White Textures of Doom

Recently I ran into this bug:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/Rowan101/ODD%20OCCURANCES/ScreenShot115.jpg

As you can see from the screenie, not all items are affected. But, yes, NPC's also have missing textures - but not all of them. Mostly shirts but some pants and other clothes as well. Oddly, it seems to be mostly the ear textures that are missing, but there are plenty of hair textures as well. I'm currently running morrowind on my old Windows xp system if that makes any difference.

A new game will still show the error.

When I uncheck those two mods, the error goes away and I'm left with the vanilla meshes and textures.

Please note that I experienced this error before I upgraded to the latest versions of these mods thinking it would fix the problem...

Multiple manual installs did not fix the problem. I extracted to a temporary folder, and then dragged icons, textures, meshes, etc... directly into the data files folder. I unchecked the esp and cleaned the save using wrye mash. I then re-checked the esp and used TEStool. Loaded the game, and still had the error - same with a new game.

I loaded better clothes in the construction set and most of the clothes point to a mesh folder called c when they should be pointing to BC (there is no folder called c in the newest better clothes. I deleted all of the clothing meshes in that that folder, but to no avail.

Does anyone recognize this problem?

It looks like a texture error, not a mesh error. I know you said you've reinstalled the mod several times, but are you absolutely sure you have the textures in the right place? The path should be Data Files\Textures\BC. I can't really help you with Better Heads as I don't have it, but again, I'd check that all the textures are installed correctly.

If you've checked and they're in the right place, all I can suggest is copying all the textures in the 'BC' folder and pasting them into the main Textures folder. That sometimes works if MW can't look inside the subfolders for some reason.

Spirited Treasure mentioned something on another forum pertaining to gems which looked like this. If there are texture files (.dds, .bmp, .tga) in the main Texture folder that are assigned to these meshes they will override any mod-added textures in subfolders. The game apparently looks in the main textures folder first, regardless of the path designated. I don't know this is true or even the case with your issue, but I'd check and see if there are clothing and head textures in the main textures folder. Unless you've already used a replacer, there shouldn't be, because by default the game extracts these from the BSA.

So, copying all the better clothes textures to the main textures folder (outside subfolders) actually did work. However, when I did the same with better heads, I got no results. I will look and see if there are any hair textures in that folder and delete em. Thanks for the help guys (or girls as the case may be). :)
