Assuming I'm still in Florida and still going to school when a nuclear holocaust occurs, I will survive like this in real life:
Hopefully, I'll be at my school when it begins. I'll quickly move to a bathroom, or one of the first floor classes as those will be the best protected. The roof could easily come off on the top floor. The bathrooms, well, they're small which means that they might be able to support more. After it ends, I'll exit my hiding(survival) spot and try to find some other students to see if any of my friends have survived. I'll eventually form a group. I'll include teachers in it as ehy have knowledge of many different things. Will not include failures and morons, or people I hate in the group as they'll get on my nerves and consume all of the food. So, after they are kicked out of the school, we'll scavenge the school for food and equipment. Most useful places to find such things would be the cafeteria, vending machines, and, there is a defibrilator in the school that can be put to some use. Weapons might have to be fashioned out of school supplies, loose building materials; or they can be scavenged from police officers that happened to be in the school for security reasons. THe JROTC room is full of old WWII rifles from the Springfield Armory; they're full of cement, but that can easily be taken out. The regular school security has walkie talkies which would come in handy in a number of situations. After supplies are secured, it will be time to look at the outside world. Assuming we haven't killed the aforementioned annoyances or shunned them completely, they can be allowed to wander outside of the school to see what the terrain looks like. They will be paid in food for their services, but will be quarantined in a seperate area due to risk of spreading radiation poisoning. If it is safe outside, a group will move out with a walkie talkie and rations to explore the area and look for a new place to move to. Later on, everyone else will move along. Or, two seperate centers of civilization will be set up. The ultimate goal would be to move to the North though to Washington D.C.. Not to recreate Fallout 3, but to preserve history if its guardians are gone. Like, if the people of D.C. are dead, the different pieces of U.S. history will need protecting. Now, if it is not safe outside of the school, then bad things will obviously happen. Food will run short and chaos could break out which either may cause a schism or keep everyone together trying to decide on the next course of action. If it gets extremely bad, cannibalism may become an option. Humans will have to be bred as livestock. But, there is one last option. Assuming all cars are destroyed on the outside, but the overall radiation isn't that effective so it is only dangerous if walking or something, then vehicles could be fashioned from existing materials in the school. Assuming the engineering department isn't wiped out, the elevator that was put in in the 70s could be removed and have wheels added onto it to get it to roll. Oars will need to be attached and maybe caravans can be made from other materials to have a great migration. I'd have to lead this though as others are too stupid, or are poor leaders.
Can't wait.
