Who actually wanted Athletics and Acrobatics?

Post » Thu Jul 07, 2011 1:07 pm

Wouldn't you rather feel like a part of the world you're playing in, instead of feeling like some kid who found a cheat code that lets you outrun everything? The previous ES games were classic, but it doesn't mean nothing about them was bad. Let's keep the stupid aspects out of Skyrim.

Also, theres freaking MAGIC in these games. That is "easy mode" in of itself.

There's nothing stupid about them, the ability to jump really high and run really fast is absolutely lore friendly. Removing features that add diversity, now thats a stupid aspect.

I dont actually pay attention into athletics and acrobatics..
I dont care if skyrim has same speed on every race..
If you have 100 athletics and 100 acrobatics plus speed enchanting items..
The player character just moves too fast.. unrealistic...

*sigh*

This is a fantasy game. If I want my character to be inhumanly fast, I should be able to make them inhumanly fast. Just as others like to make their characters inhumanly strong, or inhumanly magical.

Just because YOU don't want your character running fast doesn't mean everyone should be forced to run at a normal speed. I don't like my character using magic at all. Does that mean nobody else should be allowed to use magic? Think about it.

I think they could have been combined, but yes, I wanted them.

I would like for them to be in some skill form. At this point, I'm sincerely hoping that they'll be in a combined skill in the "thief class" thing. I can't really see how it would make much sense to completely take out the ability to add perks for running speed or jumping or some kind of interesting maneuvers in the game, if you get what I mean.

Someone let me know though if they do indeed confirm that acrobatics and athletics don't manifest themselves in the game at all.

It is very disapointing now that they are gone... I just hope the new speed by armor system will not be too bad.
Edit: Hopefully Perks might help too.

While they were near pointless skills(and have probably been replaced with a solid reasonable jump height and run speed) some people will still argue on taking them out just because they had little effect. i actually argued the fact that there's no need for these skills in oblivion(especially not separate). but im not going to say they werent liked by someone.

I disliked the super fast running because it made horses obsolete. However I liked being able to jump really far, I have dreams like that all the time, where I can jump so far it's almost like I'm flying. That said though, I think both of them were overdone (in Oblivion) to the point where it imbalanced the game and I'm glad they're dialing these things back to make combat more of a challenge

Not me, since leveling them was always grindy and tedious as hell. That said, I sure as hell did want variable character speed, just determined some other way.

Well, firstly, you could move ridiculously fast in Oblivion while running... It was sort of preposterous.... But, all they really did is act as level boosters... I really don't care that they're removed... Plus we may see some perks related to these areas.

Glad they are gone to an extent. At the end of they day they said each races speed will be the same (in regards to the race differences) they said nothing about altering it.

Nothing inhuman but playing an "acrobat" appeals to me. Not that we could be acrobats in previous games but I want this come back when they can really suffice it. Skyrim could have been a good game for climbing skill to return too. Maybe in next-gen.

They were always to of my Major Skills in Morrowind and Oblivion. I'm not amused by their absence.

I don't know why you call them "cheat/abuse friendly crap". Yes, you could level up quickly with it, but that could make the game harder. The best way to cheat in Oblivion is by choosing skills you don't use and ones that level slowly as your major skills and then use other the stuff you normally would. I once finished the MQ at level 3 even though my Light Armor, Blade, Sneak, Conjuration and Destruction were quite high, as if I was really a level ~15. That's what I call cheating.

I just hope that without acrobatics they'll have a jump spell again. Jumping high is fun.

I agree. Now would be a really good time for them to try to bring that back to at least some degree. I think climbing trees to snipe people would be fun as hell. Not sure how happy the birds nesting in them would be with it, though.

Oh well, you never know. I'm sure Bethesda has at least made a small attempt at putting SOME form of climbing in the game. Just trying to add some optimism to this topic!

I guess Orcs will be as fast as Kajiits... weird. I'm hoping we get some good ways of altering our jump height and movement speed without the use of magic as in a spell or enchanted equipment, maybe some perks that will affect them somehow. Like I said, it's going to feel weird that everyone moves at the same speed or jumps the same height.

I liked them, especially acrobtics.

Te argument about speed is stupid "its inhuman to run that fast"

*insert picture of argonian shooting fireballs and lightning*

The argument dosent work.
