a Demo is a MUST in my opinion, it's a pity not many people do all they can to find out if a game is really good before they buy it. The general lack of demos is probably a cause and at the same time a result of this. Noone expects a demo by default, so we're used to buy games we haven't at all tested, and when a developer says they're not making a demo noone really complains. But a demo is nothing else than a TV ad, except much more effective: If your game IS good, a demo WILL make people buy it.
Seeing how EA talks big about Crysis 2 (90 percent ratings announcement^^) I conclude that not providing a demo is a misguided decision. Crysis is relatively new to console gamers (important market), I wouldn't count on every MW2 and BFBC2 player to trust Crytek's reputation or reviews enough to risk 60 bucks, a demo is the solution.
