Yeah, I tried exactly twice before I decided he just wasn't worth the aggravation lol. He's so eager to run into a horde of daedra and get his ass killed, not my fault when he gets butchered. XD

I often am a high level when I try to rescue him, so he's pretty much guaranteed to die... doesn't help that he charges headfirst into groups of Xivilai without waiting for me! :banghead:

My decrepit avatar handled this situation with aplomb. Being this isn't the spoiler section I won't recount his adventures in detail. Let's just say that by the time he encountered the individual in question he was both a savvy Gate closer and a keen judge of humanoid frailty**. Taking the latter into account he devised a rescue strategy that all but guaranteed success.

**Okay. This might be a little too hifalutin considering my avatar's mental decrepitude. But he did have Farwil pegged.

Farwil is definitely not tactful (ie he's a jerk). Perhaps that's why most of his fellow "knights" were killed.

Yes, there is a trick to save Farwil (and as I recall one other "knight") but since this is not the spoiler section I shouldn't mention it here. But if you want to be spoiled, you can follow the following link:

It's what I pretty much always do with that quest.

I have in the past been able to save him in a couple of ways - 1) - when my character was powerful enough to slaughter everything quickly while keeping the knights well buffed with shield and restore health spells, and 2) bypassing the encounter with him and clearing the map first, only then going back for him.

My problem with most escort quests is that I tend to operate using stealth + range to soften up or reduce the numbers of foes I have to face in melee. Escorts always seem to just rush in and are at risk of friendly fire from me if they step in front of a spell or poisoned arrow at the wrong time.

Whenever there is an option of "wait here" or me running past them and clearing the area first before escorting them through an empty dungeon, I will choose that option.

I've been on the other side of this, creating a mod, and it's a @#$% of a job to try and build a character to rescue who's not suicidal. Even someone who has a "stay back and use ranged spells" AI will follow enemies into the lava.

Well I see it that his bravado is what gets him killed, so although my character tries their hardest, if he dies at least he died fighting, and I tried to do good against the inevitable.

Yeah, Farwil is quite the numbskull. One time we didn't even make it to to the sigil tower before he decided to end it all and jumped off the bridge. Turns out that Dark Elf fire resistance doesn't help much when they go for a swim in lava. Even when he does make it into the tower, it's bloody hard to keep his dumb butt alive. Apparently, losing most of his Thorny buddies didn't teach him not to recklessly charge in to fight a bunch of bloodthirsty hellspawn. I imagine his thought process (if he even has one) goes something like this:

"Hmm, there's a bunch of Daedra up ahead. Should I let the Hero of Kvatch deal with this and learn from watching? No, that's ridiculous! I'll just charge in recklessly like my recently deceased friends. That can't possibly end badly for me."

I keep wondering if I might be doing Cheydinhal a favor if I just step back and let Farwil get himself killed. Between the Orum Gang, a corrupt guard captain, and a certain group of individuals who we probably shouldn't talk about, Cheydinhal has enough problems. I don't even want to think about what it would be like with Farwil in charge.

Baurus in the Elven Gardens sewers is my favorite, "REMEMBER THE EMPEROR!" and "FOR THE DRAGON FIRES!" when he gets gung-ho, but "STICK TOGETHER!" while he's disobeying his own command is the silliest.

"Save often, the planes of Oblivion are a dangerous realm" - where you really need to save often is after closing the first Oblivion gate, unless you're determined to get into the Dark Brotherhood. Savlian Matius, Berich Inian, and all the other Kvatch guards plus the Imperial Legion soldiers have a bad habit of crossing the line of fire, even when I change to sword and use no ranged spells I've actually had idiots jump in between me and the demon I'm swinging a sword at just in time to catch it in the neck. All them guys would fit right in to the USMC.

When Snape did that one, they were still just standing there where they met and Farwil spotted a daedra off in the distance. He took off running and triggered a landslide which promptly killed him. Even nature is against that idiot.

He once ran off the end of the bridge after a Dremora that had fallen in. I later just went the underside of the bridge. Skipping him entirely.
