voice your opinions, who do you think won the war the americans? or the chinese?
i personally think the americans won, just because of the fact that we still have a (sort of...) a stable government (the enclave, their evil IMO but their our government) and we have heard NOTHING of what happened to the chinese after the war abruptly ended.

Anyone thinking they "won" the war in a hellish age of man is too warped in their mind from propaganda to begin with.

Obviously noone, a full-out nuclear attack always would be a lose-lose.

1. The Enclave are a government that governs nothing. They have pretty much no territory.

2. Define "win".

3. Noone wins in M.A.D.

Nobody wins.

Winning means you've (presumably) got something to build on, suffered less casualties than your opponent, and/or had your affairs settled with your opponent (either something akin to "Don't do that again!" in the case Desert Storm, or the annexation of your opponent's territory.)

Obviously, none of this happened in FO3. Therefore, nobody won.

I suppose you could say the US won, because the Enclave is still around, but we don't know what's happening in China to say that they won or we won really. So like it's been said. Neither side won.

Neither won. If you've ever seen the movie WarGames, the main antagonist sums up things quite perfectly in regards to global thermonuclear war.

The Americans won because they are still around. China would not have survived the war. not only would America target them the USSR would have targeted China as well. Both China and USSR were and are still communist in the fallout universe. They have never loved one another. They fought one another in many border disputes during the cold war. They hated one another back before Russia or China became communist. With 2 super powers using most if not all the nuclear arsenals against them I can't see how China would ever come back. America won but I agree what did they really get out of it? Not much.

PS. I know China is still communist in are world as well.

That doesn't matter if all sides have enough nukes to destroy the whole world several times over. The USSR would probably be busy nuking Europe as well, so their nuclear arsenal is probably split.

I also imagine whatever Chinese equivalent of the Enclave was around had contingency plans in the event of nuclear armageddon as well.

Well if you go off like that, then why wouldn't Russia nuke the US as well or vise versa? And I don't think Russia or China hated one another before the Russian Revolution, back in 1917 (Lenin, Bolshevik's, etc). Both were allies before Russia became Communist, and even before WW2 started, when Japan was just attacking China, Russia even aided China with some pilots and fighters. It wasn't until the 60s, that China and Russia had major issues with border skirmishes. Also, if I remember correctly, it was 1956 that the USSR and China began to split apart ideologically. The Fallout Timeline splits two or three years before 1956, so during the early 50s, China and the USSR were both fairly friendly with one another.



When at the beginning of the original Fallout games, the intro says that the ENTIRE world was enveloped in nuclear fire. It's kinda hard to say either side one.

I believe main reason Fallout canon doesn't state the winner, is that it's pretty obvious for anyone who can understand atom's power and it's consequences that a full-out nuclear war can't be won by neither side. Whole world is burnt down, all the governments fall apart eventually, even if by any chance some survived. One side launches nukes, other side notices that and launches their. Both sides go boom taking down with them even the countries that are not involved, decimating their population with huge fallout clouds. Once again I'll refer to the "On the Beach" book/movies. IMHO it's pretty well shown there, just with no vaults.

You're making an awful lot of assumptions with little information. A history of conflict doesn't always result in a future full of conflict, there are some examples today of great national relationships despite many bitter conflicts. France and Germany, the UK and the US, etc.

The only thing we know about the USSR is that some of their Consular staff took refuge in Vault 13.

I am not American I am Canadian, reading all your points and they are good points. I see that I did make some general assumptions, but I still say America won but it's like they won but it cost them everything. Besides in my opinion China started the Great war. During the Sino-American War (2066-2077) China started to get their butts kicked with the American power armour coming into the war. In the fallout world there is evidence that America had taken back Alaska and was invading China. China became desperate and turned to Nuclear weapons. I know it does not really matter who started it I am just putting that out there.

That I think is a reasonable conclusion based on what we do know.

However it doesnt discount some enclave-like organisation still existing in China. Its a big place with lots of possibilities for continuity of government projects.

I still don't see the obsession with defining a 'winner'. If you lived in that kind of world, struggling to eat daily, struggling not to die from disease and radiation and murderers on a daily basis, would you really worry about who 'won' the war that caused your living conditions to begin with? If you did, would you honestly think you won?

'Gee, I drink water that sets off a Geiger counter, I've seen people eat human flesh and I'm snacking on two hundred year old potato chips. Everything is ruined and dusty and I feel like I'm dying just waking up in the morning. I'm sure glad we won that war!'

You should all be aware that if America had time to be paranoid and prepare for a Nuclear War, nearly every single western and communist nation would have done the same thing. The British Commonwealth would have their own version of the vault, so would Russia and China.

Besides, as far as anyone knows outside of the Fallout games, nobody won. There's no way to measure the immense damage done to anyone in the world.

For all we know, America, China and Russia could have felt the entire brunt of it and the people in Fiji are probably sitting around drinking cocktails while you scavenge around the wastes for burnt dirty crackers.

Until the release authentic lore about other people in the world, I doubt anyone can know much about anything.

P.S Fallout: Down Under. <3 Killeroo's, Monster Spiders and Gigantic Black Snakes, sounds fun.
