wacked with a board full of nails? It friggin hurts!!! Lol JK.

I never use the .32 revolver, chinese pistol, rolling pin, knife, pool cue, switchblade, and the regular assault rifle if I can help it. I see a lot of big guns haters out there. They probably hate them because they don't see the benefits that come with them. By level 10 ammo is never really an issue for me. Yes they do cost more than other gun types to use, but they pack quite a punch. My best character was a big guns user who could just run into battle and mow his enemies down. He didn't have much trouble taking out ghoul reavers and hordes of tribesmen in point lookout. Alas the thing that finally killed him was an accidental delete while hiding with some other files.

The problem with a big guns toon is that they aren't scavengers. Which is an incredible problem for me and my tin can obsession.

I don't use the fatman, nor the blaster or firelance.
I've found something interesting btw with the Unique Chinese Pistol. If you have the Superior Defender Perk, Ghoul Ecology and the Pyromaniac Perk, and you free hand shoot this baby... let's just say it's pretty awesome to use. I can fire 10 bullets very very fast. And they actually hurt your enemy. Just never use it in VATS, as it svcks there. It's good in dark buildings, as it's a beacon for Charon and Dogmeat.

...or me and my coffee mug and coffee pot obsession. You cannot carry 157 coffee mugs, 20 coffee pots, everything else and a minigun. But LR at 5 pounds and a pair of Spiked Knuckles go with anything.

Anchorage missile launcher? Is there some special missile launcher you get from that? I know there is one in the loot room, but it seemed pretty normal.

The fatboys. I hate them. No class. Also I generally stay away from miniguns, I'd say that they aren't worth their price in ammo, if it weren't for 5mm being abundant.

What are you to cheap to buy ammo... But the Chinese pistol is the most worthless gun ever. I thought it would be epic since it looked like a mauser but its not.

You shouldn't discriminate against people based on their weight. That is mean.

LOL

Yeah, i never really use a fat man as the cost of ammo is too high. I can take a behemoth down with Eugene for less caps than using a fat man.

.32 Pistol, Chinese pistol are garbage. You get a 10mm right off the bat from the vault. There's also over 100 rounds of ammo in the security locker in the vault too. Making the .32 and Chinese pistol useless even for a beginning gun. Besides, when you look at the damage on both it doesn't even compare to the 10mm.

The assault rifle is also pretty awful compared to the Chinese assault rifle. It's not bad when you're just starting out, but once I get a Chinese AR in decent shape I just sell the assault rifle if I still have it.

Energy weapons are also pretty useless. I've done one playthrough with them. The gatling laser and gauss rifle are really the only good ones.

For big guns, I liked the minigun it's alright when you've go Eugene coupled with max skill. It eats up ammo fast and is inaccurate but I found it did a good job of eating away at enemies health rather quickly. The flamer is another cool weapon to do a playthrough with. The missile launcher does svck, fires to slowly and if an enemy gets to close you have to switch weapons or risk killing yourself or crippling a few limbs.

And yes.....the Fatman svcks. It's cool to mess around with, not practical but still a fun gun.

Melee and Unarmed in F3 were utterly weak and useless. I used melee weapons in the beginning because I didn't want to waste ammo on radroaches and molerats when there were raiders needing to be shot.

Not to go off topic but I would say most of these issues were corrected with New Vegas.

 Unarmed is unbelievably overpowered in FO3, if you know how to build the character and take the right perks. In fact, it is practically cheating if you take Paralyzing Palm and use it. Overlords, Reavers and Albinos, become no problem at all.

Melee, also, has some very powerful weapons available to it and benefits greatly from the right character build. Pyro + the Shish is especially rewarding.

Energy weapons are also pretty useless. I've done one playthrough with them. The gatling laser and gauss rifle are really the only good ones.

A3-21s Plasma Rifle is probably the best all around weapon in the game, and you could do the entire game with it alone, carrying nothing else, and kick everything's butt with no problems. Maybe you never found it? The gatling laser is a Big Gun, btw and I've played several EW characters very successfully. Perhaps one character wasn't enough for you to make a proper assessment.

Junk Metal Blade from FWE

To craft it you need a power fist, lawnmower blade, hammer, and a whet stone. While it has power and range ( it is as large as an anime sword ), I despise the clunky look of it and I think it should push its victims away more.

Any handgun weaker than a .44 mag becomes obsolete almost imediately so I tend not to use them after the very beginning of the game. H2H and Melee weapons are kind of a turn off because I don't generally like getting that close to enemies. My inherent fighting style is more as a sharpshooter or sniper. Having said that I don't generaly care for shotguns or mini-guns either. Missile launchers are good if you aim at your enemy's feet (so you don't miss if they move) and fatmans are just so fun to use against groups of unsuspecting enclave soldiers but the weight of either is just too much to be worth it to me because I generaly prefer low-strength builds so no big guns. The only energy weapons that really hold up to small guns are A3-21's and the gauss rifle. The gauss rifle can't be repaired to full strength (and I don't like to cheat) so A3-21's is the only consistantly awsome energy weapon. I don't see the point in investing points to a skill for a single weapon and it's pretty much on the same level as Lincolns Repeater anyway so I don't use energy weapons. On that note I don't use alien weapons either because the ammo is limited.

On a side note, with my current character I'm trying to only use rifles so I'm not allowing the use of any full auto weapons.

I never use the gatling laser because i cant [censored] find one.

I dont usually use conventional firearms either, i like energy weaps, i dont know why, i guess its Call of Duty and GTA's fault. Nothin but pieces of lead flying everywhere. But i do use the hunting rifle some, mainly because its just fun to, well, hunt with it. And i love the fat man and all explosives, i never upgrade the skill though, mainly because there usless in combat... and i use them to blow [censored] up when im bored. :gun:

Chinese Pistol (least favorite handgun), .32 Revolver (another least favorite handgun), and Fat-Man (I'm not very accurate without using V.A.T.S. and stopped using it after killing every Super Mutant Behemoth).
